So far 5e has delivered everything I wanted out of a game and I could not be more excited for the DMG - this rule set is the best so far by a country mile and I just wanted to lend my voice to try and counter the rabble of haters on these boards.

No hate here.  I'm glad you like it.  My groups have been enjoying it tremendously.

I find it weird how there seem to be people who express very different playstyles from me but insist that's how everyone feels, and yet from 3rd onward the game has seemed to evolve more and more towards my preferences, culminating in 5th, which seems pretty spiffy! I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm left surprised!

I love this edition so much that it's basically bought back the same wonder of playing AD&D from back when I was a teenager. I too am more excited about the DMG, more than I have been over any band, movie, game, whatever in years.

However there are things about the game that vex me slightly, and I do complain about those things on the forums, that doesn't mean I dislike the edition. I suspect most other complaints also come from a good place.

Don't let all the negativity put you off.

I like 5th edition well enough but I miss 4th edition a lot. I also miss the staff that worked on 4th and is no longer working at WotC.

One of the things I truly like about 5th is the plethora of monsters in the MM that are fractions of a CR and easily serve as swarm encounters.

I'm really banking on the DMG spelling out how to build swarm like encounters for 8th level parties and beyond. I wish there were fractions of CR for beyond 1.  Or that monsters came in packages at 5 CR or 7 CR. Our party has reached 8th level and 4 CR 2 monsters are too easily killed. 2 CR 3 and 1 CR 2 monsters fairs little better. 2 CR 4 monsters is okay but it's only 2 against 4 PCs. It just seemed 1st level through 4th really rocked in monster slaying but it has fizzled out. I am hoping the DMG will help with this.

I also hope the DMG has rules to convert cones, cubes and whatnot for spells to be converted over to bursts, blasts and etc....  I hate cones especially.

I really like 5E and think it  runs like a charm.

Best thing is, all my friends think so too!

I like 5e as well. I'm enjoying gaming in three different version of D&D. I think that is pretty awesome. <insert some derogatory comment about people that don't feel as I do here to stay on topic with the OP>
