what would be the best ways to optimize these spells, is there any specific class that would be good? (i'm thinking Dread Necro), important feats/metamagic, items, etc? I've been looking through my books and this seems to be the best way to have permanent control over something, although if you know of better ways, please tell, as i basically just want a char who can have an unlimited amount of slaves.

thanks in advance

That's basically the best way. That and undead, especially Animate Dread Warrior if you can get it as a SLA. Necrotic Cyst works well for having a permanent tough body to use Magic Jar on, also. Just tell him to never resist.

ok, i thought it was the best, but i wasn't sure.

now i just need to make sure the guy fails his fort save, normally i'd just go for the basic spell focus and greater spell focus, but since i'm playing in an optimized group, i want to be optimized (as far as this char concept will go), and in my experience, the basic way is never the best way.

so yeah, any tips on how to increase the DC, spells casting time, long range control, inter-planar control (if possible), etc. would be very much appreciated

Fear. Shaken gives a -2 to saves, and your Fear Aura gets that very easily.

Unlimited slaves is the thrallherd PrC from the Expanded Psionic Handbook. Works like leadership, but you get a replacement cohort in 24 hours.

Hexblade cohort? If you can get a cohort that stacks Hexblade, etc. that would be helpful.

Raising DC isn't very hard. Just stack Shaken/Sickened/Hexblade's Dark Companion/Paladin of Slaughter's Aura, use Doomspeak, take Snowcasting, Draconic Aura (Energy:Cold), Cold Focus, Greater Cold Focus, 4 levels in Fatespinner, Shadow Weave Magic, etc. Oh, and landing Unluck is a good idea. Heighten Spell + Earth Spell can also help, of course.

There really are quite a few ways to raise the DC (effectively).

Tell us what your party contains and what they can do, and I'll elaborate on your optimal choices. Getting an unbeatable DC is very much possible.

My favorite thing to do with necrotic cyst is to create a murder of crows that fly above me all the time. When I see an enemy, I send a kamikaze crow (or 2 or 3) at them and cast necrotic eruption. Exploding crows will surely add some flavor to any necromancer build.
As for the likelihood of successful infections, I’d recommend Dreadful Wrath (PGtF p.38) and Brutal Strike (PHB2 p.76) feats if you are going for a melee dread necromancer.

Archmage for Arcane Reach could be handy, so you can use Necrotic Cyst at range. I played one once as a Cytoplast Manipulator like from Ravnica.

i'm sorry i should have mentioned this, anything i do must be done solo as my DM hates leadership (plus would actually screw the story in this case), and while the party might accidentally do something to lower enemy saves, i can't count on it, and i can't let them know what i'm doing (being evil) since they're good

I the vglcat master of being so stupid it's funny, have decided that this thread has not met the manditory amount of posts that don't help very much. I havecome to remmedy this problem with my stupid comments and spelling errers (like that one!:D ).

very good witigo but i think you can do better. try cows, much better than crows. (another option would be sheep:D)

i apoligize to all of the peoples i "insulted" quote on quote (cause i insulted you) but also to the people i didn't insult (cause you weren't grazed by my mispelled insults):D

Doesn't the Necrotic Cyst line require Mother Cyst, which requires non-spontaneous casting? Can't recall if Dread Necros are prep or spontaneous though.

I'm reading Mother cyst and I can't find where it says this.
Mother cyst reads:
"You cast these spells like any other spell you can cast, once you host a mother cyst (if you are a caster who prepares spells, you can prepare all necrotic cyst spells without referring to a spellbook, as if you had the Spell Mastery feat for each such spell)."

I believe this line allows for either spontaneous or preparation casting. Its not in the preqs either so I'm confused.

My bad. Must have had it confused with Sacred/Profane(Sanctified/Corrupt? I believe AftS hurts you every day you hold it in memory) spells. Still, only Cleric/Sorc/Wiz and anyone who can get spells from such classes' lists, I guess.

