So my party and I arrived at Feathergale Spire, having recently discovered some freshly dug shallow graves. When we arrived we were greated well enough and envited inside the tower while we looked for information. Later on we were invited on a Manticore hunt, along with the knights. While none of the nights were able to spot the Manticore, my party and had all managed to sight to beast, (and furthemore we each rolled higher on initaitve, so the whole party was able to act first).

We made short work of the Manticore and took it out before it could act. What sealed the deal was was our Aarakocra Monk who hit the beast with First of Unbroken Air. The  beast was  caught by surprised (ie. failed it's save) and was knocked off it's course and sent hurtling towards  the ground (manticore was pushed 20 feet and knocked prone, while 300 feet in the air). Before the Manticore could regain it's ballance it was successfully blinded by a Color Spray by my drow sorcerer friend. Blinded, the beast was unable to determine which direction was up and crashed into the canyon floor and died. (It failed a dex save to right itself, which it rolled at disadvantage because it was blinded).

That night we had a feast at Feathergale Spire, and we exchanged tales. One of them even offered to vouch for us to join their numbers. We retired in good spirits, well most of us that is. Something did not set right with my Drow Sorcerer friend. So that night he began to sneak quietly. He managed to gain enter into Lord's room, and in there he found a black feathered cloak and symbol tying him and the rest of the group to the elemental cult of air.

One by one, he went to each of our rooms and quietly stirred us, showing us the feather in one hand and the symbol in the other. We all understood what it meant. While we gathered in center of the tower to discuss a strategy, we were too busy notice that our Barbarian/Fighter Goliath had proceeded without us, heading straight to the cult leader's chambers with his Maul in hand. Our first indication that something had gone amiss was when we heard the cult leader's blood curdling scream from several floors bellow. Our Goliath had managed to sneak into the cult  leader's unlocked room without waking him, and attacked the man in his sleep with giant maul.

I reasoned that the cultist didn't know that we were not on their side yet, and that there would be plenty of confusion until  they discovered what had transpired. So I went around the various rooms where the nights slept and starting calling out to them, "To Arms! To Arms!" And I urged the rest of my party to do the same. The sorcerer caught on, but the our monk seemed confused, but played along. We herded the the Feathergale knights ahead of us, the knights having only enough time to grab their weapons and still wearing their bed clothes as they ran up the stairs.

While this was happening, the Golaith was backed into the corner of the room, but still managing to hold his own against the men in the room with him. (He had done over 50 damage to the leader by himself and had been raging the whole time, so he was only taking half damage). We finally ushered the remaining of the Feathergale Knights into the room, and then it was turn to act. You see I am a Water Gensai and secretly a Tempest Cleric to Umberlee. With all my enemies gathered in one place I channeled Umberlee's divine power cast Shatter, maximizing it's effect on all of the Feathergale Knights. Because my Goliath friend was standing in the corner of the room, I was able to avoid catching him in the blast as well, a happy accident. The Shatter is also incapacitates the leader, and cause some severe damage to most of them knights. (Most of them failed their saves, and shatter  took the leader down bellow 0 hp.)

following up on this, the sorcere cast a web that filled up the room, but it didn't effect any of us (sourcerer points). We cut the rest of them down very easily and swiftly (we finished them off over the course of two rounds). Those who were not already trapped were not knocked prone into the webbing by a Thunderwave I cast the next turn. And the web was set on fire by the sourcerer immediately after (with a burning hands) that finished off the rest of the group.

It was too soon the celebrate just yet though. We could hear the initiates finally climing up the stairs. We had a moment to prepare though. My monk emptied a bag of Caltraps, and a bag of ball bearings at the top of the stairs they were asscending. The barbarian took up a possition at the top of the stairs and waited, as did I, standing just around the corner from the spiral  staircase that winds up the tower.

The first one reached the top, and was stopped on a caltrop that dug into his foot at the top of the stairs, only to for the Goliath to club him to death with is maul. (The initiate was hit for - his hitpoint total in total damage by the end of the round).

When the second one reached the top of the stairs, he managed to avoid the Caltrops and the ball bearings. I stepped around the corner and let out a Thunderwave, the two men behind him were launched 10 feet backwards down the stairs killing them, along with the caltrops and ball bearings. The bodies of the two men collided with the men behind them, knocking those two off of the strairs. However  the second initiat still stood at the top of the stairs. And then he hit me wit his sword, but Umberlee's might welled up within me an  a lighting bolt zapped out of my hammer and struck the initiate in the face, killing him.

The last threat in the building managed to make to the top of the stairs, some kind of spell caster whose name escapes me. He knocked me over with a thunderwave of his own, but was quickly finished off by the Monk and the Barbarian. After the assault our assault ended, only one of the initiates managed to survive the battle, and he fled the tower.

In a day we met the Feathergale Knights, went hunting with them, feasted with them, earned their trust, and then murdered all of them in their tower.

I love it.  What level where your PCs?  I'm just trying to gauge that for my sessions.

I have a feeling my group might act the same way yours did.  We have a hot-headed half-orc fighter who likes to intimidate and smash with his warhammer.  We also have a naive, quirky Gnome paladin who tries to talk with everything they meet.  This should be interesting.

I look forward to reading more about your adventures.  Cheers.

Twist: Someone just planted the air elemental robe there and they were all innocent!

"But we were certain they were bad!"

I jest, but it does make you realise how easily triggered the characters are. Just by a garment laying around.

Noon raises an interesting point, but man, that sounded like a blast!

I'm hoping to run PotA shortly, and I really enjoyed reading your recounting of the happenings at Feathergale Spire.  Works nicely to show one possibility of how things could turn out.
