Posted this in PrCs, but figured it'd be better put here. New build further down.

I'm looking to create a build from these classes, somehow. It's a difficult thing to do, but I want it to be an effective caster ( I do not mind lagging a level behind other casters, or gaining my 9th level casting/powers in epic levels) and still incorporate -moderate- kung fu-age. It's following a character used in other systems, and out of traditional story freeform.

The point of the character is to have decent(average?) martial arts (by using monk, kungfu genius, precocious apprentice or some other amalgamation..they are going to be human) and then focus on dimensional magics. Temporal magics and powers (Nomad has a LOT of these, and compared to wizard it is a lot weaker in the style I'm looking to do) Help would be -greatly- appreciated. Time/Space magic/powers that allow them to hop around the battlefield, speed up and slow down friends and foes, and generally control the battlefield in that sense are key.

I think lower level wizardry is more important than the higher level spells, unless I'm mistaken (and can substitute scrolls and such for them if really needed). Psionic powers seem to have more of an umph in this endeavor.

If something can be done to squeak levels up towards 20th, and then continue Cerebemancer after 20th, that'd be awesome.

If the character needs to be a Gish, then that's okay too. Im just looking for some alternatives.

Thanks for helping!

I'm not looking for Zerth Cenobite as much as I am some minor monkly abilities. I'd use monk's belt and an amulet of mighty fists to up the monkly abilities, as well as the Kung-fu Genius feat to keep it from being especially MAD. The emphasis is more on theme than optimization. Precognitive psionic powers will improve his combat abilities from there.

EDIT : Stats Were ROLLED for this character, and are not PB. MAD is not a very big problem.
EDIT2: Completely new build below, just looking for feats
EDIT3: Above is irrelevant now. Build has come closer to completion from http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=15398191&postcount=32 in this same thread.

The point is still to have the minor monk abilities, and increase them. There are a few feats that allow this thanks to the help of Carnivore and others. The final level selection would be a tossup between Monk, Chronorebel and Erudite. From there, its just feat order (and then the all important power selection.. yeesh! So many powers)

Monk 2 - +1 BaB, +1 All Saves, Evasion, Bonus feat, d8 HP (Greater Flurry at Chronorebel 9, with feats)
Erudite 5 - Bonus Feat(Psionic), d4 HP, +1 Unique Power/day, +30ish PP, +1 ML, +0 BaB
Chronorebel 10 - Capstone lvl 20 Ability (Chronosyncrony) d6 HP, +1 BaB, +1 Reflex, Greater Flurry

Monk/Ardent/Archivist/Psychic Theurge would work a LOT better. Take only 1 level of monk, and take Tashalatora (Psychic Theurge) from the Secrets of Sarlona book. That will stack your Psychic Theurge levels with monk for most things. Due to how Ardent interacts with Practiced Manifestor, you won't be behind much in manifesting ability. And all three classes rely on Wisdom.

That combination is unworkable.

Replace Wizard/Psion/Cerebemancer with Erudite and get arcane spells as powers. Replace monk with Elocater.

Erudite 6 / Elocater 10 / Erudite 4
1st: Dodge
3rd: Mobility
6th: Spring Attack

Wow, that Erudite power is really awesome. There are only a few Wizard spells I really want -anyways- to make the theme work. They are the token spells which blur and obscure time and space (Haste, Slow, Teleport types) to fit the theme. There are some spells of the Wizard school that just cannot be done without, especially many of those in the Spell Compendium -- like the resist planar alignment. (the character travels to many worlds and realities).

Thank you -greatly- for the Erudite tip. I have to have a martial arts aspect in the character in some form. (I also like the AC benefit with Kungfu Genius)

On further review..Elocator is really awesome. But what about the Erudite's 'cannot learn new powers if a psionic/non psionic levels equal or exceed the Erudite's main class levels' clause?

Further reading the description, I find out I am wrong. It's psionic classes only (not non-psionic) and the +1 to existing class improves the Erudite level as if I had taken a level in Erudite. So it's all good.

Alternate between the classes by keeping Erudite ahead at all times.

Erudite 6 / Elocater 5 / Erudite 1 / Elocater 1 / Erudite 1 / Elocater 1 / Erudite 1 / Elocater 1 / Erudite 1 / Elocater 1 / Erudite 1
Totals:
Erudite levels: 11
Elocater levels: 9
Manifester level: 17

Conjurer with the instant hop variant might be what you are looking for. Zip across and flurry of blows.

