They're working on it right now. They've outsourced it to a company called Trapdoor, and the software is currently codenamed "Morningstar". It's currently in beta testing.

I hope it is awesome. I am a little gunshy over paying WotC over 300USD for insider and never really feeling like I got value out of it.

The silverlight fiesco still stings.

Indeed, I think their move to a web-only, online-only character builder was a bad move, and the rest of the tools never got properly developed. I'm hoping trapdoor does a better job with things

I signed up about as soon as you could. Has it actually *started* (as in I didn't get selected because I haven't been notified yet), or are we still waiting?

They've not said anything about having selected beta testers yet, also they'll likely do them in waves, with a growing base of testers as needed. I suspect though we won't see any invites until at least the 19th and possibly later (since the PHB comes out on the 19th).

I know someone who has been invited - possibly in relation to his tablet so maybe they have a smaller pool of those to choose from.  Given how modular the system is meant to be, I hope we don't have to wait  months for them to initialise custom content.  Mind you, with minimal feats and class features that grant static features, presumably most custom content will just require text to be pulled through onto the sheet.

As a newer player, I cannot wait for this app to be released since I got confused over some parts of the character sheet (as easy as it is). Just havin that little extra guidance goes a long way to helping get people over the hurdle that is their first character sheet.

I'm pretty excited about this. May have a good reason to upgrade from my first gen iPad now.
