| #1mortificatorMay 08, 2009 16:26:37 | I'm making a character for a game on the weekends and decided to go with a straight fighter. The character starts at 10th level, but the DM plans on working us up to 20th at a pretty fast pace so I'm planning out a long term build. Game rules limit me to the core three books, the first five "Completes" (Divine, Warrior, Adventurer, Arcane, Psionic), and PHBII. Using these books, I've come up with three possible character builds, but I'm looking for advice on how to tweak them before I pick which to use. NOTE Character ability scores won't be an issue due to the DM's generation system. and characters will receive more feats (one at 1st and one every even level). Build I: Push/Trip Fighter This character is centered around bull rushing and knocking down his enemies as well as a hefty dash of weapon mastery (Driving Attack is a primary part of this character). His equipment will be a spiked heavy shield and short spear. 1st: Power Attack, Combat Expertise, Shield Specialization (H) 2nd: Improved Bull Rush, Improved Shield Bash 4th: Agile shield Fighter, Weapon Focus (shortspear) 6th: Shock Trooper, Weapon Specialization (shortspear) 8th: Melee Weapon Mastery (piercing), Shield Charge 10th: Improved Trip, Shield Slam 12th: Greater Weapon Focus (shortspear), Shield Ward 14th: Driving Attack, Greater Weapon Specialization (shortspear) 16th: Combat Reflexes, Defensive Sweep 18th: Weapon Supremacy (shortspear), Hold the Line 20th: ?, ? Build II: Weapon Master/Tactics Fighter A pretty simple two-handed fighter with access to several tactics feats. His primary weapon will probably be a greatsword (or great falchion if allowed, but then I need to squeeze in Exotic WP). 1st: Power Attack, Cleave, Weapon Focus (greatsword) (H) 2nd: Improved Sunder, Combat Expertise 4th: Weapon Specialization (greatsword), Improved Bull Rush 6th: Combat Brute, Shock Trooper 8th: Melee Weapon Mastery (slashing), Greater Weapon Focus (greatsword) 10th: Power Critical, Improved Trip 12th: Greater Weapon Specialization (greatsword), Dodge 14th: Slashing Flurry, Mobility 16th: Elusive Target, Iron Will 18th: Weapon Supremacy (greatsword), Lightning Reflexes 20th: Great Cleave, Improved Critical (setting up for epic feats mostly) Build III: Defensive/AoO Fighter Based around maximizing AC as a fighter while retaining the ability to strike using attacks of opportunity. Gear will be a heavy or tower shield and a broad-bladed shortsword (Complete Adventurer). 1st: Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Endurance (H) 2nd: Combat Expertise, Shield Specialization 4th: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (broad-bladed shortsword), Iron Will 6th: Active Shield Defense, Deft Opportunist 8th: Shield Ward, Expert Tactician 10th: Karmic Strike, Hold the Line 12th: Mobility, Indomitable Soul 14th: Robilar's Gambit, Elusive Target 16th: Lightning Reflexes, Defensive Sweep 18th: Improved Combat Expertise, Improved Toughness 20th: ?, ? Thanks in advance to anyone who has some advice on any of these. |

Any defensive builds I've made that included Combat Expertise for more than just a prerequisite usually involved Deadly Defense and some form of Two-Weapon Fighting or other methods for multiple attacks (Crescent Knife, Blade Braid, Flurry of Blows, etc). |

| #5jetstrike3000May 10, 2009 10:05:03 | Karmic Strike would be good too. |
| #6carnivoreMay 10, 2009 14:00:31 | Robilars Gambit is Superior to Karmic Strike.... it requires fewer feats, and works even if they Miss :D |
| #7jopustopinMay 10, 2009 14:08:07 | Basically with that many feats, everyone is a gestalt fighter. If I were you I would just play something else. There would be a lot of nice barbarian builds with that many feats. Just call yourself a fighter in the game, but your class is barbarian. Instead of 'rage' you enter 'battle focus'. That is just simply a ton of feats, and you really don't need that many. |
