Every time I go to play a wizard, something happens to paralyze me with indecision. Simply put, which to specialize in between conjuration and Transmutation when playing a god wizard.

I'm not asking for anyone to choose for me, I just ask: How do you decide between these two schools of mighty?

It depends on what role you want to play. Buffer? Transmutation. Everything else? Conjuration. But never drop either of these schools, as they rock hard.

I'd alter that slightly to: Specialize in Conjuration and just don't drop Transmutation. ;)

More seriously, specializing gives you one extra slot for the day, and if you're going to be using both schools it doesn't matter for that which one you choose. Conjuration, however, has more useful spells (as in, a higher number of useful spells, not better spells) and the ever-popular Abrupt Jaunt, so I pick Conjuration over Transmutation every time I want to use specialty-related PrCs or alternate abilities.

Pre-Complete Mage, I usually specialised in Diviner (only lost 1 school).

Post Complete Mage, it is Conjurer all the way for me. The reason is the Unearthed Arcana summoning subs + Focused Specialist + Malconvoker combo is just too good to pass up...

if i'm playing from low levels on, I always take conjuration. If starting at mid-level or high, i would take trans.

Basically, conjuration is best early-mid and trans is best in high, but i wouldn't sacrifice more power in the first 2/3 of the game if I started low level as you need to survive to get to high levels I hope that made sense.
