| #4nightfallenApr 15, 2008 21:14:56 | what race? Any book, srry for that. And as for race and all that, I dont see how that effects the items I CAN get at level 3 with only 2700gp. All that I would have Heavy+ weight and with my DM and caimpain, both my war pony's would die like ~snaps fingers~ that. I like that guard dog idea. I'll tryt an got some equiptment. But you got any idea's for enchanted item's, like something to improve DEX or CON? |

Anything that improves your stats will be out of your price range, a healing belt and anything to raise your HP or AC ring of protection might be an idea, if you're going melee get a buckler. |

But you got any idea's for enchanted item's, like something to improve DEX or CON? when choosing items for a character .... there are many factors: what is the purpose of the character? ....... this determines whether you will get Heavy or light armor, weapons, etc... it also affects choices like race(some are better than others for specific roles) if you actually take the time to see how much the items i listed Weigh .... you will find that they dont weigh very much and are not a burden for you or your pack animals ..... also notice this: Carrying Capacity: A light load for a warpony is up to 100 pounds; a medium load, 101–200 pounds; and a heavy load, 201–300 pounds. A warpony can drag 1,500 pounds. the Magic Item Compendium has many cheap magic items that are useful, but at this level mundane items are far more cost effective lets look at your stats at this level .... given the Build that i made for you: Gray Elf (monster manual 1) Rogue 3 23 HP(using your HP base 26 - 3 from Con reduction) +7 Initiative(+5 dex +2 Quick reconoiter) 30' speed AC 18 (10 base + 4 Dex +4 Armor) BAB +2 Full Attack +8 Rapier 1d6+2(18-20/x2) or +7 Shortbow 1d6(20/x3) 14 STR (16-2 racial) 20 DEX (18+2 racial) 15 CON (17-2 racial) 19 INT (17+2 Racial) 15 WIS (15 base) 15 CHA (15 Base) Feats: Weapon Finnesse Quick Reconoiter total Skill points = 72 ,max ranks 6 suggested skills: 5 ranks Balance (Dex) 5 ranks Bluff (Cha) 5 ranks Climb (Str) 6 ranks Disable Device (Int) 6 ranks Hide (Dex 1 rank Knowledge (local) (Int) 6 ranks Listen (Wis) 6 ranks Move Silently (Dex) 6 ranks Open Lock (Dex) 1 rank Perform (Cha) 1 rank Profession(locksmith) (Wis) 6 ranks Search (Int) 1 ranks Sleight of Hand (Dex) 6 ranks Spot (Wis) 5 ranks Tumble (Dex) 6 ranks Use Magic Device (Cha) at this level, you are not going to be a POWERHOUSE... you should be a Finnesse Character with many skills and great stealth.... for combat ... stay away from Melee, use ranged attacks(arrows @ Long Range, Splash Weapons @ Short range).... use your animals Intelligently and both they and you will survive...THINK ..... also learn how and When to RUN AWAY look at this to see How to play a rogue: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=529135 :D |
| #7pivotalApr 16, 2008 6:39:07 | if youre open for race suggestions your really cant do better then whisper gnome from races of stone. Amazing stealth abilities, you can have a total of 20 dex which would net you a AC of 20 with a chainshirt + the small size of the gnome. Theyre like awesome halflings :p And the silence as a spell like ability can save your life against casters who will have a limited spell selection while close to you. But yeah, at that low level go for a crossbow or something similar. A rapier and weapon finesse is also good times. Any good rogue should also have two weapon fighting so starting with a rapier and a short sword along with weapon finesse/two weapon fighting should make you effective and you shouldnt die easily if you play smart. You should have decent hit points but you dont want to get hit heavy and bring som potions if you dont have a healer or if the healer is bad. Also, if I remember correctly a ring of the darkhidden costs only 2000gp in magic item compendium. It makes you invisible to darkvision so it can be pretty awesome in the right campaign Other very good cheap items is healing belt, ring of protection, though mundane stuff like masterwork weapons, guard dogs and so on is very nice. You can also get some hidden weapons and such from complete scoundrel. Very nice to have as they can catch the opponent flatfooted on AoO's. |
