| #1flawless_pFeb 10, 2009 19:54:39 | So I'm fairly new to the game (DnD 3.5) and I am playing with some extremely experianced players. So I was hoping you guys could help me optimize my build for and evil druid/master of many forms.... I'm a human and I don't want to be a god character or have infinite combos or anything like that, I'm just looking for some good feats and/or play tips. Hopefully I didn't post anything that has already been posted but my request seems somewhat original to me so thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give. Also if it's not to much trouble I would be eternally greatful if you could help with a build for a friend of mine, he is a Half-Black Dragon Fighter... P.S. ECL is 7 |
| #28w_gremlin_dupFeb 10, 2009 20:12:11 | It's always good to include some basic information on what Books you have available to you to use. If your heading for Master of Many Forms (MoMF) Bible http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=639448 and read there... they have everything you need |
| #3jameswilliamogleFeb 10, 2009 20:35:31 | Convince your friend not to play a Half-Dragon Fighter. The half-dragon template isn't worth the level adjustment at all (there are some templates that are worth it, though). There's a LOT of ways to build a Fighter that would be competitive... Need more info on his / your vision... Master of Many Forms (MoMF) are fairly standard... here's a link. From your PrC suggestion, I'm guessing the books are at least Core+Completes. Any campaign details would be appropriate. |
| #4flawless_pFeb 10, 2009 20:46:21 | Ok so details would be a group of evil dictators that own one town together and are then forced to work for and epic level blackguard. The half dragon thing is kinda an automatic thing for his build though so any feats combos that can help him be more of a threat in an overpowered world would be most appreciated, and the momf bible is very helpful so thanks for that. The fighter is a more intelligent and coniving character, that is particularly anti-mage in combat. |
| #5unundindurFeb 11, 2009 4:06:43 | For the half-dragon you at least want the feat that lets him use his breath once every 1d4 rounds instead of once per day. That helps a bit. I think its in Races of the Dragon, but I am not sure. Apart from that, half dragons get a sizable strength modifier, so he should probably try to maximize the benefits of it. I have had players who did very well with the halfdragon template once they got some levels under their belt. As for the druid, don't have to optimize much, especially with master of many forms, its auto-nice. |
| #6carnivoreFeb 11, 2009 4:28:58 | try this: Dragon Breath[General](Races of the Dragon)Prerequisite: Half-dragon, 6 HD, breath weapon. Benefit: You can use your breath weapon every 1d4 rounds. Normal: A half-dragon's breath weapon can only be used once per day. also these help: it would be good if the 1/2 Dragon character were Large(Goliath or 1/2 Giant should also qualify), that way he could have Wings.... if you still want wings... it will take 2 feats to get flight for breath weapons: Entangling Exhalation[Breath](Races of the Dragon)Prerequisite: Dragonblood subtype, breath weapon. Benefit: When you use your breath weapon, you can choose to enmesh all creatures in its area instead of producing its normal effect. Your breath weapon deals only half its normal damage; however, any creature that takes damage from your breath weapon becomes entangled and takes an extra 1d6 points of damage, of the same energy type as normally dealt by your breath weapon, each round at the start of your turn. This effect lasts for 1d4 rounds. If your breath weapon doesn't deal energy damage, creatures damaged by the initial breath are still entangled but don't take additional damage on later rounds. Quicken Breath[Metabreath](Draconomicon)Prerequisite: Con 19, breath weapon. Benefit: Using your breath weapon is a free action. When you use this feat, add +4 to the number of rounds you must wait before using your breath weapon again.Normal: You cannot use this feat and the Maximize Breath feat on the same weapon at the same time. Shape Breath[Metabreath](Draconomicon)Prerequisite: Con 13, breath weapon, size Small or larger. Benefit: If you have a line-shaped breath weapon, you can opt to shape it into a cone. Likewise, if you have a cone-shaped breath weapon, you can shape it into a line. When you use this feat, add +1 to the number of rounds you must wait before using your breath weapon again. Normal: Without this feat, the shape of your breath weapon is fixed. Split Breath[Metabreath](Draconomicon)Prerequisite: Con 13, breath weapon, Shape Breath, size Small or larger. Benefit: Your breath weapon retains its size and shape, but splits into two areas that you aim separately. Each portion deals half the damage the breath weapon normally deals or lasts half as long as the effect normally lasts. For example, an old silver dragon that uses this feat on its cold breath weapon produces two 50-foot cones of cold that deal 8d8 points of cold damage each. If the same dragon used this feat on its paralyzing gas breath weapon, it would produce two cones of gas, each of which could paralyze a creature for 1d3+4 rounds. You can aim the split breath effects so that their areas overlap. Creatures caught in the area of overlap are struck by both weapons and are affected twice, subject to all the normal rules for stacking magical effects. When you use this feat, add +1 to the number of to you must wait before using your breath weapon again. :D |
