| #1blake_marloweAug 12, 2014 19:02:17 | does anyone know of one? i did a quick search and didn't find anything. a link would be ideal if one exists.
thanks in advance! |
| #2Thank_DogAug 12, 2014 19:14:09 | Nope, the entire issue is a black hole of mystery. |
| #3GrazelAug 12, 2014 19:25:04 | They've still not said anything about the start of the beta but it's likely going to be after GenCon, from beta to full release is yet to be seen. I think their focus is on GenCon right now since they'll have tables there with the (pre)beta of the tools available to use/test. |

| #6MarandahirAug 13, 2014 4:41:26 | I got an email back last month saying that I'm in and they'll let me know when the Beta opens. |
| #7melloredAug 13, 2014 4:56:42 | I expect it will be after all the books are relased. |
| #8TheLyonsAug 13, 2014 5:33:08 | This question gets asked on their Facebook almost every day. Amazingly, they answer it almost every time. They say that once it's announced, it'll be yelled from the mountain tops and there's no way we won't hear it. |

| #11Dane_McArdyAug 13, 2014 11:27:59 | After the last digital tool failure, don't expect them to talk much about this one, until they are actually able to put something in your hands.
There's just no way they are going to stick their necks out again like that. |

| #14GrazelAug 13, 2014 19:34:02 | They finally released the official name of the tools: D&D Dungeonscape. They've also had shots of characters made with the tools so they have something, just they aren't ready to start the beta yet and they have admitted to be in a "pre-con frenzy" getting ready for GenCon.
Remember this isn't WotC putting out the tool but a 3rd party startup and I suspect their first project. I applaud them for taking it slow and making sure they're ready for something before releasing anything. Considering some MMO's out there offer beta sign-up as early as a year before the beta begins I'd say that if beta starts by the end of August they're making great time. |
| #15BoldItalicAug 14, 2014 1:21:39 | The Morningstar twitter has been replaced by a Dungeonscape one, if you want to follow it. |

| #18rookrockAug 14, 2014 5:37:59 | I'm really hoping they go the same route as roll20 and others with this(and infact the same way they are going with the game itself). Free basic access, subscription paid advanced features. For example, you can use the 4 basic races and sub races and classes, but to make anything beyond that you need a subscription. Similarly, free access to DM stuff and monsters we already get for free, and again a paid subscription opens that up.
Just a thought, cause I'd like to use it and don't want to dump money into it until I know it is a good product(like last night I just subscribed to Roll20 after a few months of playing). |
| #19VeleriaAug 14, 2014 6:03:07 | I am still sceptical after 4e never delivered on what it promised at launch. After 5 years they took peoples money and never bothered to tell them they scrapped the projects. Instead they kept releasing teases of works in progress that never were released. |

| #22GrazelAug 14, 2014 11:26:54 | Yep.
Official title is Dungeonscape. They are running the tool at some tables at GenCon. They stated today on facebook that they aren't ready to start the beta for Android and Web (there is no iOS beta, but will be an iOS version) but as they put it "we're 75 steps closer to it than we were".
Keep in mind that Dugeonscape is one unified tool rather than WotC's suite of tools that never got fully developed, and got scrapped and redesigned at least once. It's more than just a character creator but will have the ability to run local (at table) or remote (online) games and likely a mix of the two (so a player can be remote and still take part). It's also supposed to have all the adventures available through some mechanism.

| #23silentdanteAug 14, 2014 13:27:09 | i asked on twitter if the app will be like roll20 and other ways to play, and they said no. it's a tool to helo you play, but it will not helo you run the game over the internet like roll20 does. it sounds more like a collection of digital tools like character sheet, some rules bits and other sumplimental stuff instead of having a chat function or being able to show grids and the like. i also don't think Sungeonscape has a die roller app or a way to "connect" multiple people in one app per say. this is all guesswork though and i hope i am wrong on some accounts. i just asked on twitter if dungeonscape has a die rller function so we will see.
i would suspect you would still have to google hangout or something with roll20 app to see grids, or without roll20 app and play theater of the mind using dungeonscape if it has the die roller and is able to be joinable by other players.
EDIT: wow quick answer: @silentdante · 2m @DungeonScape hey guys, hope gen con is going well for you, does dungeonscape incorporate a die roller as part of it? @DungeonScape - @silentdante it sure does!
i followed it up with a question on wether others can join your app to see those dice rolls online, or is it just an in person thing.

| #27Sword_of_SpiritAug 14, 2014 13:56:37 | Yeah, I don't need a new VTT, but I would really like the ability to send die rolls--because 5e has a lot of wonky features that mess with die rolls (like Great Weapon fighting style) and it's not something that can be assumed to be easily supported in any particular VTT.

| #28Dane_McArdyAug 14, 2014 14:06:43 | All I'm really looking for are the following.
A Character Generator, that helps players with all the math for their level, so they can print out a ready to go character sheet. It speeds things up if players don't have to do the math.
A way to make your Dungeons using the Dungeon Tile art. I can say which sets I have, and use just those. Or whatever the DM needs.
A monster builder, where I can customize monsters, and then print out their stat blocks.
An encounter builder, which helps me make notes about encounters.
More is great of course, would not be opposed to more. But lets starts off with tools that help speed up the game. |
| #29rookrockAug 14, 2014 14:45:31 | Asked Dungeonscape about fee structure/subscription/f2p with in app purchases. Here is their response:
@dwarfcleric We haven't announced anything officially yet but I can tell you there will an option for everyone ![]() |
| #30silentdanteAug 14, 2014 15:03:35 | for me, i had hoped it owuld replace roll20 or other such tools as an all out goto for playing online. i go to my local store for encounters, but because of life, friends live all over now, but since 5e wehave started playing online.
they did answer me tweet and said that you can all join a lobby of sorts and share the dice rolls. so it seems just from wha they have said, that you could do everything roll20 and the like can do except move things about a tilemap. i guess thats dissapointing, but they never promised that so i cant hold it against them, and am just ahppy for all we do get. my hope is as it improves they go full into just usng Dungeonscape to run adventures on PC, because that type of play seems to be gaining popularity as well as local game stores. |