| #8jtcabanApr 16, 2008 8:55:54 | For basic equipment on a lvl 3 rogue, you have plenty to do a lot of roguish damage. You can't go wrong with some: smoke bombs - 20 gold - .5 lbs (very handy for tactical retreat) fry bombs - 3d6 fire over 5ft + 1d6 fire over another 5ft - 110g - .5lbs worth every shilling. small mirrors - 4g good for looking without getting shot at. Finally...the most underrated item in your kit. a blanket - cheap. We have used a blanket in so many ways, it would make Macguyver crap his pants. Throw it on undead for an instant flammable coating. Spike it over a hole to create a quick trap. Tear it up to mark your way out of a tricky cave. It's truly a rogue wonder tool. The best thing you can do as a rogue is work your mind, not your weapons. Show your worth when it comes to trading in the loot. Do some wheeling and dealing with local nobles to get some extra help, then loot them when they inevitably die. Ah red shirts...my favorite AC bonus. |
| #9jameswilliamogleApr 16, 2008 9:07:04 | All this equipment (and its really a great list), and no mention of Masterwork Thieve's Tools? Man... |
| #10nightfallenApr 16, 2008 9:20:18 | lol, ok. O and I have made a minor change to my character. Can you look at him for me please? Renizar's Stats Human Rogue 1/Swashbucket 2 16 STR 18 DEX 17 CON 17 INT 15 WIS 15 CHA Feats Two-Weapon Fighting Dareing Outlaw Weapon Fitness [Swashbucket] Victers Luck (+1 luck reroles/day) Unbileavibly Luck (+2 luck reroles/day) Shaky [Flaw] Weapons Rapier And off hand Light weapon (Please help with that weapon) Thats his basic's. I am thinking of makeing him kinda like a Nimble fighter. Ever move he makes is like he is preforming a dance, I am thinking I am going to get some tricks in with the 4 points left over from the one rogue lvl. I still need equipment, maybe you could help me in these spots? |
| #11carnivoreApr 16, 2008 11:26:19 | what exactly are you looking for? do you want a Rogue or a Finnesse Fighter? are you interested In Skills or Fighting ability? how many Flaws are you allowed? look at what you have: stats: 16 STR 18 DEX 17 CON 17 INT 15 WIS 15 CHA they look great for an Archer Build.... :
Human Ranger 3 would be great, lots of Skills, Full BAB, good Hp, Good saves Gray Elf Ranger 3 would be even better, better Skills, better ranged Attacks
they could also work for a Finnesse Melee build:
Human Swashbuckler 3 .... works well Gray Elf Swashbuckler 3 ... works just as well
they also are good for plain old Rogue:
Human Rogue 2/ Ranger 1 ..... is very nice, better saves, but use the Simple Rogue Variant... thus you get 2 bonus Fighter feats, and Lose Sneak Attack bonus damage Gray Elf will be just the same, with the normal benifits
any Elf race will work... plain old high Elf will be just fine but we need to know what you are looking for All this equipment (and its really a great list), and no mention of Masterwork Thieve's Tools? Man... opps :embarrass .... you are correct ... add 100gp Thieves’ tools, masterwork 80gp Climber’s kit :D |
| #12nightfallenApr 16, 2008 12:24:06 | -_- Never mind, I come here asking for WHAT isgood to get and we go intothe character himself. I DONT WANT HELP WITH MY CHARACTER, ONLY HIS EQUIPMENT!!!!!!!!! Now that we got that settled, my dm for some reason is only alouing races from forgoten realms book. I have found out we are not aloude to use Dragon magazien or Dungeon Magazien. Im ganna ask some of my fellow campainer's because it seems here all you care about is the character, not his equipment. I mean a lvl 3 human can be equipted with anything a lvl 3 Gray elf can. So I dont see how that matters at all. I have also mentioned that ALL ANIMALS WILL DIE, my DM always finds a way to get ride of our pack mules, thats how my guy died, I was carrying most of the stuff for the party and I was the one being targeted. We lost ALL equipment on me AND the food retions I was carrying for the party. So not pack mules, NO NOTHING TO CARYY MY ITEMS!!! All I need right now is Equipment. OK, GOT IT?! And please, if you dont got the fact that all I need is equipment for my Rogue 1/Swashbucket 2 with Darring Outlaw, THEN DONT POST!!!! |
