| #1pukunuiJan 27, 2015 22:48:58 | Is anyone else bored of all the pointless bickering on these forums? Cos I sure am. I'd much rather come here and read about people's constructive ideas and stories. All the stupid little arguments about picayune details are such a turn-off. People need to chill. Be excellent to each other.
More gaming, less flaming!

| #2Azzy1974Jan 27, 2015 23:08:57 | Yes, please! |
| #3NevvurJan 27, 2015 23:25:16 | Yes. I find myself skipping most threads over 20 replies long, at least when it comes to rules discussions. Saves me time and sanity. If people haven't come to a consensus by then, they probably never will. Alas, the guilty parties don't see it as bickering.
I began ignoring such threads when a certain Tarrasque thread became bigger than the monster itself. |
| #4CVBJan 27, 2015 23:18:14 | It comes with the hobby,I'm afraid. See everypne understands the rules differently, even if it's small details that others would miss. And the Internet, the land where all great debates go to die. |

| #8Brock_LandersJan 28, 2015 2:00:35 | I am having a blast converting (one of the big sellers of 5th Ed for me is ease of conversion), have been a converting maniac since the playtest started; I have converted races (bauriar, dvati, feytouched, illumian, rogue modron, all planetouched), classes (binder, dragon shaman, duskblade, factotum, gunslinger, healer, hexblade, incarnate, jester, knight, soulborn, spirit shaman, truenamer), prestige classes (chameleon, dark hunter, demonologist, iaijutsu master, reaping mauler, swanmay), monsters (all missing celestials, fiends and fey, inevitables, and a bunch of others), spells (engulfing terror!), it is addictive, I tell ya! |
| #9BoldItalicJan 28, 2015 2:09:44 | Sometimes, I read the bickering threads on purpose so that I can say to myself, like Puck, "Lord, what fools these mortals be!" and feel smug. |

| #12AaronOfBarbariaJan 28, 2015 2:57:16 | I try not to get caught up in the bickering (I fail frequently, but I keep trying), and focus on threads where I can help by answering questions or share ideas.
I wish there were more ideas going around to share on, but I find I barely (if ever) have my own topic to start a thread about, so I wind up reading whatever is around and responding where I can.
There is this weird thing that happens, though, where I will answer someone's question and have them rant at me or argue against my answer - It confuses me: if you have a confident enough grasp of the rule to complain that you don't like the answer I have given, or to flat out tell me I'm wrong, why are you asking in the first place?
That said, I too would be glad to see some DMs posting their conversion notes for any conversions being done (I'd post mine, but there really aren't many notes for the adventures I've converted thus far which are basically summed up by reduce DCs, approximate monsters, reduce monitary treasure by 80%, use DMG version of any magic items possible and omit all others, then reduce all +X items in intensity and quantity). |

| #19iserithJan 28, 2015 5:50:48 | I haven't noticed much bickering lately, but then I tend not to visit threads started by particular people or threads where the "Latest Update" is from the same two or three people all the time. That's a sure sign of a semantic argument happening that I don't need to waste time on.
In fact, I'd say the board is fairly dead compared to what it used to be prior to 5e's official launch. |

| #21SynjinJan 28, 2015 11:59:44 | If you've been here more than a couple weeks, and check regularly (once a day), you learn to notice which threads will become flame-wars. I read those when I'm bored and want a chuckle (C'mon, that Tarassque thread was legendary!), but for real advice, I know which ones will provide it and which wont. As well as which people to pay closer attention to. Not because they're right or I agree with them, but because they don't post passive-aggressively or troll. I've had more than a few disagreements with certian folks that didn't devolve into a bi**h-fest. |
| #22OoftaMegJan 28, 2015 12:05:53 | Is it too late for a new year's resolution? I know I've done my share of contributing to never ending threads ... I just get annoyed when people can't accept that there isn't always one true interpretation of the holy rule books. That just because I disagree with them that I'm spreading "lies and disinformation".
Ahh well ... I will try to do better. |

| #26Pompadour64Jan 28, 2015 15:47:04 | If you're not making money in any way, I don't think it really falls under copyright jurisdiction. I could be wrong, though. I'm no lawyer.
In any case, the worst that would happen is that you would be asked to take it down. Or, since we're on their forums, they would just take it down. So if it's already created, nothing would really be lost. |
| #27JenksJan 28, 2015 16:01:13 | In general, so long as you are using an intellectual property that you do not own, whether directly or even even sometimes idirectly, you can be asked to cease and desist, and even sued, whether or not you are making money from it.
HOWEVER, most companies will allow use of their IPs so long as you are not using them to generate a profit. Even then, if the product is getting them good press (see how let's players are still in business) they may still allow it. In the end, it's not worth their time to legally pursue every fan project, as well it's more or less free advertising.
TLDR: As long as you don't try and make money from your activities, you should be fine.

