#1 Kroann Oct 05, 2013 6:15:21	Hey guys, I was wondering if the mailman build could be tweaked to work well with a wizard in place of a sorcerer? I realize that I would miss out on Arcane Fusion, and i'm not sure how well I could pull off Arcane Spellsurge.   I wanted to create a human wizard who has lots of versatility (God?) but filled the secondary role of a Blaster. I instantly thought of the mailman because I love alot of its synergy with metamagic but perhaps its best left to the sorcerer?   With that said, how would you guys go about building a Versatile Wizard who is also a good blaster? I just don't want to get to pigeon holed into blasting.   I was thinking Focused Specalist Conjuration with Abrupt Jaunt, taking the reserve fireblast feat, Bloodline of fire feat, and possibly Fire Domain Wizard and Dragontouched (for synergy with Arcane Spellsurge)   For damaging attacks I would focus on fire based spells, other then that the rest of my spells would go toward being a god.   I'm sure you guys will have some better ideas for this concept then I can come up with.
#2 aelryinth Oct 06, 2013 9:45:11	Remember, the versatility of the wizard is that he is a WIZARD. All you need to be a god wizard is the right spells. That's it. Everything else is gravy. God wizard is the right spells and smart gameplay, it has very little to do builds and the class itself.   To be a blaster, you need either the right feats or the right PrC's. Bonuses to caster level help loads. Everything is going to rotate around one or two choice spells, and you must build to enhance those spells. It's a completely different playstyle.   ==Aelryinth
#3 Kroann Oct 06, 2013 20:34:47	Well after some more research I sort of turned my focus to a blaster (fire) wizard who focuses on Calling Demons by use of the Planar Binding spells. I'm not really sure which route would be the best to take to make this work well.   I found a perfect PrC that fits my idea perfectly. The Nar Demonbinder. However i'm faced with the problem of this class using Charisma as its primary stat and casting spells as a Sorcerer.   Would I be better off going Sorcerer rather then Wizard to get into this PrC? How would you guys with all your knowledge go about building a Nar Demonbinder.   Again my concept is a Hobgoblin (pathfinder variant for +0 LA) Wizard / Sorcerer, who uses fire / brimstone demonic magic, and binds demons to serve him. (Planar Binding focused not summon monster)   Perhaps Cleric is my best choice?
#4 Andarious-Rosethorn Oct 06, 2013 21:00:19	Whichever rout you go, be sure if you're focusing on Fire that you're using Searing Spell (Ideally paired with Arcane Thesis), and that you've got either spells that don't allow SR/immunity, and or you've also got Assay Resistance. Nothing ruins a blaster's day like SR or immunity.   At the end of the day Incantitrix may be your best bet for any metamagic fun, although I'm a huge advocate of Ultimate Magus as well, especially when paired with Beguiler or Assassin.
#5 Kroann Oct 07, 2013 7:01:22	So if I was to go with the Nar Demonbinder, would sorcerer be my best place to start? Do the have everything required to use planar binding effectively? Or should I stick to wizard and enhance my planar binding through other means?
#6 Tempest_Stormwind Oct 07, 2013 13:33:57	If you're using Nar Demonbinder, but want to try Wizard, look into the Ultimate Magus or the Master Spellthief feat. I'm really not sure of better options here as I avoid Faerun's spellcasting options whereever possible. (I know enough to mention Malconvoker here, but Malconvoker doesn't actually work well with Nar Demonbinder, even though it absolutely should.)   Sorcerers tend to lack spells known to have the full suite of "amazing planar binding" spells on their spells known lists, but you can expand this using a runestaff (Magic Item Compendium), the Drake Helm (Explorer's Handbook), or Knowstones (Dragon Magazine).   I'm not sure if you've abandoned blasting altogether or not; it's possible to try this with wizard, but wizards usually have better things to do with their time. The reason sorcerers tend to outdo wizards as blasters is because of the relatively small number of spells you'd need to spam as a blaster, combined with a few sorcerer-only spells such as Arcane Fusion allowing you to keep the blasts and the blasting infrastructure flowing as levels increase.
#7 Kroann Oct 07, 2013 18:57:18	Well I did deciede that Wizard was the base I wanted to go with. I preferer the versatility, and they seem to have a better suite of tools to preform Planar Binding.   Aside from Planar Binding, I would like my wizard to be a competent blaster with Conjuration / Fire spells. Would you guys recommend specalizing or focus specalizing in conjuration for more spells per day? I would like to focus but don't want to hurt my ability to Bind. Here's what I had in mind so far.   Human 1 Conjuration Specalist (Abrupt Jaunt trade for familiar) Feats: Bloodline of Fire ( +2 CL on Fire) , Fiery Spell (+1 damage per die), (Fighter feat for scribe scroll, not sure what to take) 2 Conjuration Specalist 3 Conjuration Specalist -  Firey Burst (reserve feat +1 CL on Fire) 4 Conjuration Specalist 5 Conjuration Specalist - (bonus feat, metamagic??)   From here i'm not sure where I want to go. I could do Incantrix, and meta out my fire spells, and use my level feats for afew Planar Binding optimizing feats? I don't think Planar Binding really requires taking a PrC to be good at it. With the proper buffs, and a spell (from dragon 336) that allows me to use my Int instead of Cha to bargin with the demon.   What do you recommend to fit this idea Tempst?, you and your circle have some pretty awesome ideas for optimizing.
