| #1HebitsuikazaDec 03, 2014 9:28:12 | Since the DMG has been finalized, what other rules do you feel you need in order for D&D to feel complete to you?
My personal list.
Classes
Subraces
Basic Races (with 2 subraces if at all possible or other customizable option) Aasimar/Deva Hobgoblin Orc
Advanced Races (these might be their own class)
Is there anything I missed? |
| #2ZardnaarDec 03, 2014 11:49:13 | Not much. Some more cleric domains and a few races maybe like aasimar. Iwould rather have better quality adventures. |
| #3bawylieDec 03, 2014 11:51:08 | I'd like to see many more subclasses. |
| #4FitzcoDec 03, 2014 11:53:41 | Also a fan of more subclasses. Fill up that empty design space a bit.
Wouldn't mind seeing them in the campaign settings, to differentiate them a bit. Sort of how PF (gasp!) does it with inserting new rules that are specific to each adventure path. |
| #5LawolfDec 03, 2014 12:08:45 | New classes New subclasses Skill Tricks Simplified Ship Combat Rules Simplified Mass Combat Rules Simplified Chase Scens Rules |
| #6DasFalkeDec 03, 2014 12:10:26 | Lycanthropy and vampirism rules already exist in the Monster Manual.
I never understood why they were separate classes to begin with in 4e (or even earlier?); they are diseases (or curses) that should sit "on top" of your character's existing stats. While I can't comment on how they play out mechanically, I am very pleased that the 5e rules simply modify your existing character instead of straight up replacing them.

| #7setiDec 03, 2014 12:38:09 | I really just want psionics. I want a well thought out and thouroughly written/illustrated 5e psionics hardcover book that isn't connected to any specific setting. 200+ish pages of new races, classes, abilities, rules, items, etc. just for introducing psionics to your game. This will probably be essential to anyone who wants to play Dark Sun, but it shouldn't be 'tacked on' to a DS setting book (should one ever be released for 5e).
I think any race/sub-race can be made up at the table with the 3 existing core books. Just keep them balanced with what's already out there. Nothing too powerful or too weak. Classes/sub-classes are a bit harder...But, meh. Whatever. If my group is dying for something not well represented in 5e (Shaman, Artificer, Warlord) we'll play 4e, or really sit down and make it up/make it work. As far as sub-classes go (eg: making a 'shaman' as a sub-class of druid, or an undead bloodline sorcerer sub-class) thay're not impossible with the tools we've been given. They wouldn't really require any new mechanics, either. At least nothing big...
Well, I haven't gotten my hands on a DMG yet, but it seems like it'll confirm what I already know about 5e. It's the DIY edition. For good, and for bad. Where needed, spells, items, sub-races, sub-classes seem like they'll be really easy to somewhat easy to make up. Again, though...a whole mechanical system like psionics is too much, IMO. Publish that book, WotC. ASAP.
Mass combat, naval combat, siege combat, and other alt. 'combat' rules would be nice, but...I can honestly see myself only needing that once or twice during a whole campaign. Plus, there's other games that can fill in for that. Want to do a big battle? Play a board game about big battles. Fold that into your existing D&D campaign. Easy. It's the same way I handle gambling in D&D. We just play Black Jack or Poker. Done.
PS: I would love to see remakes of a few classic D&D tomes. ie: Manual of the Planes, Unearthed Arcana, Deities and Demigods, etc. given the full 5e treatement...They'd be gorgous to look at, and fun to read.

| #8aurionshidheDec 03, 2014 12:40:32 | Since Eberron is my personal favorite setting, I would really like to see the races, classes, and psionics necessary to play in that setting.
Aside from that, I am a huge fan of subclasses/paths for the main classes. I would like to see different types of sorcerors, fighters, barbarians, and so forth. |
| #9ChakravantDec 03, 2014 13:15:43 | Skills and Powers style point buy rules BESM D20 style classless rules BESM D20 style levelless rules Many more classes Many more Feats Many more spells Prestige/Paragon Progression Epic level options beyond what is in the DMG |

