#1 JohnLynch Jul 28, 2014 10:46:37	Note: If you aren't including 4th ed style tieflings in your campaign setting that's fine, although this thread isn't for you.   with the revelation that PHB tieflings would be closer to Nentir Vale tieflings than Planescape ones (which would be covered by a plane touched race), I've been struggling to find a way to incorporate them. Reading the preview of the bard I got inspired and you can find details here: https://nat20games.wordpress.com   I was wondering for those including PHB tieflings in your campaign settings, how are you adapting the world to incorporate them?

#4 Marandahir Jul 28, 2014 12:46:55	In my setting, Tieflings are a race of people who tried to become Demon Dragons, but failed, caught half-way in-between.  Their famous rivalry with the Dragonborn is because the Dragonborn are a race of people who found a different route, through shamanic meditation, to become Dragons (and the Way of the Dragon Monk subclass that I'm working on it supposed to emulate that pathway that gave birth to the Dragonborn in my setting).  Tieflings and Dragonborn, however, both breed true (despite teh Lamackianism of it), and their descendents are either further along or turn-back-the-clocks a bit on the draconic characteristics.  So Tieflings are going to seek out other Tieflings for mates, in hopes that that helps "purify" their bloodlines.  But in addition, they tend more towards Pacts with the Demon Dragons (represented by the Infernal Pact Warlock), and both Dragonborn and Tieflings are great candidates for the Sorcerer's Dragon Magic spell source.  In this way, if someone wants to play a "less demonic-looking, more 2e" Tiefling, they can; they're simply a Tiefling that has retreated back towards their human origins rather than towards the goal points of Sorcerer-King and finally Dragon (think how the Sorcerer-Kings of Athas are all candidates to become Dragons, but only Borys the Butcher managed to transform himself fully into one, as the Dragon of Tyr).  Furthermore, it allows more human-like Dragonborn and more reptilian Dragonborn, so if you want breasts, you can have breasts; if you don't, you don't have to have them.  It's all explained by where you are on the road towards Dragonhood (which can either be Demonic, Occidental fire-breathers like the Tiefling seek, or more nature-spirity Oriental Sea Kings like the Dragonborn seek).
