| #1jaronkJul 15, 2008 22:07:33 | So, for those who've missed it, the spell Love's Pain is probably the best long range kill spell out there, but it requires that someone love your target. So, what are good ways to do this? Mindrape and Programmed Amnesia come to mind, but those are high level spells. I lack Book of Erotic Fantasy, so I'm not sure if there are any in there, but has anyone else got any particularly good ideas, especially ones that don't require the target to ever come near you? | #2vangrueJul 15, 2008 22:34:00 | How about Suggestion? Just suggest that one enemy love another one. It's reasonable and not suicidal (well, mostly!). Or, Mass Suggestion for one giant love-in. :D |
| #3jaronkJul 15, 2008 22:38:29 | Suggestion makes them follow a "course of activity." I'm not sure "fall in love" really counts for that... it seems very gray at the least. Though that would be great, since Love's Pain is level 3 and so is Suggestion. JaronK |
| #4phoenix00Jul 15, 2008 23:00:50 | charm person makes npc friendly hypnotism:While the subject is fascinated by this spell, it reacts as though it were two steps more friendly in attitude. This allows you to make a single request of the affected creature (provided you can communicate with it). The request must be brief and reasonable. Even after the spell ends, the creature retains its new attitude toward you, but only with respect to that particular request. Two steps more more friendly than friendly is fanatic Fanatic means this Fanatic: Will give life to serve you Fight to the death against overwhelming odds, throw self in front of onrushing dragon ----- Your order is to treat person X as your best friend which you are completely devoted to. You love them with all your heart and will do anything for him/her. ---- Cast Love Pain on the newly fanatic. The person the fanatic loves (which you named) will now take 10d6 damage. Rinse and repeat. Then kill the new fanatic after you kill your target. |
| #5phoenix00Jul 15, 2008 23:05:15 | For example: Nation X has powerful king. Level 5 wizard hates king of nation X. Level 5 wizard captures one of the lowly servants of king of nation X. He captures her, charms her, and then hypnotizes her. He convinces her that she is in love with the king and will do anything to make the king happy. He then casts sleep on the poor servant and ties her to her bed. He then cast loves pain on the servant while she sleeps helplessly. The king takes damage (3d6 since the wizard uses a wand of loves pain which he crafted at caster level 6 due to a magic tattoo). The spell is once again cast, again, and again, and again. Till the king falls over dead. ------ A mere level 5 wizard assassinates the king with no save or sr for the king, from an unlimited distance. Now that is what I call "GOD." Brings new meaning to the song "that's the power of love" |
| #6surrealJul 15, 2008 23:33:48 | There's also Lastai's Caress (BoED) which makes the target love you if they're friendly to you. Not sure if that spell is useful for this application, though I did demonstrate it's use in the "sneaky blaster" thread on BG...![]() |
| #7jaronkJul 16, 2008 0:08:20 | Your order is to treat person X as your best friend which you are completely devoted to. You love them with all your heart and will do anything for him/her. This is the step I'm not so sure about. Can you really order someone to love someone else? I mean, obviously the fanatic would try, but I'm not sure they can just do that, you know? Lastai's Caress is on the right track, except they have to love someone other than me or I'm in real trouble. I'm not sure if using Alter Self to look like someone else and then using the spell would work. JaronK |
| #8phoenix00Jul 16, 2008 0:12:42 | This is the step I'm not so sure about. Can you really order someone to love someone else? I mean, obviously the fanatic would try, but I'm not sure they can just do that, you know? A fanatic will throw himself infront of a charging dragon, he will do anything to serve the cause of the person who gave them the order. ---- And it isn't like the servant didn't have a relationship before with the king, all you are doing is programing him/her to be totally devoted to the king. "Instead, the subject’s closest friend or dearest loved one" b Your command could be, care for the king above all other beings. That is an easily followable request you can give your fanatic, and it will be enough to trigger the spell target to who you want it to be. |