| #13gavinfoxxApr 16, 2008 12:27:24 | **this is generic info, not all of it will be applicable to you, but it should be VERY easy to figure out what isn't applicable. this is a 2wf, crit-focused build, which yours might not be!** Whisper Gnome Rogue1/Swashbuckler1/Figher1 (Going for Fighter2/Swash3/RogueX) 1)rogue telling blow, sneak attack: 1d6 2)swash-finesse (retroactive: grace +1) 3)fighter- two weapon fighting, improved buckler defense 4)rogue evasion, (retroactive: +2d6 sneak attack) 5)swash grace +1 (moves to level 2) 6)rogue- daring outlaw, penetrating strike (rogue variant), +3D6 sneak attack, +1 dodge to AC 7)fighter - open feat 8)swash insightful strike Finish with Rogue... or maybe get up to 4 fighter and then rogue if you want more feats.. some feat ideas for later in the build, or if you just want to rework things: Craven Iron Will Improved Critical - Kukri Improved two weapon fighting Combat Reflexes Vexing Flanker Sneak Attack of Opportunity (dragon version) Darkstalker Parrying Shield Staggering Strike Silencing Strike Dodge, then Titan Fighting Get a rapier and a kukri, or two kukris, some armor, maybe some kind of leather, some spare weapons (see if you can get silver and cold iron...), some bolt cutters, a crowbar, a grappling hook and rope, a small mirror, some masterwork thieves tools, some masterwork climbing tools, some smokesticks, a ranged weapon (perhaps a longbow), get some anti-poison items, there are both magical and alchemical versions, get some acid flasks, a buckler, some potions of lesser vigor, a sap, some caltrops, some kind of flash powder (there are many different versions, get one that specifically says you can use it to hide), a magnifying glass, something to cut glass, grappling hooks (and a grappling hook firing crossbow if you can), some garroting tools, a hacksaw, some wire, a metal case that is waterproof for documents, some of the strongest alcohol you can find, some oil, a small item with continual flame cast on it, a bedroll, a one person tent, a torch (even if you have other light sources, torch = fire), some cooking/eating equipment, some hygeine equipment, some kind of entrenching tool, some flint and steel and/or tindertwigs, a waterskin and rations, some arrows/ammo, a hooded lamp, preferably that can be dimmed, some changes of clothes, including disguises, some animal grease, some metal marbles, some pitons and a hammer... etc. etc. you might need a mule to carry some of this stuff, and you only want to bring the stuff that is NECESSARY on a job... |

Thanks man, I know I am going to get a Rapier and some other light weapon or maybe some other weapon I can use. And for the Rogue. Only thing I see wrong is it just doesn't fit my guy. I was ganna go swashbucket and maybe add a multi-class with the Deulist or Dread Pirate. Rogue have to lil' HP, so I am only getting one for Darring outlaw, and when I rolled it, it lowered my HP from a 36 to a 31. So I aint ganna get much more of them, maybe one more to get evation. But that's all I want of rogue, sneak attack and and some reflex save stull like evation. Anyway thanks for the help. But I'm not ganna have a horse of anything because they die fast in this campain. |
| #15gavinfoxxApr 16, 2008 12:41:06 | Okay, take a good long look at the many, many things you can do to get sneak attack. I, unlike many, care quite a bit for dual kukri/telling blow/two weapon fighting/etc. Uhm, you dont reroll your HP once you get it, man! Just see if you can take average hp... it really helps... and I dont know what kinds of items you might need, so I'm just adding stuff and adding stuff... And my build is VERY VERY swashbuckly! Hence the buckler, and the weapons upon which to swash it, and the finesse, and telling blow, and sneak attack, etc. etc. |
| #16nightfallenApr 16, 2008 12:45:57 | I know about the "dont reroll" thing. But At first I thought to quit rogue. But then I thought about sneak attack after I rolled mr 2d10 and added the staring 10. Even with a 5 (1 less the a rogue perfect health) I lost 5HP total. If I did that for much more Rogue lvl's, I wouldn't be good with my fighting. As for the build, I think I might want to know more about this, could you send me a link of some of the things I could do with a sneak attack as a swashbucket? |
