Do we have any idea when the first round of Campaign Setting Sourcebooks will be released? Eager to get my hands on Forgotten Realms and Castle Ravenloft.

No we don't. WoTC has been tight lipsed about it. We know Eberron is in the work. No other confirmation or date yet.

I hope they'll blow us all away with a new campaign setting.

@gregbilsland : Running my Dragonlance #dnd game tonight for the first time in five months. Woo! #dndnext #5e

So it seems that Greg seems to have at least some house rules to run dragonlance.

In a video or twitter, Mike Mearls said that some of the campaign races are in the PHB or DMG.

We'll get a Forgotten Realms, as they need to revise the setting for the post-Sundering Realms.

Everything else... That's less needed. Nothing in Eberron or Dark Sun has changed since the last WotC releases, and all the content needed to play could be released in a single month of Dragon and Dungeon

The same could be said about Ravenloft and Dragonlance if you picked up the 2nd party books for those during 3e.

The likely candidates for hardcover releases are settings with lots of different rules that could double as accessories (like Spelljammer or Birthright) or dropped into any campaign so you can use the products at any time (like Ravenloft, Spelljammer, Planescape, or even Hollow World). And expansion lands of the Forgotten Realms might also be good choices, as they're part of the Core world and can supply alternate rules (Al Qadim and Kara Tur).

Worlds where WotC might be losing the trademarks are also likely to make appearances.

I'm hoping for more Ravenloft.

I hope they do update some of the campaign worlds.  Some settings I would love to see updated are:

Forgotten Realm-This is one I know we should be getting as they will have to update it for after the Sundering

Greyhawk

Dragonlance

Dark Sun

Al-Qadim

Kara-Tur/Oriental Adventures

The Basic Rules' early section on "Worlds of Adventure" includes an interesting list: "The legends of the Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Mystara, and Eberron settings are woven together in the fabric of the multiverse. Alongside these worlds are hundreds of thousands more, created by generations of D&D players for their own games. And amid all the richness of the multiverse, you might create a world of your own" (p. 3). This list includes six settings, but it made me immediately think of the "five settings for 5e" notion that's been making the rounds off and on for a while.

Not to read too much into things, but perhaps this list of six provides some insight into which campaign worlds we'll see:

Dark Sun - a longtime fan favorite and, from what I gather, still successful product-wise as recently as 4e.

Dragonlance - another fan favorite; I wouldn't be surprised to see a setting book by Weis or other DL alumni, especially with WotC farming out adventure production, etc.

Eberron - super-successful new setting, almost certainly in for the 5e treatment.

Forgotten Realms - already identified as a core setting for 5e.

Greyhawk and Mystara - both of these are outside possibilities, and both are favorites among a certain number of people across editions; probably a toss-up, though Greyhawk has the Gygax edge.

Maybe we'll get Spelljammer!

Cries in the corner.

But in all seriousness, my groups have never played a single campaign in a world we didn't create, and maybe 5th is the time we finally do. I think my groups would appreciate Eberron a bunch over other settings.

Fingers crossed for Ravenloft,Planescape and Dark Sun. Although i don't run published settings, except Ravenloft, those 3 are my favourite for taking bits and pices for my own worlds. I plan to run Dark Sun meets Ravenloft with hint of Call of Cthulhu set in fantasy version of Africa when phb and mm come out. I hope for 5e settings books to be like 2ed ad&d ones which I'm using right now.

I want Ravenloft and Masque of the Red Death

Dark Sun all the way. Although, I want there to be a number of nonstandard classes available before they release it. Dark Sun needs to be a nonstandard campaign.

Also,it would be really nice if they make brand new setting for this edition. Although i like some of the old ones very much, most of them are over 20 years old and have spawned tons of novels (FR & Dragonlance, im looking at you). Hell, even Eberron is 10 years old now. It's time for something new, fresh and 5th ed exclusive.
