| #1sorlenMar 01, 2011 16:56:40 | I have searched my books. I have searched online. Aside from a couple of spells (Choking Cobwebs, Sinking Cloud) I can't find too many ways to inflict the nauseated condition. Does anyone have any ideas? |

The only way I think you're missing from the non-epic SRD is swarm distraction effects. The only other nonmagical source I've seen are alchemical items. The Eberron Campaign Setting has noxious smokesticks, which are a poor man's Stinking Cloud (assuming you have a way of remotely lighting them; Unseen Servant is a good choice here). Drow of the Underdark has a nausea-inducing injury poison, but the DC is only 12. Expedition to Castle Ravenloft had an interesting alchemical item called ipecac, which induces vomiting: it can be used to get a +5 save on ingested poison secondary damage, plus it can be used to escape monsters that Swallow Whole; doing so nauseates the monster for 1d4 rounds. What are you trying to do with it? You might be able to get alternatives. If you're looking to remove a target from combat for a while, I'll see what I can dig up; I used to play a wizard with that as his main method of offense. In the meantime I'd suggest looking into stunning; it's similar and far more common than nausea. |

I wanted to use the condition to make the players nearly helpless, but not completely so, as would stunning or paralyzing. I already planned to use swarms, but was specifically looking for spells or something I was missing, but thanks for that as well. I really appreciate your help! It's hard to keep things fresh and interesting in a high level game. |

Any description is from Treantmonk's guide for wizards Conjuration 1st Level Wall of Smoke (SpC): (BC)::evillaugh Do not be deceived by the name. This “wall” is 10’ thick and you can place it over your enemies. It is your “fog” spell of choice for 1st level spells since the wall also includes a Fort save or be nauseated for a round as an added bonus. 2nd Level Cloud of Bewilderment (SpC): (Debuff/BC): 10’ spread nauseates those within (on failed fort save) until they leave the cloud at which point they are still nauseated for 1d4+1 rounds afterwards. The cloud also offers concealment. This is basically stinking cloud, mini. Decent spell – but the area is small (yes it can be shaped though).3rd Level Stinking Cloud (PHB): (Debuff/BC)::evillaugh As cloud of Bewilderment but 20’ radius spread. That is a vastly improved area making this a very solid spell. The Fort save negation means that unless you can target multiple weaker opponents with this – you shouldn’t bother. Nauesating Breath (SpC): 7th Level Choking cobwebs (CM): (BC/Debuff): With a single casting, you basically get web with a chance to sicken those inside (with a failed fort save). A second casting of the same spell however is pretty severe. Movement becomes much more hindered – and those within make Fort save every round or are nauseated and take 1d4 Con damage (unlike cloudkill – no immunity to poison immune to the effect). Naturally, you want to keep throwing up movement inhibitors after this – summoning/evard’s whatever will keep them there until their con drains to 0. With a 1 min/level duration – you have time.Necromancy 4th Level Burning Blood (SpC): (Double threat Blast/Debuff): Target a single creature, for 1 round/level they make a Fort save. Any round in which they fail their Fort save they take 1d8 fire and acid damage, and they can only take a move action. Making your save doesn’t end the spell. I love spells that keep screwing your enemies for rounds after the spell is cast. If making your save once ended this spell – it would ruin it. Fortunately, that’s not the case.Finger of agony (CM): (Double threat Blast/Debuff)::thumbsdow For 3 rounds the creature takes 3d6 damage and is nauseated. On a successful Fort save the damage is halved and the condition reduced to sickened. Not a terrible spell, but probably too high a level for the effect. Horrid Sickness (CM): (Debuff)::thumbsdow Multiple targets are nauseated if they fail their Fort save for 1 round/level. After the first round, a second save can reduce the effect to sickened (move action for a chance at a save – you do get a move when nauseated). More precise than Stinking Cloud with a somewhat lessened effect. This should probably be an equal level to the aforementioned. 6th Level Fleshshiver (SpC): (double threat Debuff/Blast): In the first round the target makes a Fort save or is stunned for the round. If their HD is equal or less than your CL they are stunned with no save (nice). On the following round they make a second Fort save (regardless of first round save result) and if they fail they take 1d6/level (max 15d6) damage and are nauseated for 1d4+2 rounds. Targeting Fort is weak – but the target must make 2 saves which redeems this spell nicely. Solid debuff.8th Level Blackfire (SpC): (Debuff): There are also some bard spells in the Spell Compedium that nauesate, but they are all sound related. |
| #5bigtunaMar 03, 2011 5:48:57 | Have a Binder 9/Knight of the sakred seal5 sidekick that binds Astaroth - the fallen angel - with a +cha race (that would gang up with your BBEG), feats: imp binding, ability focus (astaroths breath), favored vestige (Astroth) +favorit vestige focus +rapid recovery, and sudden ability focus if you want to be mean.. Se Astaroth here: www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/200... Gives you a nice little sidekick that makes a cone shaped nausiating effect the first 2 rounds of combat - and even if they make the save they are still sickened... The side kick also buffes your BBEG and can bind 2 other vestiges for more fun... |
| #6sorlenMar 03, 2011 12:36:38 | As expected from this board, great advice! Many thanks for the suggestions and the info. I am humbled, Phoenix, by your thoroughness. I like to think of my Google-fu as above average, but I see I missed much. |
