Excellent. I just got back from the game shop with my Starter Set about 30 minutes ago and have been perusing everything in the box. Now I come here just in time to download basic after it goes up.

So, not that I'm rushing to use it or anything, but I thought this was supposed to be a complete PDF (player, monster, treasure) or was I imaginging this?

I know the other two books don't come out till later, so maybe it updates that info then, and this is just a "have a look now, wait to play for 2 months" later thing?

More of a question than complaint or anything related.

Tridents are pointless.

They can be used underwater, but so can speres.

Hurray, Second Wind, fighters have troll blood.  At 18th level fighters get survivor and become half trolls!  Because, hurray!  Trolls!

I see Protection continues to be a horrible trap option for fighters that goes from bad at low levels to pointless at higher levels as creatures get multi-attack.

And rogues continue to be able to outrun everything and everyone and any speed boost they gets is coumpounded so they can do pretty crazy things.

Ugh, you can't cut-and-paste the text.

And while the page is light, there is a texture to the document which will eat up ink.

I'd love a printer friendly version. Or to be able to select the text.

Is it just me, or is that font really annoying? The letters are all different sizes.

My first impression is that this is what I thought it would be (and not in a good way):  ADnD 3E or as I've put it before ADnD: Hot Tub Time Machine Edition.  All Rogues have Thieves Cant no matter what?  Really?

Welll... skills (and also saving throws) don't improve in any way across 20 levels unless the character is proficient in...

I don't like it, if I'm a warrior who travels the world and defeats almost everything in his wake, (20 levels!!!) I should have a diplomacy different from a 1st level newby, without the help of a background.

My only gripe so far is that they're only offering one subtype for each class in this (totally and completely free and awesome) PDF.

But the thing looks great, is easy to read, and appears to be a great introduction to the game. Props to Wizards of the Coast!
