Alright, some friends and I started a campaign that will hopefully ongoing. We started at level 1 and I chose Cloistered Cleric for that good old fashioned healing priest feel.

I'm just wondering where to go from here? I'm not a build type of guy so I don't know much in the way of optimizing, but I'd like to stay very healing and helping oriented. The benevolent, faithful man that's keeping everyone alive, you know? Help me out here.

Get the reserve feat "Touch of Healing" as early as you can manage it to avoid having to burn utility and buff spells on healing. In addition, do you want to eventually go melee, ranged, or buffer?

Zen Archery is great for a ranged/ranged touch attack focused build.

Honestly, you haven't given enough information to really help you w/ a build. You can look at the cleric handbook for examples of typical CO builds, but it is better to know what else is in the party and what type of role you want to fill.

Okay, well it's a fairly small, simple party consisting of 3-4 members. We've got the ninja, who's going to stay all acrobatic and deadly, and the fighter, who's usually down for killing three men in two rounds. We're working on a scout who focuses on throwing daggers, going into master thrower or something. I'll probably try and stay healer/buffer, but I'm not against using any spells I can prepare to own dudes when needed. I want to use my abilities to keep folks alive, healthy, and effective (keeping me not dead). Utility spells are also awesome to me. You know, miracles for all occasions.

Are you nailed to cloistered cleric? Because there's a build called Algernon in Doc Rock's war weaver's handbook that's pretty much the most powerful divine casting support character plausible short of a full on twice-betrayer of shar or something like that.

Elf cloistered cleric

Domains: Elf, and either Time, Magic, or Travel

Feat: Precise shot, knowledge devotion (from trading in Knowledge domain)

You can still be a healer and cast utility spells but now you can help the party out to where healing won't be as necessary.

How about a summoning build? With the Trickery domain, you can drop invisible and summon stuff.... Cloistered Clerics often have disappointing attack numbers. One can heal, buff, and summon while invisible, and companions seldom complain.

Divine Magician is like cheese in a can.

Divine Metamagic, if you like cheddar.

Initiate of Mystra, for that pure swiss flavor.

Ruby Knight Vindicator, has a nice parmessian taste, to sprinkle on top of your favorite ToB class.

Ethran, if your desire for the gouda-esque Circle Magic knows no bounds.

At this point, healing the other players becomes a political necessity, if they are to allow such a delicious and stinky character sheet into the same room.

If you're not gonna roll with a heavy hitter like war weaver, this is THE way to go. I love cloistered clerics very dearly. I tend to play archivists more because then I get to pretend to be Indiana Jones.... but I think very highly of the above-mentioned build
