| #1shockwave33Jul 01, 2009 4:52:19 | I recently made a character for DnD 3.5 with the hope of making a balanced Character of both RP uses and Combat uses. Basically, He is a Balcksmith, using cleric class, who uses his divine magic to improve his melee and crafting. Character wise he does not veiwe himself as a cleric, but only as a blacksmith for the crafting gods (Pantheon invented by DM). At level three he was very successful in combat, but i have bad luck when it comes maintaining the balance in higher charcters. I want to make this charcter for two reasons because i like the idea of an @%% kicking blacksmith and to show a powerplayer (im certain you all know the minmax type) that you can incorperate RP and combat together. here is his build Character: Smith Classes: Cleric Level:3 Race:Human Alignment:nuetral Religion:CRS Inc Experience:5635 Hit Points: 25 Base Attack Bonus: +2 Strength: 17 Dexterity: 15 Constitution: 15 Intelligence: 15 Wisdom: 16 Charisma: 15 Fortitude: =5 Reflex: =4 Will:=7 Initiative: =2 Melee: [1d8+5/1d6+5] = Gnomish Hook Hammer Money: gp999 – sp85 – Armor Class: 7+ 10 + = 17 Feats: Two Weapon Fighting; craft wonderous item; Spontaneous healing (domain granted Abilities) Weapon prof. Gnomish Hook Hammner; Weapon Focus(GHH);Rebuke water; Spontanous casting Fire Equipment: Gnomish hook Hammer; Dagger; Blacksmiths Hammer; Smithing Gloves(Prevent 6 points of fire damage for hands only); Vest of resistance +1; belt of Healing (made by smith). Spells: Normally Prepared unless other wised planned for. 0: detect Magic; Guidance; light; Purify Food and drink 1: Wield Skill1; Endure Elements; Healthful Rest2; Weapon of impact1^ 2:Aura Against Flames1; iron Silence2; Bull’s Strength 1^ found in Forgotten Realms: magic of Faerun 2^ Found in Spell Compedium Domain Spells: Fire: 1. Burning Hands 2.Produce Fire Metal: 1. Magic Weapon 2. Heat Metal (apply to Gnomish Hook Hammer) his skills point are put mostly in craft weapon and armor; knowledge religion; profession blacksmith; and the spreadout to the basic ones ie. search spot listen etc i have planned on having him take the prestige clas Divine Disiple found in the Forgotten Realms CG. to those who know the one i plan on taking creation has my thrid domain? so there you have it. plz comment and give advise such as spells and tactics i can use. Stats Rolled in front of witnesses. (i swear) |

Dwarves are good with warhammers and crafting them: * Dwarven Cleric 4 (RoS) – sacrifice lvl 2 spell. Gain martial weapon proficiency with warhammer and +2 damage bonus * Battlesmith 1 (RoS) – wisdom to damage with self-crafted warhammer * Hammer of Moradin handbook - not an excellent prestige class, but has hammer flavor... * a good race might be earth dwarf (+2 str, +2 con, -2 dex, -2cha) |

| #4lormadorJul 01, 2009 7:19:39 | Ty those are some cool ideas but he is already in use and changing it in mid campaign isnt fair to others. Is it fair to use WotC printed material? 'Cause there's this psionic power, called Psychic Reformation (in the SRD no less) that's available to you for the low low price of a couple of thousand gold, few hundred XP and a chorus of groans around the gaming table. The strategy: head to a city. Use Gather Information to find out where a prominent psion is with Psychic Reformation. If necessary, use Divine Insight (SpC) to increase your check, have a rogue help us (+2 Aid Another). Our check should be high enough (with even 1 actual rank in Gather Info) to find such an NPC, if it exists. Or, as cleric, we have access to all kinds of awesome divination, which is cheap and easy to use. We can even Planar Ally in some divine (and divinely knowing) creatures to help out with this. To make a long story short, if there is such a manifester, we can probably find him; particularly as he's likely hanging out in some major metropolis selling Psychic Reformations. If all else fails, Plane Shift to Sigil. Now we're free to change all of our feat and skill choices. We can't change our class- and we can't take advantage of many of the alternative class features we might have wanted to. But what we can take is Extend Spell, Persistent Spell, and Divine Metamagic (Persistent Spell), and Extra Turning a bunch of times; which is the baseline optimized cleric and a great way to get into optimized characters. It's simple and effective. And, don't forget to call a bunch of weak fire creatures and rebuke them into serving you. There are a bunch of cool creatures with the fire subtype. |
| #5shockwave33Jul 01, 2009 8:52:40 | Ty however i am asking for advice to keep what i have working, while following my theme. A melee based combatant with divine backup. though i like the divine metafeat thats in complete devine right? i was hoping to get craft magic weapon and keep him a more blacksmith than cleric. though i hadnt thought of the rebuke for minions though that is cool. but the plan is to create a unique build and optimize that. not copy the cleric played at the last game by my friend. Also what is RoS and now SRD? PS i suck at abbbreviations, sry lol. I seriously appreciate the help guys i am taking all of this to heart. |

| #7shockwave33Jul 01, 2009 9:15:46 | haha i was temted to abbreviate abbreviate but didnt for that same reason. |
| #8lormadorJul 01, 2009 9:18:25 | Crafting can work for a cleric. I recommend Spell Storing weapons along with Bestow Curse or Inflict Wounds.... or perhaps Shivering Touch. Then again, if you use Divine Metamagic (Persistent Spell) at some point you'll open Lost Empires of Faerun, notice the Sunmace spell begs to be persisted, and just use that; cashing in the money previously tied up in weapons. |
