So, in a low-level gestalt game (currently 3rd) but ready to advance quickly, i'm looking to build something pretty melee focused. Another player is sitting pretty heavily on a duel caster build, so in an effort to go the other way i'm considering options.

I'm looking at heavy armour too, but it seems quite restrictive in class choices. Fighter (with armour) on one side, and the other i'm not sure about. I've considered Dragon Shaman, but essentially i'm trying to find an option that will allow for me to at least compete with such a powerful caster in being both useful and interesting, but it seems quite tricky.

Most classes it seems either have magic, and/or don't seem to like armour very much. Duskblade was suggested, but i'm not really a fan (plus, i'm trying to avoid magic too much) i'm basically looking for classes with cool class abilities that don't mind heavy armour.

I DID consider Monk at one point but the GM doesn't want that sort of unarmed angle . So yeah.. anything that can help me match up to a double caster without having to take casting myself?

What books are allowed? Eberron/Fearun fair game?? TOB???

those are the "important" ones.. esspecially considering Fighter-esque builds..

the first thing, that pops into mind is Warblade on one of sides ... on the other ... mmhh ... there you are rather free

of course another interessting gestalt could be a fighter/knight - 2 good saves, D12 ... and interessinting shield-focused abilities

Knight is another one i considered, but i've never really used it before, so i wasn't sure. Faerun is a possibility, but TOB and Eberron are out, for different reasons, but no less so excluded. Generally its the Completes plus PHB II but others can be worked in.

Barbarian (whirling frenzy, lion totem, dashing step)1, fighter 2//Rogue (feats variant) 3

Awesome skills, 4 bonus fighter feats, 5/3/1 base saves, evasion, pounce, better rage, no charging penalties. Take extra rage so you can frenzy 3 times a day.

Have to agree that a Barb/rogue or a fight/rogue will jsut be devastating in a fight as a melee character. If you can get a flanker, someone with the dmg output of a full melee with sneak attacks at full BAB on top?

Ouch.
