I initially was just going to post asking a about a specific feat I have in mind, but figured the whole thread may as well be about everyone's feat ideas.
DISCLAIMER:
1. I know that balancing a feat against a +2 ability score boost is not always simple, and in fact, many people believe it is not possible. This thread is not for debating those issues, please avoid discussing them as much as possible. Obvioulsy, as this is a thread about making appropriate feats, such discussion will not always be off topic, but it would really be a shame for such a debate to derail an otherwise creative and thoughtful thread.
2. I know some people are afraid of feat-bloat and such. I acknowledge those can be valid concerns, but once again, this is not the place to discuss that. This thread is intended for people who enjoy tweaking their game, and the features in their game, not the ones who want tosee fewer features, or curtail the addition of new ones.
So I thought of this feat as I was making a Fighter who is essentially meant to function as a martial Ranger-type, so survival skills, stealth, perception, etc... etc... I was also thinking of doing this without dipping into the Ranger class. The thing is, that after assigning skills from class and backgrounds, I can't really fill in all of the skills I want. First thoughts were to check downtime rules to see if I can train up a new skill, but unfortunately only tool proficiencies and languages can be acquired in this way. Second, I checked out feats. The only helpful feat is Skilled, which grants proficiency in three skills. Trouble is, I only really want one more skills, so I thought of this:
Natural Talent You pick up eassily on a new area of expertise due to your inborn ability.
So my question is this: is this feat too good? I worry that it might be when I compare to the Skilled feat. Thoughts?

Maybe add a third portion to it that gives you something similar to the jack of all trades ability from the bard for one skill?
So something like:
In this way, you essentially get 1.5 skills and get a stat bump, as opposed to just 3 skills, or a +2. It pretty much cuts the difference. |
