| #7UchawiAug 21, 2014 5:01:14 | 5E has an equal opportunity to offend established players from previous editions, just like every other edition before it. Especially, when it appears the idea to bring out the best of every edition was more for pubilicity then proper execution in the rule set or game overall. |

I love watching the game evolve. |

| #26setiAug 21, 2014 12:37:09 | I've generally been reading positive reviews. Some have pointed out flaws fairly and accurately. But, yeah. The positive outweighs the negative. Some reviews seem overly fawning, however...
And I agree. The game isn't the greatest game ever, but it is a damn good game.
I'm looking forward to November, and not just because autumn is my favorite season.
One of my favorite positive critiques I've read a few times is the thought that 5e is what 3e should have been. My favorite negative criticism is that the game really does nothing new, and is pretty bland and conservative so far. I agree wholeheartedly with those opinions. |

| #28ChrisCarlsonAug 21, 2014 12:49:46 | If this edition "sucks" like some here want to believe, why aren't there scathing reviews skewering it? Unless, if WotC is "staging good reviews", they are also somehow able to kill bad ones before we can see them. They have that kind of power, right? |

| #40CorwynnMaelstromAug 21, 2014 16:17:20 | People are granting Hasbro more power than they have ever shown themselves to be willing to wield. My wife works closely with them and outside of having a deathgrip on Mr. Monopoly's hat (don't ask) they're really not all that scary. They protect their brands and are very concerned with things like aesthetic but they don't run around subverting random pop culture outlets in order to sow lies and dissention which will somehow trick gamers into believing that their products are something that they aren't.
I like 5e. I think 5e has a great deal of potential. I don't think that anyone needed to grease any gamer palms to get folks inclined to review for various publications that the game is generally fun. |

You have this number... THAC0 15
The monster has this number... AC 3
15 - 3 = 12 That's the number you need to roll on the d20 to hit.
OMG THAC0 is sooooooooooooooo complicated!!!!!!! **Bangs head against the wall** |

| #77ZardnaarAug 23, 2014 22:13:18 | I still think 2nd ed is the most hackable but you have to throw a lot of splat books at it. mostly the fighters, wizards, priests book, the players options books, and the historical books. Low magic, high magic, design your own classes, tweak existing ones etc etc etc are all doable. |

| #82LordOfTheChanceAug 24, 2014 9:23:19 | There are two different ways of looking at 4E's success or failure. First is from a business standpoint, which determines the long term viability of the product. Second is from the consumer's standpoint which can differ drastically from the business standpoint for many reasons (Firefly example). It isn't bashing to say 4E was a failure from a business standpoint. That's an objective observation supported by many facts, some stated and some unstated by the author of that article. Saying 4E was a failure from an end-users standpoint IS bashing it because this it is highly subjective to group everyone's experience with any edition into one word . If EVERYONE disliked 4E (or liked 5E) then these boards would be a much calmer place.
Having played 2E, 3.X, 4E, PF and now a good chunk of 5E I can honestly say each have their own merits. Personally I will be playing 5E moving forward because I want to give it a chance, just like I have for each previous edition since I began playing. I've very much enjoyed my experience so far with 5E (including being part of theplaytest) but that has been exclusively in a convention environment. My home campaign will be starting up very soon and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how it plays in that environment. I'm excited to continue this old journey with a new edition. |