Monk 19/Conjurer 1 (hopping variant) with the Carmadine Monk/King Fu Genius feat

Hmm, I'm not looking to be a full on monk, the character is very primary caster, and yet I'm willing to make him secondary caster until epic levels so he catches up. The monk abilities are there mostly for fluff, allowing him to step in melee if necessary to deliver a few attacks. (low power points, or to deliver touch spells/powers and the like)

I've found that Erudite with Spell to Power variant is REALLY AWESOME.. but.. unfortunately, the limited amount of unique powers cripples the character too much. How would I get more powers/day?

EDIT: OH DURRHURRHURR. I'm an idiot. it's unique powers each LEVEL each day. So like, 5 1sts, 5 2nds, 5 3rds.. etc.. at say, level 8. Oi vey.

Archivist is available in an excerpt. Psychic Theurge is online, also. Ardent is in Complete Psionic.

You're probably better off with the Erudite build. I would still consider taking Tashalatora from Secrets of Sarlona, if you want more monk abilities, though.

Hmm, while I was reading it before I thought there was something funny, but now I realize that these are all divine caster/manifester mixes. I'm not looking for a Divine caster at all. :/ Thanks though!

One class I'd recommend is the Chronorebel from the 3rd-party book Hyperconscious. It's exactly based around manipulating time (culminating in the ability to travel through time at level 10).

Maybe something like:
  • Monk 1/Ardent 4/Chronorebel 5/Suel Arcanamach 2/Cerebremancer 8

(not necessarily in that order).

What's the difference? Archivists are basically the "wizards" of the divine casters (they even keep a spellbook), and they can cast any divine spell. That includes all domain spells, which means it basically includes every spell in existence.

The difference is I dont want a divine caster, or divine spells, for the character is not a divine caster. I need arcane spells for the character archetype. Also, Archivist uses wisdom, while Psions and most other Psionics use Intelligence - which is the character's chief stat.

You could replace Ardent with Psion/Erudite/Wilder/whatever. But as PhaedrusXY was alluding to, the Ardent chooses which powers he can learn based on his manifester level (which can be increased by taking the feat Practised Manifester) rather than based on his levels in psion/erudite/wilder/whatever. So a level 13 Ardent/level 7 monk (say) with the feat Practised Manifester would be able to learn 9th level powers (because he has a manifester level of 17).

So in essence, I could grab Ardent, a couple levels of monk and elocator and just go to town?

EDIT : It is a good character, and I appreciate all this help it's really awesome. I'm starting to feel I cant make the character in DnD though, as it's been better represented in others. (RIFTS, Temporal Wizard and MAGE) I've just wanted to stab them into DnD for so long it's just hard to do -well-.

I imagine that Monk 1/Nomad 4/Chronorebel 10 would do about 90% of what you want, but maybe I'm just misinterpreting what your concept is.

Thats about right, though the DMs I have -hate- third party, and barely allow psionics as it is. :/ I took a look at Chronorebel, and I must say that I like a lot of the powers in it..they're pretty fantastic. I'd probably balk at taking the last level of Chronorebel, since the character would know better than to use that last power to go back in time and muck stuff up. (he follows the Edict pretty sharply). After Chronorebel I could probably start hammering into Elocator, or go back and forth between them to optimize Manifester levels.

However I need to get some Wizard spells in there - primarly the token ones that stand out the most (resist planar alignment, haste, slow, etc, as he is quite the planeswalker hopping from world to world) So I'd have to go Erudite. The query with that is -- Are PrCs considered 'psionic' classes that fuzz up the 'learn powers' limit? The PrCs are there to improve your existing class.. and not take out that staple power of learning powers. Since it adds to the manifester level.. wouldnt it just mean the Erudite would count for whatever it's equivalent should be?

by the way, whats that Mode.. bonus.. thingy?

Monk 1, Erudite 4, Chronorebel 9, Elocator 6 (It fits Time, Space, Martial arts and necessary Arcane magic right there, pretty well) But unfortunately I'm losing 4 Manifester levels thanks to Elocator *fistshake* leaving me without level 9 powers. I SUPPOSE though, I dont need -all- of Elocator, since the first few powers are what are really attractive, and Chronorebel covers the other powers I happen to like. (Backslip, and Timestream or whathaveyou) and only the 1st and 10th levels of Chronorebel drop caster level, and I'm omitting the last level of Chronorebel even if it is a pretty nice power)

Since learning psionic teleport and psionic plane shift at level 6 are moot for an erudite who gets only x number of unique powers/level/day, it's a waste to go that much further it seems. Dimension step is out of the unique powers/day schism so it works well.

