| #1nareshJan 18, 2009 14:25:04 | I hate the idea of pure, 1 shot kill optimisation, but I would like some help with my new cleric Lv 1 cleric (human) DM has yet to 100% confirm stats, but most likely be 32 point buy: STR: 10 DEX: 10 CON: 12 INT: 12 WIS: 16 CHA: 16 I was thinking of dropping the INT to 10 and increasing CON to 14 or possible STR I plan on wearing heavy or medium armour so DEX is not a big issue I hope not to rely on magic items I have chosen the following feats: Maximise spell Divine metamagic (maximise) I thought this would be a big help, We are only allowed core or any complete books, PHB Gods only I want some help with domains, spells and weapons I don't want a mega super broken weapon... Just something flavourfull and effective can anyone help me make this character better |

It works best if you can do the cloistered cleric variant from UA to trade knowledge domain for knowledge devotion, though. I don't think maximize is a good option for DMM. Empower is cheaper and can actually produce higher numbers (both on average and overall, depending on dice rolls and what dice are being used). The two 'best' domains in the PHB, in general, (if you aren't trading for devotions), are I believe Luck and Travel. Farlanghn (or however it's spelled) being the only core god I can think of off the top of my head that offers both. Of course, in Core, you don't actually HAVE to pick a god, you can worship an 'ideal' or 'concept' as easily as a god, and just pick the domains that fit that ideal/concept. Once you get past 8 or 9 (or so), you're going to start relying on magic items more and more, no matter what you play. CoDzillas have it much easier than other classes (druids easier than clerics) on this front, by relying on spells/special abilities with long or artificially long durations to cover equipment slots. Of course, for that, you need rely on equipment to extend your buffs and help protect yourself from debuffs almost as much as other classes have to spend to equip themselves appropriately in the first place. It's not AS bad, but noone (besides a handful of esoteric builds), runs around with crap equipment in the high teens and fights effectively (or at least, not as effectively). |

I'd take quicken later, though, if you can retrain to get it around level seven. You'd get so much more worth out of having other feats (like the aforementioned law devotion). I wouldn't worry about wading into melee if I had ten strength and twelve con, though. And since you want maximize spell, I'd say you weren't concerned with it, either. |
