| #1bozwevialMay 01, 2008 20:25:09 | (For reference, a list of wizard spells that can be persisted is here: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=477252) Now, I'm going to be playing an incantrix soon. Yes, I'm taking Persistent Spell. No, I'm not crazy. I'm hoping to make clever use of the feat without doing something my DM will loathe me for. So what I'm looking for is this: What would you Persist? I don't care if it's just for fun, rather useful, or OMGWTFBBQ, just what spells you'd persist and why. (Keep in mind that arcane spells are probably the focus here since I doubt I'll be taking Arcane Disciple.) I've looked at a few, and obviously Wraithstrike is a tempting option. Another question: Can Hunter's Mercy be persisted? I doubt it can be, since it's similar to True Strike, but it would be nice to know the answer. (It'd also be bloody hard to do, considering it's a ranger spell.) Apart from Wraithstrike, though, I'm open to suggestions, seeing as I've hit a blank. |

| #4SenevriMay 02, 2008 1:48:00 | is persist Resistance + Residual Metamagic + cast high level spell legal? |
| #5brainpiercingMay 02, 2008 4:03:12 | is persist Resistance + Residual Metamagic + cast high level spell legal? AFAIK Residual MM only works when you cast a spell with MM, then cast the same spell again. The second casting will receive the same MM effects. |
| #6goram_browncoatMay 02, 2008 6:22:27 | persisted battlemagic perception (heroes of battle) + improved counterspell feat = win swift fly foresight (core) dragonsight (draconomicon prolly, maybe spc too) alter self at lower evels, draconic polymorph at mid levels, shapechange later (this however is not a good way to be incinspicuous towards the DM .. but then thats know about poly spells ![]() wraithstrike only if you wanna be doing melee (which you probably shouldnt do if you dont want to take arcane disciple to pick up divine power) everything else you do is touch anyway. If you do go melee, the bite of the weretiger/boar/bear/wolf series of spells from spc is also awesome. Thunderous lance from spc is also pretty sweet for a melee incantatrix, allowing you to keep your distance and also doing the best damage type in the game (well second best, i guess unnamed is strictly speaking the best ![]() greater dimension jumper (comp mage or phbII, i forget), free action movement? yes please greater and then later superior invisibility veil of undeath (spc), you just cant beat it for picking up immunities in one go (though it does have the downside of healing like an undead, so positive energy hurts, still its worth it imho) stone body, nice way to pick up immunities untill you get veil of undeath. again with some drawbacks though, but you can offset these with other spells glorious master of the elements (dragon magic maybe, not sure) standard action blasting all day long. Yes it allows spell resistance and itll take some metamagic to make it a hard punch. But it gives you an attack option all day long, leaving your other spellslots open for the much better god/batman spells. ray deflection (spc) can be very handy scintilating scales (draconomicon) is awesome if you are also using polymorph type spells. Change into something with good antural armor, then this turns it into deflection bonus for awesome touch AC. im probably forgetting some, theres so many awesome spells to persist ![]() |
| #7eepopMay 02, 2008 9:41:51 | Personally, I try to keep a great majority of what I am persisting based on group buffs. That way, even if it is a massive power increase, its spread across the group, so if the DM compensates with more powerful monsters, they are an even match for all the characters pretty much. If you focus the persisted buffs on yourself, and the DM needs to compensate, the new monsters are a good match for you, but significantly overpowering the rest of the party. |
| #8bozwevialMay 02, 2008 14:48:11 | Out of curiosity, if I took Arcane Disciple for Divine Power and persisted that plus a thunderlance, would that be likely to raise some hackles? |
| #9Omen_of_PeaceMay 02, 2008 16:40:15 | Personally, I try to keep a great majority of what I am persisting based on group buffs. +1 It's the best way to go about it IMO. Unfortunately many of the best buffs are personal or not persistable... @Bozwevial: it depends on the power level in your group, which only you know. |
| #10jaronkMay 02, 2008 16:49:19 | AFAIK Residual MM only works when you cast a spell with MM, then cast the same spell again. The second casting will receive the same MM effects. But if you used Shadow Conjuration or Shadow Evocation to find two useful Conjuration or Evocation buffs (such as Greater Mage Armour) it might work just fine. JaronK |
