I'd like to congradulate Wizards of the Coast for the release of D&D 5th edition! The public playtest has been a great adventure and now that it's out of the gate, more are to come.... This is an exciting time for D&D!!!
I know R&D, Editors and Brand team worked hard and still do to finalyze books, program and future products and they deserve a big 
Huzzah!

Congratulations to all! All of the staff at Wizards of the Coast and to the play testers that helped to bring this all together.
This is the most excited I've been about a new edition since at least 2nd, and I can't remember it well enough to know if this tops it. I hope everyone's hardwork pays off, and it is viewed as a major success down the road. Looking forward to seeing it roll out and blossom. Congrats Wizards.

The playtest has been great fun. We enjoyed seeing the mechanics evolve and feel like we were a real part of the development process. I will be picking up the starter set on the way home from work. Hopefully, the .pdf will be available by then.

I started out very skeptical and resentful about the edition change. But WOTC has won me over in getting me to eagerly wait for the new edition, along with my players. We tried the playtest and were happy with it, though the monsters still definitely needed major work. So of course we won't know how much we like the final product until we try it but we are definitely excited about the release. Can't wait to get it in my hands. Congratulations, WOTC.
Way back in the future in the year 2000, I crawled out of my Y2K bunker and heard a new edition of D&D was released. I had played AD&D 2e since the late 80s. I was very skeptical. I mean, who could really improve on THAC0, rolling initiative every round, and weapon/casting speeds? Reluctantly, I gave it a try and it was so good it caught me flat-footed. I played it for the next 8 years. Time just flew by.
I was living in the mountains of Colombia when a guy on a donkey told me in broken English that 4e was about to be released. The hell? I was pumping out some seriously good 3.5e campaigns at that time, especially Eberron-based ones. It's where I found the pace and tone I still adhere to now. Why did I need a new edition? Skepticism. Nope, wasn't going to convert, no need. When I was about to head back to the States, a friend of mine had picked up the books and had played a bit. He said he enjoyed it and I trusted his judgment so I decided to run some games. By Moradin's beard it was fun.
Six years later, I'm still playing D&D 4e, having left 3.5e in the dust. I'm creating some of the best stuff I've ever done in this system and running adventures that people want to play again and again with different characters just to see how it plays out. I can make the system sing just by running it as written. I've run games for hundreds of people at this point thanks to Roll20 and my waiting list for games is in the dozens of players. Then along comes an announcement that there'll be a new edition of D&D.
Only this time I'm not skeptical. Congratulations, WoTC.

I think that's a bit hypocritical, considering how often I've seen folks in the past be told (in their new thread) that the topic has already been discussed. That they should search or dig it up.
I wonder if the thread's up-beat title, or general complimentary subject matter, has anything to do with some people maybe feeling a bit of displeasure at it resurfacing? Food for thought....