I have a hammer-and everything looks like a nail.
So does your problem.
I say cleric with the Magic and Spell domain, and the Inscribe Rune feat.
Runes are cheap traps, and can be made using Divine spells.
Spell Domain gives access to any arcane spell 5th or lower.
Acquire a copy of Lesser Planar Binding, or Lesser Spirit Binding, set a summoning room, full of Rune traps, and go to town.
Debuff the hell out of them at your leisure, and hit them with the cyst.
Use the horde of low HD minions from your planar bindings to gain loots, buy a scroll of Greater Planar Binding, and go to town.
I recommend getting Spirit Binding for the Incorporeal Undead you can call with it.Very tasty.
One last thing. Get the Shadow Domain for the Shades spell, and cast that, emulating greater planar binding on your self.
I you are not an asimar, use Feindform first, in order to be counted as an outsider.
The result is a Copy of you. Since you are evil, do your self in before it's too late, and encyst that dupe'.One of the few times I would recommend Cooperative Spell.

Say, does an unconscious creature get to resist? I have always heard that they cannot, but I haven't seen the actual rule.

thank you ronyon, that should help as long as my DM agrees on outsiders as being "alive", although i definitly won't be able to use it on undead

Nah, the undead are a bonus, easily controlled via rebuking.
I a currently walking around with 1/2 a dozen Ghostly Visages melded with me.
I use them to multiply my Dragons Breath spell.
At CL 14 that makes for 49 d8 acid damage.Every 1d4 rounds.

:D Yeah, and Im a lightweight!
Btw, everything I say should be taken with a bag of salt, since I am addicted to Clerics and undead.
Im actualy trying to play a Binder/Beguiler, and it's hard to deal with a new focus.I will be taking the Mother cyst Feat, so perfect minions will be mine!
Eventually. Im used to minions by 5th a the latest

This was also going to be my suggestion: beat something into submission and then you don't have to worry as much about save DCs. It's a little bit trickier to do it without the rest of your party noticing, though.

if its true about the no save when unconcious (i did a quick look, probably missed it), then my current idea would work perfectly.

i plan on being a lawful good control freak cleric, with all good stuff except for the necrotic stuff, i know this rules out many options but it means i can use exalted feats, specifically vow of nonviolence, which not only gives me a +4 to the DC of cyst and tumor (no damage), but gives me a perfect excuse for beating the enemy unconcious, and stops the rest of the party killing my "friends".

i know this is not the best possible outcome, but it does give a nice number of excuses for not killing things, and who am i to argue with them when they want to follow me and take my orders.

so what do u think of my weird combo of LM feats and BOED feats?, and is this char any good?

Unconscious characters still get Saves. Even Reflex saves. Something about Reflex being "Luck as well as how well you avoid.". Naturally Fortitude and Willpower don't just switch off just because you're unconscious.

This is so bizarre. Do dead people (-10 HP or lower) get saves? Aren't they more-or-less equivalent to the unconscious person from a willpower stand point? I can't find where it says unconscious players get saves so do we need to assume that dead players get saves as well?

Here's the confusing line:
"Some spells restrict you to willing targets only. Declaring yourself as a willing target is something that can be done at any time (even if you’re flat-footed or it isn’t your turn). Unconscious creatures are automatically considered willing, but a character who is conscious but immobile or helpless (such as one who is bound, cowering, grappling, paralyzed, pinned, or stunned) is not automatically willing."

So does that mean that unconscious characters are willing to fail any saving throw, or just saving throws against spells that target the willing?

Nevertheless, it's easier to cast the same spell over and over again on someone who's unconscious rather than, say, trying to move around and stuff.

Neither. It means you can cast spells on them that specify they only work on "willing targets", like Teleport. If they're not willing, you can't cast those spells on them at all.

By the way, except for Necrotic Awareness, any of the other Necrotic spells would automatically slam you out of Exalted status. Funnily enough, the Mother Cyst doesn't actually require you to be evil.