| #17gavinfoxxApr 16, 2008 14:21:51 | Well Daring Outlaw (Complete Scoundrel) lets your swashbuckler level stack with your Rogue level for sneak attack. And Swashbuckler 3 gets you intelligence to damage, which, for an intelligence-focused rogue, is pretty awesome! Also, the fighter levels can help you get feats that improve your damage (where I mentioned the many feats that could help, like some of the flanking ones, the ones that add to sneak attack, the ones that let you do other stuff other than just damage on a sneak attack, etc.) And your first level should be rogue! Skill points are more important than hit points, by far!! lets say your con is 14... and all the other hit points are average. The hit points for this aren't BAD... but this character is a striker, not a defender... lvl 1 rogue, max hp: 6+2 (total: 8 usable: 8) lvl 2 swash, 5.5+2 (total: 15.5 usable: 15) lvl 3 fighter, 5.5+2 (total: 23 usable: 23) lvl 4 rogue, 3.5+2 (total: 28.5 usable: 28) lvl 5 swash, 5.5+2 (total: 36 usable: 36) lvl 6 rogue, 3.5+2 (total: 41.5 usable: 41) lvl 7 fighter, 5.5+2 (total: 49 usable: 49) lvl 8 swash, 5.5+2 (total: 56.5 usable: 56) lvl 9 rogue, 3.5+2 (total: 62 usable: 62) lvl 10 rogue, 3.5+2 (total: 67.5 usable 67) etc. and with this, at level 3, you can make two attacks as a full round action, you do weapon damage + strength bonus with the main weapon, and weapon damage + 1/2 strength bonus with the off hand weapon, you can use your dex mod to attack with light weapons, and your main weapons are likely an 18-20 crit range, and every critical hit is also a sneak attack, which adds 1d6 per hit to damage. Lets say you are human, for this, and have picked up the "Craven" feat at first level. You have a dex of 16, a strength of 10. You are using a Masterwork Rapier and a Masterwork Kukri as weapons. Your BAB is +2, and your dex gives you +3, and the masterwork gives you +1, and twf makes it -2, and the buckler makes it -1, so you are at +3/+3. Damage would normally be 1d6 for the main weapon, and then 1d4 for the off handed weapon. Now, lets say you are flanking. You are at +5/+5 to hit, and your damage is 1d6, and then 1d6+3 precision damage for the main weapon, and 1d4, 1d6+3 precision damage for the off handed weapon. Now, lets say you AREN'T flanking, but you DO crit, which is fairly easy with 18-20 range weapons. Now your damage is 2d6 + 1d6+3 precision for the main weapon, and 2d4 +1d6+3 precision for the off handed weapon. And this is at level 3! Not perfect, but certainly very swashbuckly, and very interesting... |
| #18nightfallenApr 16, 2008 17:37:24 | And your first level should be rogue! Skill points are more important than hit points, by far!! Lol, with that staitment alone, I can tell you have a far diffrent DM then I do. In his campain, you want to have about 10xlvl. Thats why I am worryed about haveing 32 while everyone else in my campain has about 35-42. Anyway, I like all the other stull, I think I'll get Craven and drop te Luck Reroll's even though I might need 'em. But my weapons, I got a main weapon with 1d6 and a off hand weapon with 1d6. Best part, my DM lets us use Swortswords as a slashing weapon too sence they can be in the real world. ^-^ Anyway, I gess it is ok with that, but I dont need much, I'd have 48 SP at level one. But really, I only need that 32 SP. I mean I have enough for what I want AND some things that give me the bonus for the ones I want. Anyway, could you give me a link for a handbook on Weapon Fitness build's and/or a link for a Swashbuckler cross-class Rogue handbook? |
| #19pfootiApr 18, 2008 22:45:19 | That sounds more like a party failure than a DM thing, frankly. If the DM is handing out fireballs, don't stand next to each other. If he's handing out lots of fireballs to 3rd-level characters, well, you're in trouble either way. If he's handing out melee-fighting, your AC should be pretty high as a dex/int character in a chain shirt, relative to level 3. Use a buckler for a while. Granted, level 1 and 2 can be especially deadly, since many characters only have 6-12 HP in that range. But still, get a healer, get someone to bog down the opposing forces, get a flanking buddy. Look in the top link on the board... "some handy links" thread. All you need is in there. |
| #20thraxiousApr 18, 2008 23:54:02 | Finally...the most underrated item in your kit. a blanket - cheap. Personally I have always found a towel to be superior to a blanket - at least when it comes to being the perfect multi-use tool. http://www.greatplay.net/uselessia/articles/uses%20for%20towel.html :D |
| #21nightfallenApr 19, 2008 0:26:35 | LMAO, people are still posting here? I've been dont with this for a while. {Edit} Also, not much room when goblins are throwing bolders down a side of the cliff and there ain't much space to move. ^^;; |