Really what I like is to hear about other people's characters and their exploits. I also like discussing cool character concepts and ways to implement them. Think about what you do when you find out someone you know us into d&d and u start exchanging ideas and preferences and etc
Would be fun if there was more of that and less: "straw man! Ad hominem! U built it wrong! This edition sux!" This place is for FANS of 5e to get each other excited about playing and give each other ideas to understand and inspire play, right? |

| #47arderkragFeb 01, 2015 6:18:41 | Having a moratorium on negative threads would have been a good start, if it had been done several months ago. There's way too many toxic posters that get away with things that should get them banned. |

| #49Hurin88Feb 01, 2015 10:26:45 | It has become hard to have a constructive discussion; I think many people have left the boards because of it.
Too many posts like 'Wrong. You have no idea what you're talking about. Loser.' and that's it. These are posts that add nothing to the discussion, and in fact subtract from it. If you can't be civil, at least be substantive: have some facts or evidence to back up your point. There is far too little of that on these boards nowadays. |
| #50ZardnaarFeb 01, 2015 12:09:24 | Used to be a nice place. THe solution is obvious ban everyone who has an account less than 10 years old!!!!!! |

| #54pukunuiFeb 01, 2015 13:29:38 | I've still got my original account. I used to have a much higher post count, though. Like over 10k. I was quite an active member of the Star Wars forums, so when those got closed down, I lost all those posts.
Anyway, methinks Zard will have to be one of the first to go, since his account dates back to 2001! |
| #55ankiyavonFeb 01, 2015 14:31:03 | I am actually as relatively new as my account suggests. I was never interested in spending time on a D&D forum until I was qutting WoW and I needed a gateway drug to wean myself off the WoW forum addiction.
And since I had just gotten Insider at the time and enjoy discussing D&D rules, a D&D forum seemed like a good fit. |
| #56Cyber-DaveFeb 01, 2015 15:20:20 | Yea. It would be nice if this forum could turn into a positive environment. I probably help contribute to the bickering, to be honest. I mean, I don't usually start, but sometimes I find it really hard not to rise to the bait. |
| #57NoonFeb 01, 2015 17:04:40 | Isn't there really just two main types of posts available?
1. Actual play accounts
and
2. People talking about how to play the game.
To me it seems people can't help making universal claims - their particular method of play isn't a particular method, they insist it is THE method.
It'd get less toxic if people stopped preaching the one true faith.
I'd give an actual play account, but someone would probably preach that it's boardgamey, which puts me off. |
| #58EnglishLanguageFeb 01, 2015 17:13:44 | Meh, it's a new edition of D&D. After seeing the edition changes from 2e to 3.x,, 3.x to 4e, and now 4e to 5e, arguing, bickering, and threats are pretty exactly what I've come to expect. |
| #59Cyber-DaveFeb 01, 2015 19:13:48 | The boards are a lot less toxic than they were in the 3e to 4e adaptation, so at least there is that... |
| #60EnglishLanguageFeb 01, 2015 19:17:15 | There was a lot more discussion in general at that point to be fair.
Since then, the D&D boards in general have been.....quieter, in a manner of speaking. |
| #61DevilbassFeb 02, 2015 23:40:31 | I've been lurking on more or less a daily basis for about a year and a half. I actually think the boards are less toxic than a year ago, but I'd say they are also less busy, so maybe that's a factor. Honestly, the reason I tend to lurk is because of how often people's comments are attacked or taken way out of context (which frequently seems intentional). It often seems like voicing an opinion would be pointless because of such occurrences. There have been at least a dozen times when I get half way through typing a response and then don't bother posting it because of the numerous times I've seen posts picked apart due to "imperfect" wording despite crystal clear intent. |
