necropolitan question

Nov 08, 2008 20:55:04 if my char was a necropolitan, at what lvl/amount of exp would i be equal with the rest of the party?
(since it isn't actually lvl adjustment, i just loose a lvl, i should eventually catch up to them, i think , correct me if i'm wrong)

However, that is good news for you. You gain experience faster than your party mates for a while. But yeah, you'll catch up to them.

There are rules for leveling when you are behind the party you can find them in the dmg...

They are on page 38 in the DMG, but I believe rules about gaining experience were specifically excluded from the SRD.

It depends entirely on when you gain the template and how your DM does XP from disparate levels.

The earliest you can do the transformation is Level 4 (if you try it at level 3, it destroys your body). That put's you 4,000xp behind everyone else.

If you're DM doesn't give out varying XP, you'll catch (and lose) them on every level that has greater than 4k difference between them. That means you'll catch back up to 5th before they hit 6th, but they'll level to 6th before you. You'll catch back up before they re-level, only to lose them again 2k xp later. This pattern will continue all the way up.

If you're DM gives XP 'by the book', with no 'story' or other 'flat' awards, you've got to do some math to figure out when you'll catch them. If you still have the 4,000xp deficit, it looks to me like you'll make up that entire difference (depending on when you level and how often) some time before level 7, but, as above, you'll catch and lose them several times in that process (which is why the math is hard).
