I am about to join a Gestalt game. I have never done this before. I start at lvl 12 and I have to be a Drow. Clerics are out of the question as they can't cast spells at the moment. Something to do with Loath(sp?) not being around. This guy's games tend to be really hard. I really like the Warlock class, but I am open to suggestions. Any 3.5 book is all right. He might be willing to let in a 3.0 book if ask nicely, lol.

Artificer//Warlock is a combo I've always wanted to try. The ability to take 10 on UMD alone is huge, and the versatility of the artificer meshes nicely with the focus of the warlock.

ps - You're about to get jumped on by some other posters.

We need more information, please read the posting guidelines. For starters, is it a specifically evil-aligned campaign, is it taking place in the Forgotten Realms, if so in the Underdark or above ground, and can you take your Level Adjustment as though it's another class so it takes up only one side of your gestalt progression? Can you buy off your level adjustment as per Unearthed Arcana, therefore no LA at the cost of 17K XP, but currently at ECL 12? "I like Warlock" is nowhere near specific enough for what type of character build you're looking for. What types of adventures will this party be going on?

Drow Clerics of Lolth currently don't have access to spells or divine abilities because Lolth is dead. There's a feat in Lost Empires of Faerun called Servant of the Fallen which would allow a Cleric of Lolth to retain their spellcasting and divine/domain abilities. You could also go Ur-Priest or play a Cleric of a different deity unhindered, though there may be RP problems with regards to the rest of the party. Note that only female Drow may be Clerics of Lolth, though a male character could be an Ur-Priest or a Cleric of a different deity.

I'll suggest at least one build, but it will really depend on what additional information you give.

The campaign is for level 14 characters, so to counteract the +2 level adjustment for being a Drow he is having us make level 12 characters.

I know we start out in Underdark, but beyond that, I have no idea. I do get the feeling that Lolth isn't dead in this game, just "missing". So, there is a chance we might rescue her. The only other thing I know, is that some aliens are involved, lol.

I was really hoping to be some sort of Warlock/Cleric hybrid. I'll take a look at the Lost Empire book. I'm not sure if that kind of build would be strong enough though. He tends to kill us off a lot. Every character I've built gets killed off within a day or two in his games. All except my diplomacy guy who is now banned. I'm open to any suggestions as my ideas have never really worked in the past. I spent 3 months building a guy once. It didn't help, lol.

As far as alignment goes, I'll have to check. I'm pretty sure he won't let us be LG or anything like that. He likes to stick with the books on some of these things, so I might have to be NE.

So, you absolutely have to play a Drow character, or you just have to play a character who can get along with the Drow? In a campaign set in a Human city, PCs don't have to be human, they can be elves or dwarves or halflings. There are plenty of underdark races that get along just fine with the drow. I would definitely recommend going with a non-drow character.

I'd say use the Shadow Creature template from Lords of Madness, along with any +0 LA base race, for a total +2 LA just like the Drow have. Note that Shadow Creatures are native to the plane of shadow, so there's no less reason for him to be in the Underdark than for him to be on the surface of the material plane. Human Shadow Creature is a good start, maybe Strongheart Halfling Shadow Creature for small size, and if favored class won't be coming into play due to it being a gestalt game.

Go Warlock 20 along side of Cloistered Cleric of Shar 5/ Shadow Adept 1/ Divine Oracle 4/ Contemplative 10. Say he's visited the Frog God's Fane from Complete Scoundrel to get Skill Focus for free to qualify for Divine Oracle. For your invocations get Devil's Sight, and always have it active. Get Heighten Spell and every few days cast a Heightened Deeper Darkness on something you wear, so that not even Daylight can overcome it since it will be a higher level spell. Not even Darkvision can see through that, and with the Shadow Creature template you'll have total concealment at all times, which means that you'll effectively be invisible to everyone, just a walking cloud of darkness. Even creatures which can see through the darkness won't be able to see through your supernatural Shadow Blend ability. Use your Eldritch Blast with either Noxious Blast or Vitriolic Blast as your primary mode of attack, use your Cleric spells for buffs and to fix things that go wrong and to get out of situations that fighting can't solve.

...Adventure for L14s, with forced +2 LA? Yikes! It will be hard.

Remember, play style trumps builds... Can you go for Eilistraee's cleric? She should be around in FR, at least.

If you want to be a cleric/warlock, you might look at Eldritch Disciple.

Books? Crusader/Cleric/RKV on one side should be quite durable.

Here's a list of ideas that should work:
psionic warrior 12/fighter 12 (bonus feats for both, psionic powers to enhance fighting ability, good BAB)
ninja 12/rogue 12 (sneak attack & suprise attack in one, good skills, special abilities)
Rogue 12/Warlock 12 (sneak-attack from invisible, gain special abilities)
Marshal 12/dragon shaman 12 (holy aura's batman)

sorcerer-rogue
fighter-transmutation wizard
psion-wizard (int synergy)

There's so much you can do with gestalt its almost not funny (but seriously very very fun). I've been wanting to run more gestalt campaigns lately, but I can never seem to get past making a half dozen or so characters before I give up on the idea entirely.

one of my favorite ideas though, which won't work with your restrictions
cleric/psionic warrior (wisdom is your buddy, you get bonus feats, and none of your spells/psionic powers are violated by your armor, totally worth it).
