Not sure if this has been done to death or not, but I would like to make a character that is immune to as many things as possible. Preferably with as little cheesiness as can be managed.

I'm thinking Warforged as the race, which starts us out immune to: Poison, Sleep, Paralysis, Disease, Nausea, Fatigue, Exhaustion, Sickening, and Energy Drain. As well as not needing to eat, sleep, or breath.

Only things that I know for certain my DM will not allow are the Book of Nine Swords and Dragon/Dungeon magazines.

Find a way to get regeneration with Warforged Juggernaut. Regeneration turns everything into non-lethal, and WFJ is immune to non-lethal...

Binders also get lots of immunities with proper vestiges, but I also second Warforged Juggernaut. The Devil's in the details, though, right?

I think you might be able to find what you are looking for in Surreal's Handy Links for Optimization Work, or his Lists of Stuff, conveniently listed in his sig or stickied on the top of the forum.

Half-Red dragon, Half-Black dragon Air Ogre Mage Wizard 5/Pale Master 10. Of course, that is an ECL 34, but you are immune to just about everything.

Immunities list:
Half-Red Dragon: Immunity to fire, sleep, and paralysis
Half-Black Dragon: Immunity to Acid
Air elemental variant: Immunity to drowning, suffocation, or any effect requiring inhalation
Ogre Mage: Regeneration causes all damage to be nonlethal
Pale Master: Immunity to disease, nonlethal damage, stunning, poison, sleep, paralysis, death effects, critical hits, ability drain, energy drain, and damage to Str, Dex, and Con.

Occult slayer 5 can get immunity to Mind Effects. How high level are you willing to take this?

I'm gonna say keep it at or below ECL 20. Also, I'm fine with magic items as long as the cost of said items stays below the DMG listing for average ECL 20 gold (a friend has my DMG right now and I don't know that value off hand).

Ok, race doesn't matter much. Wizard 10/Pale Master 10 gets you Shapechange. Assume the form of an Air Troll. Use your spells to grant yourself immunity to Fire and Acid. Use Mind Blank to grant yourself immunity to mind effects. Limited Wish can grab Freedom of Movement. That's all before items.

Necropoliten Human Archivist 20

Cast Monsterous regeneration and energy immunity.

Also Illithid savant could provide immunity to a considerable amount of things.

Don't forget Bone Knight. It's a decent class in itself, and it gives some nice immunities. Also, a special mention to Mark of the Dauntless and Favor of the Martyr, the only two ways I know of that gives immunity to daze.

Veil of Undeath (SC) is a Wizard/Cleric 8 spell that gives you the undead immunities. 10 min/level, to be extended or persisted as needed. That way you don't have to take specific PrCs to get the benefits (but of course this comes late).

Any base race with 20 caster levels of Wizard, Cleric, Sorceror (with the right spells), or Druid 20, can potentially be immune to almost anything.

Wizard- Shapechange (Will-o-Wisp) + Mindblank + Energy Immunity (x3 (extended)) + Veil of Undeath + Transformation of the Deeps + Greater Anticipate Teleportation + Ironguard + Elemental Body + Superior Invis + Ghostform + Nondetection + Misdirection = Can't be seen, touched, or burned by almost anything in the game.

Edited.

funny thing is, veil of undeath says under its immunities that it makes you immune to death. not death effects, death. so according to the spell, it makes you immortal. if we use cheese to make it cast at infinite caster level, we would never die. not even of old age, since dying of old age is still death.

Wow, didn't expect so many responses. I should have guessed the answer would basically be "pick a caster class, go to town". But now I have some specifics to look into, thanks all!

Master Transmogrifist can net you virtually anything once you hit the capstone. Some of the old threads in my handy links should give you ideas. I believe one of the main things was grabbing the Will-O'-Wisp's immunity to magic.

Warforged Juggernaut does not work with Regeneration, if I remember them losing their Con score. Going from memory though.

Nope, WFJ retain their Con score.

That's why they were specifically mentioned instead of, say, golems.

Master Transmogrifist can net you virtually anything once you hit the capstone. Some of the old threads in my handy links should give you ideas. I believe one of the main things was grabbing the Will-O'-Wisp's immunity to magic.

Master Transmogrifist would allow you to turn into a Troll and gain the trolls regeneration (in fact, they give that as a specific example), then give that the will-o-wisp's immunity to any magic that allows a SR.

Veil of Undeath (I don't have Spell Compendium to look it up, so I am assuming it makes you immune to everything that an undead is immune to without removing your Con score) allows for the following Immunities:

# Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects).
# Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and death effects.
# Not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), as well as to fatigue and exhaustion effects.
# Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).
# Not at risk of death from massive damage.

Add in an item of Resist Energy (Acid and Fire 30) and you are immune to all damage except Acid and Fire damage that does not allow a SR throw and is over 30 points of damage.

Only bad thing about this build is Master Transmogrifist only progresses spellcasting on 6 of its 10 levels so you do not have access to 9th level spells until epic levels.

Edit: Found the wording of Veil of Undeath, it removes your Con score and thus cancels the Trolls Regeneration.

Elemental Body (SpC) gives you a huge amount of immunities, along with 30' of Perfect Flight.

A Warforged with that, along with Mind Blank / Disobediance, is immune to most annoying effects.

::gleeful gesticulations::

Body of War is pure lulz, if you can get the regeneration from somewhere else.

While it's sort of a funny-once trick, an elan with the right feat and a ton of PSP can basically survive any one nasty charge by anything short of the monstrosities here (and if he's worth a crap, he'll immediate action manifest before getting hit anyway). Really, not taking damage > immunity, and the best way to avoid getting hit/taking damage is messing with time, through all the various avenues.

For the record, combining Shield of Ilmater (or whatever it got converted into...Greater Shield of the Deity I believe?) with the Celerity line of spells can be incredibly sexy, be it to stop something from going off with abjurations, or return blasting something before they fully get their shot in, Western style. All told an Erudite or Psion though, with access to arcane magic (which through the Geomancer is every spell ever, divine or arcane), can make him/her/it-self immune to anything before the damage can be dealt, so I'd say start there ;)

Use Carnivore's build, but grab the ability to rage somehow and take the feat from Sandstorm, Blazing Berserker, that makes you immune to fire when you rage.

Not the most recent version from Spell Compendium.