| #7flawless_pFeb 13, 2009 23:38:16 | So just as a seperate question from the half dragon abilities what about fighter feats/PrC he's kinda leaning towards the occult slayer... any ideas on maximizing the benifits for the PcR? if not is it even worth taking? |
| #8unundindurFeb 14, 2009 0:34:22 | If you go Occult Slayer you want the Mage Slayer, Pierce Magic Protection and Pierce Magic Concealment (and thus Blind Fighting) feats. That is simple fun on a can ![]() |
| #9flawless_pFeb 14, 2009 20:30:50 | those are awesome feats i googled em up as i am not near my books atm. So yeah thanks for the ideas and hopefully i can help out in some way some day. |
| #10flawless_pMar 18, 2009 19:39:26 | Revisiting this thread I have a new question Whats the easiest way for a half dragon character to gain wings, other than being large that is. |
| #11true_shinkenMar 18, 2009 20:05:44 | Revisiting this thread I have a new question Not being a half-dragon and being a dragon disciple instead. |
| #12flawless_pMar 20, 2009 20:22:57 | Not being a half-dragon and being a dragon disciple instead. not helpful |
| #13dr_rocktopusMar 20, 2009 20:44:31 | I don't think he meant to be harsh or impolite. My impulse is to guide you towards some of the races of the dragon feats, but to also seriously suggest that you might consider the dragonborn template instead. The very simplest way, though, is to just be a large half-dragon, as they are bewinged automatically from my grasp of the RoD rules. As the RoD rules are the most recent and explicitly over-ride the older ones, this should work. As for large-size, the fanged ring from... dragon magic, to keep it in the family. I think that's the book, and I think this should function, or ye olde permanency+enlarged person, if your subtype doesn't lock you out of that. |

Well the thing here is the character has akready been created I'm looking into the wings for a friend as an after thought. |
| #15dr_rocktopusMar 23, 2009 4:11:36 | It just says if you're large, you have wings. Never says you started with them :: shrug :: |
| #16flawless_pMar 24, 2009 1:21:00 | right now he is carrying around a bunch of potions of enlarge person so he can become a large creature and grow wings.(although technically he is a dragon and therefore cannot be affected by enlarge person) |
| #17sofawallMar 24, 2009 14:50:43 | Yay houserules, letting dragons get EVEN BIGGER! |
| #18dr_rocktopusMar 24, 2009 17:37:40 | I think half-dragons are still humanoids, they just get the dragonblooded subtype now. Am I incorrect? |
| #19flawless_pMar 25, 2009 19:08:56 | I think half-dragons are still humanoids, they just get the dragonblooded subtype now. Am I incorrect? nope they are full on dragon type(unfortunately) since there is a feat he could''ve taken as a to get wings from the dragonblood subtype |
| #20dr_rocktopusMar 25, 2009 21:26:44 | :: thumb chew :: Fanged Ring, dragon magic, should do it. It's a little 3rd ed, but it's pretty reasonably priced, if a lil low. |
| #21BalthanonMar 25, 2009 23:16:11 | nope they are full on dragon type(unfortunately) since there is a feat he could''ve taken as a to get wings from the dragonblood subtype Full dragons can take any feat that has the dragonblood subtype. |
| #22dr_rocktopusMar 26, 2009 0:22:19 | Is true, but we want to avoid wasting feats on things we can buy outside of Sigil. |
| #23BalthanonMar 26, 2009 6:41:07 | Is true, but we want to avoid wasting feats on things we can buy outside of Sigil. Fanged Ring doesn't actually make you Large though, it gives you Improved Natural Attack and Improved Unarmed Strike, which leaves flight to Wings of Flying or a Phoenix Cloak. Having flight naturally also has the advantage of surviving in an anti-magic field and saving you 50,000 gold that you could be spending on something else if your build isn't feat intensive. |
| #24dr_rocktopusMar 26, 2009 6:57:32 | This is true. Can you think of a single item that does in fact enhugenate you? |
| #25sofawallMar 26, 2009 6:58:50 | Custom item of expansion? Dorje of expansion, with use psionic device? |
| #26BalthanonMar 26, 2009 16:39:34 | There's a belt that does it for 10 minutes a day in Magic Item Compendium, though it's as enlarge person. The best route is probably the dorje if you have a way of using it and it's at a decent manifester level. |
| #27flawless_pApr 13, 2009 20:19:52 | So heres a nifty little bit about his character currently maybe you guys can give me some info on what to do from here He has a Magebane Greatsword a ring of silence belt of enlarge person(houseruled to work on him) that plus his class features make him do 3d6 against divine spellcasters and 6d6 against arcane casters 6d6+14 against damn near any arcane caster of his level at least i think so, plus the vicious strike class feature so if he readies his action to wait for them to cast a spell and hits them it does double damage. |
