i asked this on the rules counceling board but thought it also appropriate for here
A few people in my game are argueing on an acspect of the monks belt.
it says "you gain the ac of a 5th level monk. this ac bonus functions just like the monks ac bonus."

they want to argue that for a non monk, this allows you to add wis to ac. i disagree personally, but want others input. has this been addressed in some errata already?
what is the general concensus of how this works?

Read the Monk's ability "AC Bonus" This is how the belt works.

i could be incorrect, but the way i read it, you get the +1 ac bonus, and that +1 functions as the ac bonus of a monk ie it applies to touch attacks ect.

the question here is by "AC bonus of a 5th lvl monk" are they intened the wis bonus to be there? i dont think so, but like i said im putting it here to get some intelligent input either way

This way you can read the monk description before wasting more of our time.

Simply because I fear you have reading issues and won't be able to find the monk class on the srd...

AC Bonus (Ex)
When unarmored and unencumbered, the monk adds her Wisdom bonus (if any) to her AC. In addition, a monk gains a +1 bonus to AC at 5th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every five monk levels thereafter (+2 at 10th, +3 at 15th, and +4 at 20th level).

These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the monk is flat-footed. She loses these bonuses when she is immobilized or helpless, when she wears any armor, when she carries a shield, or when she carries a medium or heavy load.

Who cares if its 9,000 gold more than an item that does the same thing, it must work the way I read it!

Monk's AC bonus is WIS+1/5level. Thus, you get WIS+1 with the same restrictions as a Monk (no armour, sheild etc). The FAQ supports this reading.

There is no concensus since there is no one saying it only adds +1 and not Wis too. It adds (Wisdom+1) to AC. That is the official way it works and the only way to read the ability by RAW.

Wouldn't that mean consensus? Everyone agrees that it works a particular way?

Either way, it's in the FAQ.

Either way, it's in the FAQ.

...and before someone notes how we've bashed the FAQ in the past, that was because it was wrong. This time it's not.
