| #1dumorimasoddaaAug 09, 2010 10:52:04 | I have just killed off my troll barb/fighter (not the best build but was fun) at the end of the campine but every one want to carry on into epic I'm up for this but now I need to make a new gestalt PC at lvl 25. I've rolled all 18s so I'm here as I don't want to waste this roll. We don't need a new tank/melee char as we have 2 already. I was pondering either some stealthy/shadow forced char using shade and such. I like the idea of a doppelgänger/changeling shade and making a disguise mastery assassin maybe adding the use of shadow magic. The problem is I have 50lvls to pick. so far unless I need the stats chageling and cabinet trickster seams a better optin only costing 5 lvls not the 10 the LA from doppelgänger would. I was also pondering atemepting an archerbuild. Going pisonics and gish if possible. Warmage seams a good arcane class for a purely damaged based char we have a utillity casters already. Any ideas? |

Druid 10/Wizard 10/Ur'Priest 10/Mystic Theurge 10/Rogue 10 Unless I'm an idiot (and I know I am) that's pretty much full casting in everything you could ever want to do. I know it's not stealthy, but with that many spells and choices, you can find something for sneaking. I threw in the Rogue 10 at the end because it's sneaky, but frankly you can do whatever you want with those 10 levels and still be amazingly overpowered just from the spellcasting. The character back story would read like nothing else on Earth though... I guess I've just always wanted to play something that ridiculous and felt the need to post it considering this is the first thread I've seen that would allow it to come into being under its rules . |

| #4Maat_MonsAug 09, 2010 12:16:18 | Don't go warmage. If you want to focus on damage, kineticist is a better choice. Using energy current, you can spend 25 power points once per combat to deal 25d6 damage every round of combat. Using solicit psicrystal, you can keep 2 of these active at a time. Using improved overchannel (Complete Psionic 157), you can spend 50 power points once per combat to deal 50d6 damage every round of combat. Actually, you don't need to play a kineticist. You can buy knowledge of that power for a little over 25,000 gp. To be well rounded in the damage dealing department, you might want a couple of other kineticist powers, which you can also buy knowledge of easily. You can just play whatever kind of psion you like. Here's a fun alternate class feature for telepath, from The Mind's Eye: Telepathic Communication Combine that with the mindsight feat (Lords of Madness 126) and you can detect the location of all non-mindless creatures within 125 feet. You can get about the same thing with a level of mindbender (Complete Arcane). Here's an alternate class feature (from the same article) for seer that could be fun, if your DM allows variant chaining: Psychic Knowledge A bard can normally trade bardic music for bardic knack (Player's Handbook II 35), which lets him use half his bard level in place of his skill ranks when making any skill check. The limitation is that he can only use the ability on a “trained only” skill if he can make trained checks in it. The feat jack of all trades (Complete Adventurer 110) lets you make trained checks in all skills. If your DM lets you trade your first level bonus feat for bardic music and then turn around and trade the bardic music for bardic knack, you can effectively have 13 ranks in every skill that exists, including every craft, knowledge, and profession. This would be great for that “disguise master” idea. |
| #5dumorimasoddaaAug 09, 2010 18:33:49 | I was pondering taking changeling/shade as my base. leaving me 21 lvls to play with gestalt. One top of that going factotum(sp)/swashbuckler3 then taking cabinet trickster 5 and then the mindspy and warshaper adding a martal class plus some rouge lvls to gain a good sneak attack and range of skills. The decision of doppelgänger vs changeling is if cabinet trickster adds more value or not. Edit: Another idea as meantion is to mix soul bow and arcane archer in some form. With my ability to ignore a chunk of the negatives of a M.A.D high starting ranks it should be doable. As I've said I'm currently in a party that's wide open for any type of char. My edgeing to ward warmage as the arcane class is the specialist versatility it gives me in damaging spells. The lack of a spell book and spotanious casting is also a plus along with the ignoring of light armour/medium (half weight or mithral comes in handy there) but I've yet to look at weather I can actuality pull of a soulbow/arcane archer I'm also unsure as what class to use as the second base class along with mindblade while warmage could be taken there it makes more sense to take it when I can only take a base class such as when raising soulbow. Fighter or maybe ranger seams a good idea was we are using fractional BAB and saves. Also been concidering really going jack of all trades with factotum and chameleon adding warshaper as 5ft extar reach and fast healing 2 are good plus it will up my BAB. On top of that add swashbulker 3 for adding int to damage as IIRC natural weapons are finesseable. that leaves me with 1 free lvl each side. Fighter could help but my BAB is already high-enough for 4 attacks around wiyh out them and feat wise I should be ok. Any ideas for a 1-2 lvl dip classes? I think evasion might be a good ability to get permanently I'm sure thats a good chunk of good dips to take but seeing as I can just emulate them as needed only really good ones will get taken. The fighter feats might be my best bet. Edit once more: been looking at community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... is the use of resvere feats really doable if so this build will be quite awesome more so if I use a chameleon bonus feat for one of them pickable spell at will or what ever else I might need. |

| #7Johnny_May_HymnAug 12, 2010 5:14:55 | if u like the warmage, take rainbow servant, to add all cleric spells to the known spell list, and a dip into prestige palladin, for sword of the arcane order, to add all wizard/sor spells known, this is all still spontanious, so... maybe factotum on the other side, or Binder for interesting abilities and some really great endless summoning or if u skip the prc palladin and squeeze in 2 levels of prc ranger(pretty sure it's 2 levels),(this would require early entry into rainbow servant,) maybe warmageX, rainbow servant10, prc Ranger2,warmageX //DruidX, Planar Shepherd10, DruidX choose a plain like shavarath for example, most spells spontanious, wildshape into outsiders, what else do you want? edit: have you looked at the Sharn? more broken Gestalt stuff here brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.p... |

Dragon Magazine stuff should fly. I might have a problem getting hold of the back-issues though. The PC group ranges a bit but our tank and the casters are quite heavily optimised for a game that had to start at around 5th lvl I know some builds just don't fly well in play but if you can play them at lvl X or more then they kick ass. Apparently I can't count/slash read the max lvl inc LA is 30 not 25. As for play style I have suddenly fallen in love with the idea of a doppelgänger warshaper maybe using factotum and chameleon to add versatility. As far as I can tell even with the one or two players also rebuilding PCs there isn't really a weakness in the group. We lack on melee a bit but then we have one knight optimised to hell and a good few nukers. This build idea would also plug the only hole we really had and that was interaction with NPCs and such we realised we enjoyed it as a group after we had committed to kick down the door PCs. |
