Hi everybody, i'm here to ask your help on optimizing the Mindbender.
I know it wont be a REALLLl optimization, since the loss of 5 caster levels make this class suck, but i was wondering how to take the max out of it!
The class sucks but the concept is just great!!

I was thinking, and came to my mind that the best entry would be Bard 5, but still need lots of feats, strategy, and progression help.

The builds i have in mind are:

Bard5/MindBender5/SublimeChord5/Mindbender+5
( 8th level spells, all the Charms from MB, and Timeless song. Maybe replacing some SublimeChord level for abjurant champion, dont know...)

Bard5/MindBender5/SeekeOfTheSong6/Mindbender+4
(totally dump spells, but you activate spelldeath song and let your charmed monster figh for you!)

Sorcerer5/Mindbender10/MansterOfTheUnseenHand5
(Low spells again, but lots of chamed monster and flying swords to help...)

well thats what i could make, but i am sure you can make it better!!

i normaly would just use Core and Completes, but since its the Mindbender we talking about i guess we should try all materias avaible....
Thank you all for the time and for the help and sorry about my poor english!

Valda,

Take a look at the Book Libris Mortis, the Mother Cyst feat and spells do a much better job at what the Mindbender class is trying to do. ;)

Mindbender is pretty much a 1-level dip class.... any more than that puts an entire spell level behind.

Whether your dipping it or not, the best entry is most definatly Wizard. Wizard> Bard 99% of the time.

I'd actually say: Beguiler = Warlock > Wizard > Bard. Unless the Bard is going Ur-Chord Lyricist, bard would be at the top then. Wizards don't always need Mindbender, but beguilers and warlocks get some great mileage out of it.

But yeah, Mindbender is 1 level only. Especially if you are going Ur-Chord Lyricist. Lost caster levels after taking Sublime Chord is bad.

So, speaking of the Mindbender, is the Factotum entry I posted in another thread legit? A Factotum can, after all, use Charm Person as a Spell-Like Ability.

Yes, the Factotum entry is legit, and Mindbender + Mindsight is a pretty useful dip for them.

Ironically, a Wizard5/Mindbender10 is less of a mind bender than a Wizard15.

I agree that the Mindbender is really just a 1 dip prestige class. If you enjoy it's concept, I think you should look into the Thrallherd prestige class in the Expanded Psionics Handbook. (If you are into the whole psionics thing, that is)

I noticed you threw the bard up in there too. Pithica suggested a really good build to me earlier using the mindbender and bard:

Human Bard5/Mindbender1/Lyric Thuamaturge 3/Virtuoso1/SubChord1/Virtuoso9

You'll get 15th level inspire courage, +16BAB and 9th level arcane spells/6th level bard spells all in one shot, as well as qualifying for the Mindsight* feat listed in lords of madness.

* Mindsight is not listed anywhere in the table of contents. I believe it's on page 123 or 126. Somewhere around there (sorry for not knowing exactly)

Really, the primary reason you'd want Mindbender is just for the Telepathy, which lets you communicate without being detected by most, and is regardless of language(I think).