| #12AdjuleDec 03, 2014 14:17:21 | Official conversion manuals for converting pre-5th edition to 5th edition, similar to what they did with 3rd edition. More races, like the gnoll, lizardfolk, warforged, kender, shifter, duergar, etc More classes and subclasses (such as psionics, either as their own class or subclasses of existing classes. Psychic Warrior would probably work as a fighter subclass, like eldritch knight) More sorcerer bloodlines and cleric domains (such as the old alignment domains) Manual of the Planes (always enjoyed the various planes from the Great Wheel type of cosmology)

| #17rampantDec 03, 2014 17:51:39 | I don't think you can every really have a complete DnD, if you stop having ideas for new stuff, or even before you run out of ideas, the edition ends.
Though I would like to see:
1. Psionics 2. A second independent pillar of character creation 3. Useful and interesting crafting rules for mundane gear that isn't bog-standard, I wanna play characters who can make cool stuff! 4. A decent magic item crafting system, that creates items appropriate for a PC ability, not the DMG's plethora of plot devices. 5. MOAR DRAGONS! You can never have enough of those. 6. Rules for being a corpsestitching master of undead creation. 7. Decent alchemy rules. 8. A way to get companion creatures that scale properly. 9. Changelings, best race ever. 10. Symbionts 11. Grafts 12. Wards
Hmmmmm, some of these could play into each other a bit so you didn't have to solve them all separately. |
| #18Cyber-DaveDec 03, 2014 19:59:06 | Needs? Only one thing: psionics. What I want? Lots of stuff, but most of it isn't needed. I mean, PC vampires/werecreatures has never been a central need of this game. Same with a lot of the other "needs" I have seen in this thread. Mind you, I would want a lot of that stuff! It just isn't a need. Psionics, on the other hand, is a need. |
| #19PsikerlordDec 03, 2014 22:29:27 | I think they've pretty much covered eveything, but I would like:
1. Cool, old style, sandbox adventures 2. A nonmagical ranger subclass 3. Maybe another 10-20 feats. I like what there is, but a few more to choose from would be cool (especially "out of combat" style feats)
|
| #20Warder17Dec 03, 2014 22:44:44 | Mass combat. Domain play.

| #24EmerikolDec 04, 2014 7:05:23 | Need is perhaps the wrong word. The game is playable and houseruleable.
I think a concise set of houserules with a name that allows you to modify 5e to be more like another edition would be nice. So that a DM could advertise for players and state the houserules he's using up front in a concise way.
So I could advertise like this.... 5e with the 1e variant options.

|
| #27FallstormDec 04, 2014 16:52:19 | Somethings I would like to see are:
-Psionics Handbook independent and not tied to any specific campaign featuring psionic classes and powers -updated campaign sourcebooks namely for Forgotten Realms (the baseline world of DnD 5E), Greyhawk (my favorite campaign setting), and Dark Sun -Conversion guides that truly introduce modularity and allow you to make 5E closer to previous editions in playstyle but with 5Es' updated mechanics included -Splat books: books with classes, subclasses, spells, cleric domains, playable races etcetera -PDF /ebook options for the future books including the core books -Setting books: This is close to campaign sourcebooks but I am making a separate category for this. What is included in this category are books that deal with general (not tied to any particulary campaign world) cultural settings (Ex. Asiatic "Oriental" adventures setting, African setting, Middle-Eastern setting, Historical setting such as when 2E published the historical sourcebooks like Age of Empire for Rome and The Celts and so forth) OR a particular theme setting (EX: a sourcebook focused specifically on Sword & Sorcery as a style of play, one focused on Dark Fantasy, etc) -A remake of some classic books for 5E such as Unearthed Arcana that could introduce even more optional rules and dials (in all honestly I think this is one area 5E has failed to deliver as a I don't see very many dials in this game). An UA tome could fix that...perhaps the conversation guidelines could be a web supplement or part of the book. Also, a Tome of Magic and other traditional books would be nice. |
| #28Ath-kethinDec 04, 2014 18:33:56 | I would like to see an option for 2e style multiclassing, conversion materials for using older edition material, and 2e style psionics. That last one is important; for the wizards-by-another-name approach of 3e+, we have a spell point system. I want a psionics system that actually feels different. I think an update of the 2e Revised rules (the ones using MTHAC0 and MAC) would be pretty easy to set up and to implement. |