| #9jaronkJul 16, 2008 0:30:19 | A fanatic will throw himself infront of a charging dragon, he will do anything to serve the cause of the person who gave them the order. Well yeah, so he'll try. But just as he can't necessarily actually kill said dragon, I doubt he'll be able to love them. And it isn't like the servant didn't have a relationship before with the king, all you are doing is programing him/her to be totally devoted to the king. My hope is to be able to use this on anyone, without needing to get a servant in advance. Your command could be, care for the king above all other beings. That is an easily followable request you can give your fanatic, and it will be enough to trigger the spell target to who you want it to be. My worry is that the spell would actually target me in that case. After all, he loves me so much that he'll do anything. JaronK |
| #10brainpiercingJul 16, 2008 8:28:19 | Well, this is surely one application of "keeping your friends close, but your enemies closer". You only have to fall in love with them, how nice. That's like the next step of turning the other cheek. |
| #11amadithegreatJul 16, 2008 8:40:11 | Book of Vile Darkness. Mindrape. Implant: You love _Insert name_ more than anyone else. This has it's own thread even in here somewhere: BoVD kill at any range with no save or so on, what about searching next time before you post a topic? |
| #12guyrtheadamantineoneJul 16, 2008 8:49:19 | Book of Vile Darkness. He knows it, its in the OP. What he's looking for is a lower level love-inducing spell. |
| #13phaedrusxyJul 16, 2008 11:50:29 | A chance to pimp one of my favorite online comic quotes: "Love is a very powerful force. Even more so when it's focused into a coherent beam of destruction." --Black Mage of Eight Bit Theater Now... for something on topic: Surreal's suggestion combined with Charm Person should work. I also suggested the Elixer of Love in another thread on this topic. |
| #14phoenix00Jul 16, 2008 12:01:14 | My worry is that the spell would actually target me in that case. After all, he loves me so much that he'll do anything. nope after the request, the only reason the target is fanatical to you is in carrying out that one request. It is in the hypnotism description. |
| #15jaronkJul 16, 2008 14:34:16 | This has it's own thread even in here somewhere: BoVD kill at any range with no save or so on, what about searching next time before you post a topic? What about reading the OP before you post? Yes, I know about Mindrape/Love's Pain. The issue with it is that Mindrape is 9th level. Clearly, if we can get this down to a lower level (say, level 3, when Love's Pain turns up) it will be more useful. That's what this thread is about. JaronK |
| #16amadithegreatJul 16, 2008 15:54:34 | What about reading the OP before you post? I still believe that this should be discussed in the original thread, because while this is improvement to it, there is no real need for another thread. Haven't there been like, 20 different threads about how to cast higher level spells at lower level? I even believe someone found out a way to cast level 9 spells in level 1 slot, it had something to do with doubling spell slots and spending 2 lower level slots to get one higher. It's a Greater Invocation, but Devil's Whispers should work, because the targe would actually believe that it was their idea. (11th level.) |
| #17jaronkJul 16, 2008 16:02:21 | The idea here is to avoid the spell Mindrape, and instead go with something lower level. I'm trying for a nice, elegant solution, not something that involves crazy heightening tricks to cast a 9th level spell 13 level early. JaronK |
| #18awaken_D_M_golemJul 17, 2008 17:19:16 | All this talk about : Love's Pain Mindrape Programmed Amnesia Fanatics Lastai's Caress "sneaky blasting" ... (cough) Elixir of Love Devil's Whispers AND being "elegant" is making the portable MRI Brainwave machine I carry with me, light up all over the f-izzle place. It looks like Christmas, I'm telling you. |
| #19xoraxxJul 19, 2008 12:27:19 | The idea here is to avoid the spell Mindrape, and instead go with something lower level. I'm trying for a nice, elegant solution, not something that involves crazy heightening tricks to cast a 9th level spell 13 level early. I just found something nice in the Tome of Magic that might be usefull for this. All you need is a Binder partymember/cohort who can bind Malpas and have him fall under his influence. Malphas causes him to fall in love easily and devote the binder to the first person to be nice to him. So if you can have your target make nice gesture to the binder (Suggestion??) the binder will fall in love; and the stealth killing can begin. It is a bit of a workaround but it could work. |
| #20jaronkJul 20, 2008 1:40:16 | See, now that is getting somewhere. Heck, a Binder/Wizard/Anima Mage could pull the trick off by shooting himself with Love's Pain if it came to that. Disguise self as a pretty girl or a servant or something, and if he tips you or opens a door for you... game over. JaronK |
