#1 kell_kheraptis Nov 05, 2008 14:53:58	So I'm working on making a character (clvl 20, anything WotC allowed, plus PF and possibly GR/Mongoose) that is dragon-like as possible, without actually making a gimped dragon (LA ****, eek!). So far the best combo seems to be Sorc 10/Dragon Disc 10 (the PF version), with a bloodline to cover the lost caster levels/spell progression (slightly customized, as the half-dragon part is pyroclastic as opposed to red). The goals are : -16 BAB -At least decent on all three saves -9th level spellcasting -Breath Weapon that can be metabreathed (Dragon Breath covers this) -Claw/Claw/Bite/Wing/Wing/Tail attack routine (can also be covered with feats/race I believe) -Powerful Build and or Size increases (ex. or natural if possible, otherwise Giant Size it is) Any input is welcome, thanks! ~Kell
#2 phaedrusxy Nov 05, 2008 15:09:54	Bloodlines don't increase your spells known and level of spells you can cast. They only increase your effective caster level for things like defeating spell resistance, etc (like Practiced Spellcaster). I'm not sure how the PF dragon disciple is modified, but the core one is complete crap. I'm guessing they must have completely revamped it, if you're suggesting it... I've seen threads like this and they usually start out with kobold sorcerers.

#9 kell_kheraptis Nov 06, 2008 2:35:45	Something else that seems to have potential is a Bozak, from Dragon #315, assuming it also operates like any other "monster" in that you can forgo a regular class and advance by HD. The wings can be improved, a breath weapon and tail can be added easily enough, and it's full Dragon (i.e. d12s, Good BAB and Saves, full caster, etc). Any ideas on that? Also, a dragonborn anything has potential (raptorian comes to mind).

You get full spellcasting levels wherever you got a bonus spell before. So it's 7/10 spellcasting in total (although the last 3 levels are pretty useless and aren't worth losing a spellcasting level over). I'd go with something like Sorcerer 4/Full BAB class 1/Dragon Disciple 7/Eldritch Knight 8 (or Abjurant Champion, or Spellsword or whatever), I guess. That wouldn't give 9th level spells, though. Maybe Battle Sorcerer 8/Dragon Disciple 7/Abjurant Champion 5 -- that'd get a 9th level spell.

Looking over the Favored Soul, the only thing missing is DMM-capability. Short of taking Sacred Exorcist, is there a way to get Turn Undead? If the generic class abilities are allowed in place of bonus feats for customized characters, I'll be set, but if not, any ideas otherwise? I could go SA 1/Pal 2 (for Divine Grace) but then miss out on that sexy DR 10/epic.

I'd thought about DN, then PrPal2 for CL and Divine Grace. I'll have to double check the prerequisites, but the fact they get rebuke instead of turn isn't an issue, as this campaign uses the alternate alignment pallies. Fey Grace would be even better, but I've already used my LA and bloodline on dragon stuff (though maybe the bloodline can be changed...have to see what's available for that). EDIT : Looking over the Bozak again, all it really needs is improvement on it's flight capability, easily gotten via dragonborn/half dragon.
#15 cobberman Nov 22, 2008 21:43:28	I've been looking into a similar situation for my own dragon themed character. Specifically the silver dragon via Dragon Wildshape. Druid 3 / Dragonfire Adept 2 / Chameleon 3 / Warshaper 2* / Arcane Heirophant 10 *Warshaper is not required but is nice to get str/con bumps. I wasn't sure if a dragons breath attack is a "natural attack" which could increase by a size category. Not only can I wildshape into a Young Silver Dragon, but I can have both breath attacks in one turn (Metabreath Quicken), Invocations, fairly good Druid Casting as well as up to 3rd lvl Arcane spells via Chameleon and a kick @ss companion familiar You could also mix in DMM[Persist] from the Chameleon Class ability.
