| #1kavilleJun 10, 2009 11:45:31 | I'm looking to play a Gish Character, whose major goal is to defeat other mages. I was thinking more on the lines of an archer, but that is not necessary. He will be starting at 10, and will be going up from there. Books allowed - Core, Completes, Locations, the monster books (Draconomicon, Lords of Madness, and the like) |
| #2lormadorJun 10, 2009 11:53:07 | How about a druid with Aberration Wildshape, Assume Supernatural Ability (to get the Beholder antimagic cone) along with some kind of big, nasty grappling animal companion? A Fleshraker, for example; or a tiger or bear if that's too swiss. Going toe to toe with your grappler in your antimagic cone will shut down a whole lot of mages. Look ma, no spells! |

It won't be perfect, but it will be effective. Fighter 1/Martial Focused Transmuter 2/Human Paragon 3/Spellsword 1/Abjurant Champion 3 If you don't need the feat, go Illumian (if races books are allowed I wasn't sure reading your description but I'm guessing no?) and get the aeshkrau word to help yer CL after Practiced Spellcaster and Mage Slayer cancel. Also reduces your need for Int a little. |

One (minor) suggestion, though, take the first level of HP first, for the extra skill points (and to make UMD a class skill for every level, so you can use druid/cleric/etc wands/etc). |

I just found a very interesting resource. A creature called a Balhannoth from MM4. 14 HD. Su Dimensional Lock in a 20-foot radius. Further, any creature grappled by it cannot cast spells, SLAs, or Supernatural abilities. Even more than that, the grappled creature's magic items are suppressed. Someone's got to be able to use that. From a discussion here. This would of course be an alternative to the Beholder Antimagic cone + grappling companion type of strategy, as the two don't mesh very well. You can pull that kind of thing off as a psionic character, also. |
