| #1GentlemanLoserAug 26, 2014 15:34:18 | I've been stumbling around building some sort of Draconic Inspiration Bard/Paladin (using Devoted Performer), with the idea to maybe use the extra damage from DI and Battle Blessing.
Then I found Lyric Spell. And my love of Persistent Spells came clawing back.
I looked at the Lyric Thaumaturge, as at 3rd level is gives extra Sorcerer/Wizard spells. And I could grab Wraithstrike (Yeah, I'm obsessed slightly with Wraithstrike and Divine Power! It's unhealth ;) ).
Am I correct in thinking that Lyric Spell would allow me to cast a Persistent Wraithstrike at the cost of 9 (1+2+6) Bardic Music attempts?
Lyric Thaumaturge 5 also caught my my. For a single BM use, I can add a spells level as extra d6 for Sonic spells. Not worrying about trying to change other Enery Types to Sonic to use this, I saw the Sonic Weapon spell.
A level 2 Bard spell that adds 1d6 Sonic Damage to a Weapon for 1 minute / level.
Using the Lyric Thaumaturge's Sonic Might ability, that would add 2d6 extra damage, making the weapon deal 3d6. But if we increase the spell level, this would also go up.
I can't persist Sonic Weapon, as it has a range of Touch. But the metamagic feat Reach would get around that, and increase the level of the spell to 4, granting it an extra 4d6 through Sonic Might.
How does all this work with Lyric Spell? The cost in BM uses is "one, plus one additional use per level of the spell". Would I be able to use Lyric Spell at a cost of 5 (1+2+2) to cast a level 4 'Reach' Sonic Weapon? If so, then is there a limit to a Spells Level? Could I then spend 11 BM uses to use Lyric Spell to cast a level 10 Sonic Weapon spell modified by Reach and Presistent metamagics?
If so, for a total of 12 BM uses, I could have a Weapon that deals +11d6 Sonic Damage for an entire day. Maybe even throw in other Metamagic feats, up to the amount of BM uses you have.
Although very Feat intensive, there must be a way to make a Bard/Lyric Thaumatuge around this. ;) (Not sure Paladin is needed!) Unless a properly built Draconic Inspiration Bard would put that to shame and make it just not worth the effort!
Edit; Very rough build combining both Dragonfire Inspiration and Sonic Might
Silverbrow Human
Silverbrow: Dragonfire Inspiration 1 Bard: Melodic Casting 2 Bard: 3 Paladin: Devoted Performer 4 Paladin: 5 Bard: Song of the Heart (Eberron Swap) 6 Bard: Lyric Spell 7 Lyric Thaumaturge: 8 Lyric Thaumaturge: 9 Lyric Thaumaturge: Extend Spell (Spell Secret - Wraithstrike) 10 Lyric Thaumaturge: 11 Lyric Thaumaturge: 12 Sublime Chord: Arcane Disciple (For Divine Power) 13 Sublime Chord: 14 Sublime Chord: 15 Sublime Chord: Persist Spell 16 Sublime Chord: 17 Sublime Chord: 18 Sublime Chord: Power Attack 19 Sublime Chord: 20 Sublime Chord:
Not great, I'm having trouble fitting all the feats in.
In the end this gives;
Smite: +6 Damage Bardic Music: 20/Day as 15th level Bard Inspire Courage: +3/+4 (Song of the Heart) Divine Grace, etc BAB:+12
Casting; Bard: 9th Level - 3rd level spells Sublime Chord - 18th Level - 4th to 9th level spells
Cast an Extended Sonic Weapon with Sonic Might for a Level 3 Bard spell slot & 1 Bardic Music - +4d6 damage Draginfire Inspiration (before items) for +4d6 damage Divine Power Persistent Wraithstrike for 9 Bardic Music uses (leaving 11 per day for Sonic Might / Dragonfire Inspiration / Lyric Spells if in a pinch and out of slots)
I'm sure this can be improved. Sacrifice 9th levels spells for a Cloistered Cleric dip for Turn, Devotions and Planning Domain? Drop Paladin totally?
I like the idea of a street urchin, who grew up with a Religious street preacher. Learning Perform: Oration. Going on to start as a bard, working the streets preaching about the destruction of evil. Finally deciding to join a church and take up Sword for his beliefs.
When fighting evil, he preaches verses at them. His words setting his and his allies weapons aflame with holy power and the magical potency of his voice and holy words instilling his weapons with force.

I'm unsure about Lyric Spell and slots. What I got from it was it was designed to allow you to cast spells when you have no slots available (and it can only be used with spontaneous Arcane spells). As long as you knew the spell, and had enough BM uses left to power it, you could cast it.
It's not explict about being able to modify spells with Metamagic, but it does mention you can't use Silent Spell with it, which leaves the assumption all other Metamagic are fine.
Ah! Nice catch on Song of the Heart.
I'm sure I've seen a way to change what type of Dragon heritage you have without a Sorc dip as well, but can't recall with it is either!
Divine Power was just there to get the 4th attack per round. But I'm not too worried about it. Plus it would save a feat dropping Arcane Disciple.
The issue with other class dips, is that I need Bard 4 (for second Arcane) to qualify for Lyric Thaumatugre at 7th. Paladin with Devoted Poerformer gives the 5th Bardic Music required as well.
That leaves any dip either taking Paladin 2 (and losing Divine Grace), which would bring Paladin into question. Why take Pally 1 and a feat, when you can just take Bard 5? Or a dip taking the 9th level of Sublime Chord, and losing 9th level spells.
I suppose I should also look at squeezing Snowflake Wardance in as well.
Edit: Even if Lyric Spell requires you to have a slot of the level you want to cast, if you get 9th level SC spells, could you use Versatile Spellcaster to allow you to have the 10th level slot to cast a Lyric Spell Reach Persistent Sonic Weapon?
You wouldn't have to actually use the slot. So you wouldn't have to actually use Versatile Spellcaster. Just have the potential.
Maybe. |

At least, I think it could help.

Thanks!

I think I can see the disconnect we're having in Lyric Spell.
|
| #8Tempest_StormwindAug 29, 2014 16:10:15 | "and can cast".
If you don't have access to 10th level slots, you can't cast a 10th level spell (or a 4th with +6 metamagic).
If it just said "that you know", then it would work as you describe. |
| #9daedhaedAug 29, 2014 21:11:25 | does this also apply to the Talfarian Song, Metamagic Song feat combo that arguably allows you to persist things at lvl 1?

| #11GentlemanLoserAug 30, 2014 1:25:49 | Tempest, there's no punctuation. It's not just "and can cast", but "and can cast spontaneously". As apposed to prepared. That's the distinction I make. So Lyric Song can't be used on Wizard Spells.
Time to agree to disagree? |

| #13New-ShadowAug 31, 2014 11:48:51 | I also found a ritual that can help in Races of the Dragon called the Rite of Draconite Affinity, it's on Page 59, but I have no idea if this helps. |
