Why are you caring? 2d8 to 2d10 only gives you +2 damage - something that is not worth the extra expense. Especially because the monk's tattoo (which is the third booster) is very expensive. (Incidentally, it's also not worth getting a monk's belt as a monk. It usually amounts to +2 damage and +1 AC for about half the gold you have available at your level. When it is worthwhile is when you're playing a Wisdom-based non-monk.) You'll have bigger problems working with monk than simply trying to get the damage up there. |
| #3THELAWLOct 16, 2012 10:21:24 | once i get to 2d10 at monk 20 my increases in size account for more damage. form my mighty wallop ring and improved unarmed strength. |
| #4radicaltaoistOct 16, 2012 11:13:53 | I assume you mean the Improved Natural Attack feat taken for Unarmed Strikes? Less monk levels, more size increases: Ditch some levels in monk for psychic warrior, take the Expansion power, and see if you can grab the Tashalatora feat from Secrets of Sarlona. |
| #5The_FredOct 16, 2012 13:49:14 | Potion of Enlarge Person? Or better, just a Wizard who can do it for you? |
| #6frost.fireOct 16, 2012 19:22:10 | Why bother with size increases when your already talking greater might whallop? |

Things that do monk better than a monk: Psychic Warrior, Erudite, Adept, Unarmed Swordsage, Barbarian, Cleric and I'm sure I could make other classes do better as well. |
| #8The_FredOct 17, 2012 16:57:10 | Armed Swordsage, Warblade, Crusader, Wizard, Wu Jen, Totemist, Fighter, Ranger, Druid... yup, it goes on. ;) I actually like Monks a lot. They do get a lot of stick, and I'm not sure they deserve all of it (read: all). The problem is that they're quite situation-dependant, in a manner of speaking. In a one-on-one fight, they're often pretty awesome. How many times does that happen in a typical party game, though? |
| #9Andarious-RosethornOct 17, 2012 23:42:32 | Monks have a few major issues. 1/day abilities (Yuck), MAD (fixable through feats, but then feat starved), postion dependant with only bonus speed to fix that (thus limiting them to a generally unspecialized charge attack at least once or twice per combat). Fix the majority or all of those things (read here: Be a Swordsage) and Monk's an awesome class. I love the flavor and even the defensive schtick. The problem is, in a game that uses a party system being fairly hard to kill and or pin down isn't enough, you need to be able to accomplish something offensively. As monks are designed with 3/4 BAB and a desire to have 5 high stats they have a hard time doing the whole offense thing without sacrificing a lot of their defense (which they can afford, actually). |
| #10awaken_D_M_golemOct 18, 2012 16:49:39 | To paraphrase the '60s feminists, you "... Need 3 more Monk levels ..." like a Fish Needs A Magic Bicycle. |
| #11LashiusOct 18, 2012 22:45:08 | Gauntlets of the talon from complete divine might help, there a relic of Bahamut and if our a monk they basically work as a monks belt, and they explicitly say that they stack with a monks belt as well. They may have been erratad however, I'm not sure. |

| #13LashiusOct 19, 2012 8:51:59 | That would be an affirmative slagger. I just checked it out, however the price difference is rather large starting with 4,000 gp for the MIC gauntlets which don't stack and the CD gauntlets which cost 20,000 and do stack. Perhaps the DM would allow the higher priced Gauntlets to be a "Greater" version of the regular ones? Otherwise there is the tattoo tempest already mentioned, which is a bit pricey in and of itself. Only other thing I could think to suggest is to take 3 levels of fist of the forest which would get you 2 out of the 3 levels your looking for, plus some rather cool benefits on the side. |