| #331eejitDec 05, 2014 3:42:41 | A couple of Sorcerer bloodlines I guess. Maybe one more subclass each for Bard and Ranger.
I also look forward to the Mass Combat rules.
I don't want much though, I'd prefer this edition doesn't get overly bloated. Which it will if like half the stuff in this thread is released. |
| #34shpelleyDec 05, 2014 4:51:12 | Stuff I want that they are working on: - Mass Combat Rules - Edition Conversion Guides
Other Stuff: - Psionics - Ship Combat Rules - Setting Books
That is about it. I guess I wouldn't mind more subclasses/feats/etc in theory, but honestly most of the "expected" suspects are already there and any that aren't I have no issue building myself. Honestly, more systems/options is ideal. |

| #36XguildDec 05, 2014 5:42:32 | Oh one more thing. I really hope they create a proper license for the game so third parties are able to create content like adventures for 5e. There are some amazing writers out there that pen great stuff for obscure systems and really they should be writing for D&D. |

| #39SirGrotiusDec 05, 2014 12:40:28 | Need is a strong word here, but for a mid-thirties busy guy such as me (two toddlers!) I need a full-blown hardcover campaign setting, such as Dragonlance to spur me to create a new campaign. Right now I passively read all the new materials with interest, but I need some more prodding to a) create and b) facilitate getting a group of peers together.
A nice-to-have would be a Dungeon Master's Supplement such as Creative Campaigning that I read back in the 2nd edition days. This would be another motivation tool and I could swipe some of its updated ideas straight over into my nefarious world of woe.

| #40Brock_LandersDec 06, 2014 5:18:56 | Anything I want, I convert, and as 5th Ed is a very conversion-friendly edition, it is easy to do so. So far I have converted races, classes (factotum, gunslinger, healer, hexblade, jester, spirit shaman), monsters, prestige classes, spells and monster templates |
| #41EnglishLanguageDec 06, 2014 6:33:19 | My personal wishlist in no particular order

| #44Daydreamer80Dec 07, 2014 11:31:29 | I think i heard a rumor that to prevent power creep, like for example with a clerics spell list, they intend to tie down most non standard rules to specific campaign settings.
By analogy they compared it to playing 'standard' magic the card game where rather than all cards being in play, only those from the specific season where in show.
This prevents the power creep from too many subclass/feats/spells. As they are tied more specificallly to specific material planes ( campaign settings).
What i would hope this mean is that a campaign setting is in the works, i would buy one of those for sure. Other than that, i expect u might see a book on the planes, like elementalists handbook, which would include new pc/feats/items/spells, as well as information on a certain subset of the planes.

| #49hunterian7Dec 09, 2014 21:54:31 | A few subclasses for the monk, sorcerer, druid and ranger would be nice. Some more feats. I think these will be expanded upon with the upcoming class options book coming out next year.
Another MM with more monster variants would be cool. |
| #50DaveDashDec 09, 2014 22:14:25 | After getting the DMG I'm surprised there isn't rules around creating templates type monsters in more detail (vampires, undead, demons, devils, etc). There is a lot of "Reverse engineer stuff from the MM!" in there. |

| #53dlwraithDec 10, 2014 1:47:59 | I'm actually quite happy for the designers to leave the core rules well alone at this point. I saw what continually adding more and more feats and classes did to 3E and 4E in particular and I'm not keen to see a return to that hell of min/maxing (ahem, sorry, CharOp). They've given us a malleable framework - it's up to us to do what we want with that. We don't need 'official' support for those sorts of changes or additions, it's part of the fun creating what you need for your games.
For me, MM expansions are always good (I'm a DM rather than a player though so I would say that) and I think design effort needs to go not into the main rules but into campaign settings and adventure design (somewhat unimpressed by the adventure designs so far but there's some promising bits in there that are worth a look. Maybe I'm a little jaded by this point - I don't mean to rubbish anyone's efforts). The one thing that's sorely missing, however - Psionics.
Let's not make Psionics some sort of 5E magic system though. I really liked how 2E's Psionics system was hugely different from the various magic systems knocking about in the edition and while the Skills and Powers re-working lost a little of that flavour (while simplifying the system, making it more like the existing attack mechanics with MAC etc) it still felt like it wasn't just another spell-slot selection mechanism.
And yes, I realise my earlier comment could apply to monsters, settings or Psionics. I just think if we're going to apply design effort then these items deserve it more. |
