| #1banaticusOct 07, 2008 2:15:07 | I'd like to build a character who's great at fighting, a solid fighter-type, but who's also great at a single craft check. Any advice? |

When you can afford it, buy Masterwork Tools (+2 Circumstance), Luckstone (+1 Luck), Competence Tool (+15 Competence) and a Headband (+3 from Int). That alone is enough to make a Masterwork Item of almost any type with a take 10 (31 before Skill ranks). Anything higher than that is just so you can make more/faster. With max ranks and the above items, you're looking at a take 10 of 54. If you have the feat, you can also take Skill Focus (+3) or Artisan (+2 craft/+2 Profession), but really, that's just overkill. Fair Warning, by 'the book' crafting is neither very profitable nor very useful at high levels. It takes FOREVER to make anything decent without magic, even with that stunning 54 modifier above, your looking at 2 WEEKS to make 1 masterwork dagger that's only going to net you ~50gp profit. You'll make more and have more 'fun' spending that 2 weeks finding a very young Wyrm to solo. It's cool for flavor purposes, mind you, and almost all of my characters do it, but if you think you're going to either get rich or make something you'll actually use beyond level 4 or 5 (with some exceptions), you're just going to be disappointed. |
