| #1TubercularOxFeb 23, 2009 2:04:15 | So I'm running a mental exercise, designing a Fochlucan Lyrist boosting Ur Priest, learning Druidic the old fashioned way: A level in Druid. This is a mini-optimization challenge: How much can you get out of one level of Druid? Unearthed Arcana incredibly enhances the Druid's front loading. I heard a rumor on this board that you can use the Druid variant class feature (wildshape -> hunter) with the Druidic Avenger variant class. Is this correct? Because this means you lose the level-based animal companion and wild empathy, the useless-after-ur priest spontaneous casting, and the unusable wild shape, and in exchange get +10 move and the track feat. You also get a Favored Enemy. What's a good selection here? The wis to AC and rage 1/day seems rather superfluous, unless I'm missing something... I'd rather have the magic armor, and even if I self-buff-rush-to-melee, I don't know that I'd like to give up the option to cast an emergency spell in the middle, so I don't trust Rage. So, is there any way to milk any more out of this Druid level? Ideal would be some deeply buried feat that let you permanently sacrifice spell slots in exchange for some ability that won't be denied by Ur Priest, but I'm probably not thinking outside the box enough here. Depending on what's available may change the direction I steer the character. It's a mental exercise, so there's no DM banhammer, but contrariwise there's no homebrew either. And just to exercise a fetish: No dragon magazine or online supplements. WotC approved dead trees only. After all, the character is an ex druid and enjoys the exquisite suffering of the trees. I've fully read the Fochlucan Lyrist tools thread, but if there's a good thread on just Ur Priests, I can't find it. Not that I've spent more than about 10 minutes looking. Thank you for your help. |

I just thought I would see what I could do with a single level of druid. I'm not as clever as you guys, I had to hunt pretty hard just to find the alternate class abilities in UA. |

You have to give up wildshaping and your Animal Companion, both of which are useless to you, and gain a nice movement and combat form, which can also be used for stealth. This might or might not open the way for Wild Feats (up to your DM how to handle that, I guess). |

My first thought was, "But I can get fly so many other ways." But my LAST thought was, "But then I wouldn't be a Tiny person riding my Eagle companion!" The image is hysterical. |
