Mindflayer PC?

May 24, 2009 21:05:45 I'm going to be playing in a level 10 gestalt game pretty soon, and would like to play as a Mindflayer. Problem is, the LA on +7, and they have 8 racial HD. We do get +2 LA free, but still, it's not possible for me to work that in by level 10 . Besides, what could be weaker than running around as a Mindflayer at mid levels.

So... is there a half-mindflayer template sitting around somewhere? Some prestige class that turns you into a mindflayer? Something?

Or should I simply find a way to get polymorph at will so I can permanently turn into a Mindflayer?

So far I think I would like to get into the Master Transmogrifist prestige class(Complete Arcane), the Walker in the Waste prestige class (Sandstorm), and possibly the Nature's Warrior prestige class (Complete Warrior). I was thinking about using druid as the base class, but I haven't really thought through all the logistics extensively.

Or Just cast it again once your in the form of the mindflayer, thus making it permanent

May 24, 2009 22:01:25 savage species talks about leveling up in monster classes.

so the ECL 15 of mindflayer would just be 15 levels that you take on one side of your gestalt tree.

talk it over with your DM. you'd have to split up the mindflayer over 15 levels. but you get the full thing at level 15.

I can't seem to find anything about Half-Mindflayers on the interwebs, or any connection between the two...
Is there some sort of .pdf file or something out there with more information?

The subject gains the Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores of the new form but retains its own Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. It also gains all extraordinary special attacks possessed by the form but does not gain the extraordinary special qualities possessed by the new form or any supernatural or spell-like abilities.

No mind blast. No Psionics. Just extract.

The polymorph at will statement was unrelated to playing as a mindflayer. I want to get polymorph at will specifically for the Master Transmogrifist (complete arcane) prestige class I plan on taking.

May 25, 2009 19:50:27 Hmm, there is the Brainstealer dragon from Dragon magazine number #337. It has (wyrmling) 7 Dragon HD and a level adjustment of +5. If you get a free +2, that would fit into 10 levels. A little more exotic than a half-illithid.

I don't have any Dragon magizines, and my DM wouldn't let me use them if I had them.

All I need is a way to get polymorph at will (preferably in some non-cheesy way) and the character will be finished.

May 25, 2009 20:09:47 I take it back. I don't really need polymorph at will, I just need a way to get polymorph really early on so I can get into the Master Transmogrifist prestige class early.

1 - Psion (Telepath) 1 Illithid Grapple (x1), Illithid Grapple (x2)
2 - Psi Warrior 1 Illithid Grapple (x3)
3 - Psi Warrior 2 Illithid Grapple (x4), Illithid Extraction
Progress as Psion from there and PrC into whatever you wish.

Make sure to take Psionic Blast

There all the Illithid goodies and flavour minus most of the draw backs. Purple Skin, Tentacles, and Brain Eating.
Take you're first level as a something non-psionic and take the Phrenic Template (if thats possible) which is an even +2 LA then do the build above for levels 2, 3, 4

Does not get you into Illithid savant if that was your aim.
