In my current campaign, The DM's most powerful NPC is an evil spellcaster called Zachary. the DM tells me he is a master of 'all forms of magic', and he played this character in 1st edition, through to 2nd, all the way to lvl 65.

But, we want him to have a character sheet, because at the moment his power is undefined, which for our DM means infinite. The only definate we know about him is that he is some form of upgraded lich (not a demilich, because the DM can't stand the idea of being just a floating skull. But he does have well in excess of 1,000 separate phylacteries.)

So, Class features are unimportant, we are just trying to get the highest effective spellcasting level possible with those 65 levels. The 'forms of magic' in order of importance are: Arcane, Divine, Pact magic, and anything else is a plus (but unlikely to be used as the DM doesn't have the rulebooks for them.)

Thanks in advance for your help!

None's gonna make a char sheet of 65 levels just like that, there's barely rules for it. If he played the character earlier, there should be character sheets (or at least some rememberance of what levels he took) earlier?

Look in Deities and Demigods, under Vecna, advance from there.

Well, I didn't mean for the whole character cheet to be made by someone else. I suppose i was more looking for tips.

I mean, i could make a cleric A/wizard B/Binder C/ Mystic Theurge X/Anima mage Y. I'm wondering where the best place to begin would be. He will probably want a few levels archmage in there at some point (he can do REALLY crazy things with his fireball)

Besides, it would probably be best to use Ur-preist for this guys divine magic (from what we've seen he doesn't really care about the gods), but i'm not sure how Ur-preist casting would scale for stuff like the mystic theurge, or even how it could carry into epic scale.

I don't think you fully see what Carnivore laid out for you. An Artificer 20/ Epic Artificer 35/Master Arcane Artisan 10 can pretty much do anything with any spell evar, light years above what an Archmage or Ur-Priest can do. You should really reconsider this build.

Well, i know about the artificers talents, but considering that we have never, EVER seen zachary not holding a book, we envision him as more of a spell preparation type of guy.

However, When it comes to simplicity, you can't get much better than that. i'll have to fish out my ECS for him.

The book could be:

1) His diary
2) A ruse
3) A Magical Item in the shape of a book
4) An heirloom (his fathers spell book)
5) A religous text
6) Research
7) An illusion
8) etc.

There is always a role-playing reason for a roll-playing mechanic if you think hard enough.

Splash of Archivist then? That covers just about every possible Divine spell, and a good several Arcane ones that also appear on Divine lists.
