| #1HexenwolfFeb 19, 2014 3:50:56 | As the name implies, i`m looking to play a summoner :P I've found quite a few scattered pieces but I do need help! And since I know what I want! it~s better! basically? A summoner :P using my summons as scouts, allies, and trap trippers. I can`t count how many times of death by pitfall. Bah. Anyways, I will mourn my summons, but, that does not mean I won't do my best to actually fight xD Right now we are at level 7, my stat base rolls are 18 18 16 14 12 12 (DM made it so no one would complain... i think it's a bit much... We start out with a +1 weapon, and masterwork armor. but thats the base. as for allowed feats, races, classes, spells, etc, we use anything on dndtools.eu Quite a lot to work with I know, but, a summoner could be great fun. i just wish I knew where to start xD Augment? Ashbound? Greenbound? you get the picture xD I want to stay back and just conjure/buff every round. heal maybe too xD The other people in my party are a sorceror and archery style ranger... please... someone... anyone... help! |

My thought is that his reasoning is our lack of equipment. Lack of equipment, and the monsters and traps he throws at us. One roll of my monsters, as much as I hate to say it, will be fodder. Anyways! Here's the type of encounter he throws at us. 3 mummies and a basilisk in a 20 ft by 20 ft room. door sealed shut behind us. lights... none. everything has concealment. the basilisk has true seeing, and reasons the mummies don't need it. it's magic darkness so no darkvision. me running my polearm monk. stoned. killed a mummy though! xD Another time he nuked my char by putting dragon bile on the door xD Maybe you see what I'm dealing with. Hopefully. So while I agree that the rolls are crazy... I dunno. So, aside from that... I want to play my summoner 1) Because it will be fun 2) Because he should survive a lot longer and 3) I`m optimizing so I can Survive xD my level 3 char got slaughtered by a guillotine that did 2d12 + 18 damage xD He is evil! "When the DM smiles, it's already too late." That's him! xD I try to play fun, he tries to play with what he can! Level 9 duskblade with a couple prestige that took out 2 level 14 yuan-ti by himself! I can't do that xD So I'm asking for help! To play fun /and/ survive his campaigns. If this doesn't work, I'll just play a debuff hexblade, stop em til nothing can roll high enough. Anyways. Once again, I beg for help. Someone xD Anyone. Tempest, you were awesome, but I don't know what to do. There are the options, but what to take? When? You know? And, level 7 xD Not level 20 yet. I can't plan that far ahead! And I know the equipment sucks. I can't do anything about it though xD |

Two builds for you.

If you'd rather not get your hippie on with the druid, or work with the flexible mechanics of the psion, nothing stops you from considering the Malconvoker.
Basically, it's an arcane dedicated summoning PrC that specializes in summoning - and controlling - evil creatures, using them as tools against evil. It's also shockingly good, as it gives you incredible magical mileage out of your summons and their spell-like abilities when applied properly. |
| #8NineInchNallFeb 20, 2014 18:45:04 | Um ...
You could always go with a Shadowcraft Mage build, since it could be fully online as of 9th level. Nothing says, "I play |

| #10NineInchNallFeb 20, 2014 19:24:57 | Well, you use your feats thusly:
Now you just take Shadowcraft Mage. 6th level can even be Mindbender, too, if'n yer wantin' sum Mindsight. |

| #12LashiusFeb 21, 2014 13:38:33 | I actually prefer cleric when going into malconvoker. You're not tied down to spell book, and if you take the spontaneous domain variant from players handbook 2 with the summoner domain you can spontaneously cast every summon monster spell save for 4, 6, 8, and 9 (4, 6, and 8 are the planar ally spells, and 9 is gate, so no real loss there) and get a +2 caster level boost when casting conjuration summoning/calling spells.
Throw in cloistered cleric for bonus knowledge domain, and take the Divine magician alternative class feature, you get two domains (or just the summoner domain and knowledge devotion as a bonus feat if you plan on going into melee frequently) and a nice selection of wizard spells on top of it all. All of that with 6 Cloistered Cleric/ 9 Malconvoker/ 5 Thaumaturgist, and you're pretty set, with a lot of free feats. |
