| #1sulfariusJul 20, 2012 20:06:51 | Hey all. I've been searching through google and some forums as well as asking the company I play with for ways to make my warforged more mechanized without taking lvls in the Juggernaut PC. My character is a warforged artificer and I mainly want to do this for story elements, however Juggernaut is just too costly for this and not optimal anyway. Sadly my knowledge of the rules and such is only enough to be able to play and understand most spells and effects once they're explained so I am really at a loss here. Any thoughts? ^^ |

Because 1. it's a race that in and of itself doesn't have any striking PrC's (besides juggernaught) and 2. artificer is a class that REALLY doesn't have any striking PrC's. Find it sad, really, since artificers make soooo muuuccchhh of the Eberron campaign but yet there's just not much for them beyond the class itself. It reminds me what necromancers have to go through trying to find playable options that are not homebrewed. I honestly don't know too too much about artificer, so I wouldn't be the right person to talk to. But I've seen similar forums about people struggling on this issue. My intuition from a quick glance at artificer (without knowing a whole lot about them) would be to either not take a PrC at all, or to take one (even one that doesn't directly enhance the artificer's abilities) anywhere between 8th to 14th level. By 8th level, you're a pretty solid wand user, so your role in combat, as opposed to something juggernaut-like, would be to use wands from a safe distance while you create obnoxious golems to keep your enemies busy. Granted, you probably want to lean towards 14th level before taking a PrC, since having at least a somewhat high artificer level is important in meeting high "caster level" item creation prerequisites, unless you can find one which advances your effective character level as an artificer (there's plently of good ones like that in complete scoundrel). I say this because up to fourteenth level, there's quite a lot of good class features rolling, including ones that will optimize what artificers seem to do best in the battlefield (reading scrolls and firing wands, that is, and skill mastery is going to be such a convenience, in general). Once you get up to the 14th level threshold as an artificer, though, practically nothing except bonus feats, increased infusions per day (you're already at your highest level, by then), and absurdly high craft reserve points, which I'm honestly guessing you could do without, since you can always XP salvage from your at least decent amount of treasure you've obtained (hopefully your DM isn't a treasure stickler on you, because that would just be unfair). That's my two cents. Hope it helps ![]() |

| #7Captain_KoboldJul 23, 2012 7:15:29 | What do you mean by "mechanised"? Are you trying to transform the character into a full construct like the Warforged Juggernaut does, or are you playing in a setting with actual mechanical options and want to add them to your character? There are some warforged feats like Improved Fortification and Improved Resiliency that accentuate construct traits at the expense of living traits. They sound like your best bet. Or whatever feats or items in your setting that add mechanical options to living characters. |
| #8ObsidianConspiracyJul 24, 2012 14:50:50 | You could use Green Star Adept, and ask if it advances your artificer abilities. Turn to contruct at the end. Or maybe a rework of the Effigy template. However my personal favourite would be picking up some Half-Golem (MM II) at a later level |
