A large rise in % since the last one but still.

PF 23%.84%

5E 20.06%

15.81*% 3.5

4E 8.3%

AD&D 2.67

No real surprises there except maybe 3.5 still making up a large % of the D&D playerbase.

It is what one would expect with no online tools for 5e.

Wizards really dropped the ball on that one.

Rate of growth is the story here. Not total numbers.

Exactly. That's why rate of growth is important. Is PF/3rd experiencing negative growth while 5E experiences positive? If so, it seems like people would be finishing their campaigns and switching. But if PF/3rd holds steady while 5th simply shows up, that could indicate new gamers as opposed to converts.

Snapshot isn't quite enough.

Is this just fantasy grounds and roll20?  What about maptool?  While I haven't done anything to measure it, my feeling is that D&D is more marginally more popular than pathfinder on maptool (even during the 4e era).

Well, my best guess is campaigns wrapping up and new campaigns look to be converts to 5E then.

Caveat. I don't have perfect knowledge of what motivates everyone and I certainly am not speaking for anyone. Just estimating based on the changes Mellored reports.

That's my thinking. There's good stuff here. But after you've played a yearlong campaign (new design paradigm), are you gonna want to try a new character? Is there enough meat left on the bones after your first meal? Idk. I hope so.

We'll see how the numbers pan out. I've seen a few games online running LMoP, only to finish that up and go back to PF or something else.
