| #1MrHemlocksJul 09, 2014 5:00:51 | Hello
I have been doing some reading on the basic rules and was wondering if WotC is going to make a print version of these. WotC already said they will be making adventures and other 'stuff' for the basci rules and in doing so it would be nice to have an offical print edition. Not everone lives in the digital/matrix world...thank goodness!

Why do I say this?
Page 1 of the Basic Rules, free to download, but not legally allowed to print it....
DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, D&D, Wizards of the Coast, Forgotten Realms, the dragon
Empasis added by me. A 110 page document, that even includes blank character sheets. Guess what, I don't want to read 110 pages on my computer screen. I surely also could use printed compies of that character sheet. But, I'm not legally allowed to print them.
So, my first impression is annoyed. WoC needs to realize that legal position is idiotic and not customer friendly with a document such as the free basic rules. |

| #9OgeeJul 09, 2014 7:34:52 | Yeah. my printer is on the fritz. So, I tried to print it out at the local FedEx Kinkos office and they said no way. Oh well. I totally agree with you. But, legal blah blah blah. |
| #10alienuxJul 09, 2014 7:39:54 | Yes, I agree with mellored. I also seem to recall Greg mentioning something about making copies of the character sheets in the starter set, too, which indicates that they expect people to be printing some of this stuff. |

Like others have already pointed out, obviously if we were not allowed to print it there wouldn't be a printer friendly version and the legal jargon comes intoi play if you were trying to make money off it. The deal with FedEx Office and certain documents/images is that they (meaning the actual employees) are not allowed to copy copyrighted material without written consent from whoever owns the rights, but technically they won't keep you from doing it yourself out in the self serve area (we were forbidden to help anyone doing so if it was a legit copyright issue).
Again, they shouldn't be giving you any problems to begin with about printing the basic rules, if they do, my advice is to just load it on a USB or your phone and print it in self serve because honestly, most FedEx Office guys/gals just want you to do those kind out of copies yourself anyway so that may be why you're being told no. |