This is shaping up pretty well now, with all your gracious encyclopedic aid!

Monk 1, Erudite 4, Chronorebel 9, Elocator 4. (ML 15) So from here, I either choose yet another PrC that gives constant, straight manifester level so I get level 9 powers by level 20 or take more Erudite. Thoughts?

If there are only a few wizard spells you "need" to have, don't forget that psions can research custom powers (with the DM's permission, of course). So you could play a psion and still have psionic versions of Haste, Slow, etc. If I were a DM, that'd be at least as palatable to me as the Spell to Power erudite option!

P.S. The "mode" stuff in Hyperconscious has to do with "mindscape combat" (an option that your DM can safely ignore if he doesn't like it).

Well, the only thing I found that could work is Ghostbreaker, a 5-level PrC in Hyperconscious. It seems a touch cheesy however, with it's Fighter BaB and Manifester progression, along with basically giving you Turn/Destroy undead without being a cleric. Though it's a promising aspect should I go for it.

The next thing I need to figure out are appropriate feats. Obviously for Elocator I will need Dodge, Mobility, and Spring attack. Imprint Stone will be invaluable, and obviously Practiced Manifester. I do want to take Craft Universal Item, since there is some item creation to be done (and with Spell to Power, I can make DMG type psionic items) as well as Extra Unique power.

In epic levels, I could feasably take more Elocator and the last Chronorebel power, since Manifester level doesnt increase(?) after 20th? There's something off with epic psionics is all. Either that, or hit a level of Swordsage for 5th level maneuvers.

Here's my current sorta feat lineup..

1 Dodge, Kungfu Genius (Monk 1) Improved Unarmed Strike, Improved Grapple
2 (Erudite 1) Psicrystal Affinity, (Spell to Power)
3 Mobility
6 Spring Attack (Elocator 1), Sidestep Charge
7 (Erudite 5) - Craft Universal Item?
9 Practiced Manifester
12 Extra Unique Power
15 Imprint Stone
18 ?

I'm looking to make him have -some- crafting ability, since it's part of the character. Since he'll have spell to power, he'll be able to make certain DMG related items 'custom' with Craft Universal Item, by using the 'spell powers'.

Here's the suggested level makeup. I keep feeling I should have stuck out another monk level for another bonus feat and evasion (and the BaB and +1 to all saves..) but that'd lose me my level 9 powers pre-epic thanks to the missing manifester levels from Chronorebel and Elocator.

Levels
1 Monk 1
2 Erudite 1
3 Erudite 2
4 Erudite 3
5 Erudite 4
6 Elocator 1

From here I am not sure where to go, and when to progress the classes. There's some number crunching, and I've found my BaB is pathetically low - despite being able to buff it up with offensive precognition in case I need to hit. The question is should I hold off the last two (sad sad) levels of Erudite until the last two levels, or should I cram Erudite 5 in there somewhere amidst it all to get the bonus feat (which is almost inconsequential to easily use..)

The other option is to slap the last level of Erudite 5 in there before I go into my PrCs, in this fashion -

Monk 1, Erudite 1-5, Elocator 1-2, Chronorebel 1-2, Elocator 3, Chronorebel 3, Elocator 4, Chronorebel 4-9, Erudite 6.

With that I keep my early super fragility a bit longer, but I wont get mugged up later on, and will have higher level powers sooner to back up anytime I would get into melee. Aided by items and spells/powers I'm pretty sure I can serve my intended role until the BaB catches up. The only reason I'm not putting Erudite 6 before the PrCs is because I want those PrC abilities sooner in my career. Backslip and Precognition +1 will make me better with hitting later on, when I'll need it more. (Lower level monsters have lower AC, and I'll likely be able to hit with Strength buffs and Precog should I really need it.)

I think jamming in Elocator as fast as I can to get their Flanking/Opportunistic strike bonuses as soon as possible is what will allow me to continue to hit with some amount of regularity, and deliver powers at the same time. Of course, an Amulet of mighty fists will help with that too.

Chronorebel and Elocator both have Rogue BaB progression, and d6 HP, so I'm obviously quite fragile, (aside from the d4s from Erudite, ech) and need that high AC and the precog powers, inertial armor, etc to keep standing. Thankfully I rolled a decent Con. My teleports are there to keep me from being surrounded or in god-awful situations, as well as Timeless for that one round jump I need to get the hell out. This build would work a lot better with fractional BaB progression, though I doubt I'm going to get that outta my games!

Now what on earth is my level 18 feat gonna be? Any help here with the number crunching is appreciated.

