Anyone had their pages separating from their binding already??  Anyone had this, contacted customer service and received any kind of feedback?  Thanks in advance.

Does this mean that yours is falling apart?

Had it happen with a book from Mongoose, emailed them a picture, they had a new book in my hands in a couple days.  Gave a friend the damaged one and hurray, two happy people.

I just checked my book - it seems tightly bound but the binding glue is a little sloppy (I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been looking right at it.)  Maybe they had a bad run where the glue didn't work.

In any case, I would really hope they send you a replacement!

Failing that you could always take the pages to a print shop to get them to rebind it - usually isn't too expensive (I've done it with other books that have fallen apart) - however for as much as these books cost they really should replace it since it is brand new.

My 1e phb is falling apart a little bit. But that's to be expected. I would imagine some type of warranty us in effect. Maybe check with where you bought it or with wizards themselves. Not sure.

So far mine is very sturdy and seems to be well bound. I'm pretty big on keeping all of my books in good shape (which drives my wife nuts since she loves to just flip the covers together against each other when she reads), so I've been gentle with mine, but not overly so.

If mine started to come apart anytime soon, I'd definitely contact WoTC about it.

Hey WoTC, when people said they wanted 5th Edition to have more of a 1e/2e feel, they didn't mean you should bind the books so that they FALL APART IMMEDIATELY just like the 2nd edition books did.

Have you left it in a hot area? I know leaving my 2e PHB in a hot car was what made it fall apart, long time ago.

My 5e. P.H. is perfectly bound, and looks beautiful. I did however- have to sort through the dross at my local game store to get a gem. There were some "stinkers" on the shelf. I'm glad I canceled my Amazon order and bought local. That could have been a fiasco.

It took a flood to destroy my original 2nd edition phb. It was used all the time before that.

Just to clear up, the book has been sitting in my house.  It has not sat anywhere hot.  I have read it and nothing more dramatic than that.  It's not even a week old.  This book hasn't done anything more strenuous than a number of books I own that are much older have, and that are not falling apart.

I assume I won't hear anything until Monday since I sent the email after COB on Friday and it is Gencon, but I certainly hope I get a credit or a new book.  I flat out told them at customer service, I paid $50.  I paid $50 at a FLGS.  I could have just pirated it and I didn't, so I'd appreacite it if they didn't pirate me.

The cover for my PHB and my Hoard of the Dragon Queen books are slightly warpped (PHB more so)... but I have been toting them around everywhere I go so I can read, consider and read some more  I think I noticed warpping after being at the laundromat. Might have been the humditiy and tempurature... the first couple if pages in the PHB seems to getting a little loose, but they're not falling out.

Mine seems like there are too many pages for the size of the spine. The book is fatter at the open end so I anticipate binding problems at some point. It already has glue issues where pages are glued together at the spine.

My 4e PHB fell apart during the first week of use, pages 1-paladin at-will attacks. I was reading it in my car on my lunch break, couldn't have been over 85 degrees in there when it fell apart. And no, it wasn't in the car the 4 previous hours.

I think the 5e is more sturdy, and I hope Templar309's incident was unique. I'd hate for WoTC to put together such an amazing book just to skimp on the the binding.

I got one book from my my FLGS and a second from Amazon... no defects, loose pages, etc with either one...

Binding is good. Some faded ink in the book, nothing too bad. The ink seems to fade when the parchment background effect gets lighter in color, creating faded ink splotches.

Mines perfect so far. My 4e books are all perfect too. Come to think of it, my 2e and 1e hardbacks are still in great shape as well (except for UA of course but thats a given). My Rules Cyclopedia is getting a little loose up front around the classes.

I've yet to get a bad D&D book... my oldest are the original AD&D manuals... they're still fine. Skipped 2nd, but the ones we've picked up used over the years are fine. 3 and 3.5... no issues.. a couple of the books are beat up from hard use, but that's not the fault of the binder. No problems with any of my 4e books either. I've bought new and used and so far so good..

Actually, the only books I've had any problems with are from WW - WoD books.... actually just 'Innocents' but that was apparently a known problem run.

This happened to our 5e PHB as well, about half the pages in it are loose now.  We've been using it a lot, but we just open it flat on the table when we do, so that doesn't seem like abuse.

For comparison, I never had any of the 4e, 3e or 2e books do this.  I am seriously disappointed.

They asked me to ship it back.  I sent them photos of the book falling apart and apparently that wasn't good enough.  I told them not to bother and then they offered to have Fedex pick it up, by that time my DM felt bad, since he's the one that suggested we try 5e out and I went to his favorite FLGS and got stuck with a lemon, so he does a lot of Ebay trade and shipped it back for me.  We will see what the turnaround time is.  I'm not surprised though, I'm never thrilled with "made in China" and a glued binding as opposed to a library binding.  I wish they offered a more expensive version, I'd pay for a library binding on a good hard cover book I want around forever.

My 5th Ed fell apart as well...sent  WOTC an email and got a response pretty quickly, within a few hours. They did ask for a few things , but nothing out of the question, a letter briefly describing the problem with ny name and address included along with the original reciept (this could be a problem for some, but I save everything). Once I sent then all that they responded with the instructions on how to return the book for a replacement, and that email came within 20 minutes of me sending the required docs. I got my replacement in exactly 1 week to the day. My only complaint, besides the poor quality to begin with, they could have thrown a mini in for my troubles or some WOTC fadder, I mean come on...my dog gets a treat when her meds come from that online pet med store. oh well..I am just glad to have had to only play 1 week without my book.

Unfortunately my PHB has already, in a 6 month span doing nothing more than laying it flat on a table for use, separated from the bindings. A sad buyer-beware scenario, and disappointed with the cost vs. binding quality.  Have a friend who has offered to glue it for me, so we'll see if it can be salvaged.

I have had my PHB since last summer but have only used it within the last month. I have taken it to 2 gaming sessions and I am very carefull with all my books. I do lay gaming reference books flat but I don't crease the bindings or push the pages down at the bindings. I have a large portion of the pages separating from the binding. This is disappointing for a $50 book designed for use at a gaming table. I am going to look at options for replacing/repairing the book and will repost here when I find a solution.

In carefully inspecting my Monster Manual, I am seeing a different binding issue occuring that I can only see getting worse. This book I have only used at one gaming session and was only for reference for one entry. I just can't believe that 2 of the 3 books I own for this edition are coming apart. The following pictures are of my Monster Manual:

IMAGE(https://shatim.smugmug.com/photos/i-dh66MSf/0/S/i-dh66MSf-S.jpg)

IMAGE(https://shatim.smugmug.com/photos/i-sJbQZbX/0/S/i-sJbQZbX-S.jpg)

IMAGE(https://shatim.smugmug.com/photos/i-6V2dQz7/0/S/i-6V2dQz7-S.jpg)

In looking and my collection of gaming books, this is a rare occurence for my books. I have gaming books that have had tons/years of abuse, dragged back and forth across the country in multiple moves several times, even one that was loaned to a friend and left out in a sandstorm in Iraq that had warped pages and dirt- but the binding didn't come apart. This is particulary frustrating as I have started a new D&D 5e game, and encouraged others to get a copy of the PHB. Now I am reluctant to use the books for fear of the pages falling out.

On a good note, my DMG appears to have a very tight binding and I have had that book open and I have read through every page cover to cover and the binding still looks great.

I just now got a response from the CS team with a link to "replacing a defective product." Will look into that and repost here with updates.
