I'm bringing in a new character to our ongoing game because the DM was being rigid about letting me retrain / rebuild my old one into what I wanted, so I figured I'd try something new. I like charging warrior types ever since I discovered the headlong rush feat so I figured I'd play some kind of orc scout / ranger combo (ECL 9), probably desert half-orc with a mineral warrior template. Here's what I got so far:

My levels: ecl 9; scout 4 / ranger 3 / barbarian 1 (pounce and ferocity) / +1 LA

base rolls, 4d6 drop low: 18, 9, 13, 12, 14, 12

assigned with desert 1/2 orc adjustment, 2 ability boosts, and mineral warrior adjustment ( / denotes what it is in ferocity)

STR 16/20 (13+2+1)
DEX 18/22
CON 20 (14+4+2)
INT 9 = (12-4+1)
WIS 10 (12-2)
CHA 7 (9 - 2)

For feats I've got:
Power attack (ranger, strongarm style)
Track (ranger)
Endurance (ranger)
Swift Hunter
Headlong Rush
Steadfast Determination
Leap attack (flaw)
Combat Reflexes (flaw)
Open Feat ??? (scout 4th level)
Run (desert 1/2 orc bonus)

What would be good to fill in the open feat slot? I was gonna just put expeditious dodge, or combat expertise for improved trip. I plan on use a two handed reach weapon.

I don't really like the -2 hits on each mental stat from the mineral warrior but I figure since scouts and rangers get d8 I could use that DR 8 / adamantine, +4 con to get my HP up, and +3 natural armor which is a fair trade for the hit to all the mentals. Having a burrow speed could also be useful for ambush type $hit.

PS: I've been playing an orc for a while now, and I've thought of trying a Warforged scout as Ive never played a warforged before and they get a con bonus and don't take any hits to int, dex, or str, but I see no good replacement feat for headlong rush for someone who charges. And as a warforged scout I'd probably want the mithral body feat I am assuming, which also eats up a feat?

Thoughts?

No one?? Can a warforged do anything to compare with the damage from a headlong rush? Do they have any options I can use to make a cool scout? Gotta be someone out there who likes to play warforged, or melee oriented scouts. I've never played a scout before so I'd like to know if I am entirely off based with my feats or not.

Lion totem variant from The Complete Champion. You lose fast movement but gain pounce. Fast movement is good pounce is better. :D

I would go with either improved initiative, extra rage, or improved skirmish.

This character is going in the shredder and I reckon my days of playing 3.5 are numbered.

My friend / DM died abruptly due to congestive heart failure. It's pretty terrible.

Enjoy every session with your buddies, because that one could be your last.

Yeah it really sucks. My DM, Don, had health problems and he knew it, was most likely in constant pain, but his personality was so over the top that one just didn't notice it or didn't think it would ever actually phase him to a significant degree. It's pretty unbelievable to me.

I decided to do a warforged after all. Just over a week ago he was enthusiastically telling me how my decision to play a warforged inspired to make a jesterish warforged bard NPC who was going to have all kinds of wonky and amusing body attachments... he doesn't have Eberron so I sent him the warforged racial traits from the book by email, but by the next day he was in the hospital, never read the email, and the last I talked to him was the friday prior to the monday he went in the hospital. Alas, I'll keep the character for a future game, an NPC or just for remembrances.

On a positive note I ran into a friend of mine who also used to game with Don back before I knew him but who I grew out of touch with in college, who is currently friends with Don's brother and wife who also play 3.5, and my friend runs 3.5 games for them, so I can probably bring this character into his game now that I think of it. :D

Don's on the far right in this short vid: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GUwP3Ga5Ook