EDIT 1: Stats are - Str 14, Dex 16, Con 16, Int 18, Wis 14, Cha 12 Before level adjusts, but they're going to all be pumped straight into Int, to ramp up my AC, Bonus Power points, and Power strength. Tomes and intellect items will be used to further increase my Int score to really boost him higher, as well as augmented inertial armor and precognitive defense.

EDIT 2: I can always just bite the bullet and take two levels of Ghostbreaker, with it's d8 HP, Fighter BaB, Good Fort and Will saves, Turn undead as a cleric (equal to manifester level) and a nifty raze-undead power. It also has +1 Manifester level each level. The sorely needed HP and BaB is probably a lot more attractive than the Erudite levels at this point -- and I'm sure to face undead in games I'll play.

Erudite gets Psicrystal affinity, and a bonus feat at 1st level. Pg 155 of Complete Psionic. The Bonus feat is replaced by Spell to Power.

And 6th level error -- Crap. >.< I guess Ghostbreaker is my best recourse at this point, to get into Elocator at level 7. The character has to fight numerous astral and ethereal beings anyhow when he constantly hops through dimensions and planes, so I suppose having some defense against the lesser forces will make sense.

--- Ah crap that needs +3 BaB too. Now what to do? Two levels of Chronorebel to get that BaB.. I dont want to take more Erudite if I can get Ghostbreaker in there. Now I see why fractional BaB is frowned on in most circles -- you get into PrCs you shouldnt a lot faster!

EDIT: And I neglected to notice I need Speed of Thought to get into Chronorebel. *retool* My DMs allow UA, and I knew I was taking a flaw somewhere, so now just to figure out what that flaw -is-, or somehow manage to reorganize the feats.

Whee! Thankyou, silly, silly me. Elocator is super-super in theme for the character, what with it's abilities and everything, so I really want to include it badly(Floating, dimensional flanking, opportunistic strike, sidestep charge..). Elocator will have to come a little later, then. No problem.

Level? At very least 10th.

I figure I will take the monk fighting style 'Passive Way' to give me +2 to Bluff, and Combat Expertise instead of Improve Grapple. It's yet another way to improve my AC in a fight -- or would you all suggest Denying stance and just stick with Improved grapple? (it's only 1 level of Monk anyhow)

Ah, Excellent! I didnt need stunning fist or improved grapple anyways. That frees up a feat slot nicely.

1 Monk 1 - (Cobra Strike) Kungfu Genius, Dodge, Mobility
2 Erudite 1 - Psicrystal Affinity, (Spell to Power, Replaces Bonus Feat)
3 Erudite 2 - Speed of Thought
4 Erudite 3
5 Erudite 4
6 Chrnrbl 1 - Extra Unique Power or Practiced Manifester
7 Chrnrbl 2
8 GhstBkr 1
9 Elocator1 - Spring Attack, Sidestep Charge
10 Elocator2
11 Chrnrbl 3
12 Elcator 3 - Extra Unique Power or Practiced Manifester
13 Elcator 4
14 Chrnrbl 4
15 Chrnrbl 5 - Feat
16 Chrnrbl 6
17 Chrnrbl 7
18 Chrnrbl 8 - Feat

Looking it over I thought so at first, but it doesnt really apply to PrCs like these as the +1 to existing level adds to the Erudite's level, thusly improving the Erudite's effective level and removing that clause. That clause is in there to prevent multiclassing with other psionic classes and still paying miniscule amounts of XP to learn the powers by expending XP. If they are Erudite levels (as if I had gained a level in that class, as PrCs tend to work) I am still paying my effective Erudite level in XP to learn a new power. (So when I have say, Erudite 4, and 6 other levels of PrC with manifester level in them, my Erudite level is 10 and must pay 200xp for new powers.)

A few feats up for use are -
Quicken Power
Extend Power (Those Precog buffs would be better if they lasted a bit longer)
Psionic Meditation
Psionic Dodge
Weapon Focus:Unarmed (This is debatable though, it might not be worth it, with all the boosting and tactics I'll be using to further up my to-hit when needed)
Craft Universal Item (if I can craft similar wondrous items with the spells I learn)
Craft Cognizance Crystal (Though I could probably easily BUY them)
Imprint Stone (Basically Scrolls? I might really need this for all the powers I'll have)
Transdimensional Power - For the flavor, but I severely doubt it's needed with all the dimensional powers/spells I'll be taking
Power Penetration - For the Obvious reasons
--Greater Power Penetration - For those real toughies
Twinned Power (For that pretty nifty dissipating touch '64 strikes' combination that approximates martial arts strikes to Chakra points. I dont go towards Anime often, but it's a pretty cool idea making it like that. Disposable Hero wrote it up for Hyuuga Neji here- http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=8536504&postcount=71 And is at least an interesting read.)

These are the only possible feats I can think of after going through a few lists. If I've missed anything..feel free to comment.

Hmm, after chatting extensively with Carnivore in PMs, I'm starting to feel less and less interested in Elocator. Also, reading the other posts makes me feel like the three feats to get into it are also scarcely worth the effort -- Especially when I have so much more to gain with Chronorebel an full levels of Ghostbreaker.

Tenser's Transformation is another useful idea to beef up any melee I might need to do, especially if it comes in the Erudite Spell to Power form.

If I take more Ghostbreaker and forsake Elocater, I'll get more BaB, HP, and wont lose out on a manifester level. It'll also set me up for a stronger Epic build progression, and allow me to get Chronorebel's unique and interesting powers sooner. (Hyperconscious has a lot of very, very interesting powers)

Elocator has 6+Int skills, and a -lot- of class skills which are interesting..but, I dont think I need to be -that- much of a skill monkey when the character is more knowledgable and less rogue-like. Still, I'll have to play around with the builds and see where they end up..
The staying factor for Elocator still sits in it's high number of class skills and skill points (Int will be huge, and human sooo...) , Scorn earth and Sidestep charge (both really cool abilities. Scorn earth I think I'll miss most along with one other) Dimension step (eh, free psionic dim door 1/day, not that big) Opportunistic strike (pretty nifty ability, works well with the fact he's a 'secondary' melee-er, and a 'caster' type beforehand..but no real big loss since I'm not taking full Elocator anyhow) And Flanker (the ability I will miss the most -- it allows you to flank from a square -you- designate, which is all space-bendy and I like it. I'll figure it out some other way. Being able to flank is awesome -- but Elocator smells more to me like a rogue/psion class now than anything, and is splitting my focus too far)

1 Monk 0 BaB, 0 ML 1d8 HD
4 Erudite 2 BaB, 4 ML 4d4 HD
9 Chronorebel 6 BaB, 8 ML 9d6 HD
5 Ghostbreaker 5 BaB, 5 ML 5d8 HD
1 Level ??? ? BaB, ? ML ?d? HD

20 13 BaB, 17 ML

If I go like this (not in that order though) I still have another level to play with :X And I gotta completely rechoose my feats again, too.. haha. If I nabbed the last level of Chronorebel I'd have more BaB before level 21, but 1 less manifester level. (The capstone feels like such an epic level ability anyways..) but if I bit it and went with another Erudite.. I'd get a feat, a ML, and no BaB boost. I dont think there are any other choices really, especially with the shiny feat and ML dangling there (and faster powers)

Chronorebel's 'go back in time from 17 days to 500 x ML years max' power still screams epic to me so I'd like to stave off that until 21..to sorta commemerate the 'bam it's epic time'-ness of the class. :x

So I can fool around with monastic training and talashalota ..however it's spelled.. and put it on Chronorebel likely, and summarily boost my monkly abilities.. wear a monk's belt.. possibly snag Superior unarmed strike from ToB.. amongst other things. I'll probably want to get more metapsionic feats though, so that's only if I have room in it.

Lastly I could take -two- monk levels instead of just one, giving me evasion, +1 BaB, +1 to all saves, and another bonus feat (combat reflexes?). I'd still have 9th level powers at level 19, or I could take Erudite and get them at 18. Also, these levels all leave me needing to 'waste' less PP on Vigor, and save it for more necessary powers, and using a different unique power per day.

Oh Erudite, it's like playing Starcraft and using resource management. CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS.

Ooh, good catch with Tenser's Transformation - it says only that you can't cast spells and doesn't forbid you to manifest powers. So you totally sidestep its limitation.

Yeah, that kinda got me a little excited when I found it :D

A couple extra PP, but no need for a material component either.

There is an interesting feat in Hyperconscious that looks like it could be useful for not as much me (unless there is a particular must-have metapsionic feat that I could spam every round) but for psychic warriors and psionic weapon/fist.

Permanent Focus - Prereq Narrow Mind.

You count as permanently focused for the purposes of gaining the benefits of one psionic feat(which you already have) of your choice. This feat may be taken multiple times, each time pertaining to another psionic feat.

Bump. Been very busy lately, no time to play with builds. Should I start a new thread with the newer build in place? This one's title is very outdated considering the advancement I've made.
