Is there any chance there will be a new rule set for d20 MODERN, that would coincide with D&D: Next?

First we need a playtesting for firearms and psionic powers. And the next step would be superhereoes (today lots of characters are open licence) and future high-tech.

The "modern" settins need a special system of XP reward, because a PC from pulp age or "Call of duty: Advanced Warfare" with the same stats are more or less powerful. A simple car could be used to run over a monster, and a dragon or a giant could be killed only with a missile launcher. What if any player wish change monsters from a game to another? From example the aliens from d20 Future to D&D, or from D&D to Gamma World..

It isn´t a never ever but later, it is still too soon.

If not, Dias Ex Machina will probably write one.  I know for a fact there'll be an Amethyst adaptation for 5th, which could probably be used as a modern/future sourcebook.

Doubtful. Modern was a fun line, but it was spawned out of the d20 boom of the market. These days I think WOTC is more focus on sustaining and regrowing the brand from the fall off post early 2000s.

The d20 Modern isn´t only a D&D with cars and machine guns. It is also too to create a d20 version of future rpg adaptations..(Hasbro toys, movies or videogames). Let´s imagine a marvel superheroes d20, or a G.I.Joe d20 rpg.

D20 Modern settin is a challenge because the same PC with the right weapons can be really more powerful, For example the first movie of aliens, where only a xenomorphe killed almost all the crew of Nostromo, but in the second movie the lieutenant Ellen Ripley with a power loader (= powered exoesqueleton) could face the same alien queen. A simple adventure about a psico-killer where PCs are civilians without firearms is totally different to a war campaing like the videogame Homefront or another FPS where the PC are soldiers with expensive toys.

And the balance of power. In a d20 Past adventure a martial artist can be very dangerous but in a d20 Future module the hand-to-hand fight skills aren´t so useful.

My suggestion is the XPs by enemies killed by gunfire or shootings should use a different system than killed by hand-to-hand combat, and the XP reward should be lower if PCs use special help, for example a future exosuit or powered exoesqueleton.

I would be really excited to see a d20 Modern and d20 SciFi using the new 5the Ed rules. It won't happen straightaway of course, but I hope it does come. After these are out I would be excited to see a detailed Mass Effect inspired type setting published, I can dream of it at least .

Gamma World. Do that, and Modern would be a cakewalk to set up.

(I might be biased)

Question:

Do you envision a class-based d20 modern? Or an equipment-based d20 modern?

Because, sure, a surface to air missile might kill a dragon. But it takes a network of ppl to fire it. A machine gun is friggin deadly, yeah.

So would you want a game where advancement happens with additional equipment or with improved class features?

On a side note, they should bring in map and rules for a wrestling ring.

I think with the Basic PDF and the original d20 Modern rules you can whip up a conversions quite easily, 5th Ed is marvellously conversion friendly.

We need a module about battleships and sieges to stronholds. If PCs can use a giant crossbow or a bazooka to detroy a enemy war chariot o a kaiju monster.. it would too easy to get the same amount of XPs.

D&D is a game where players are used to hand-to-hand combat, but d20 Modern is too diferent, because the fight can be with firearms or from vehicles or ships. The XP reward should be different.

Picture from movie "Black Rain" where a group of Japanese motobikers....

has anybody seen the bike catfight from movie "Torque"?

Even a "newbie" bike rider with a sword would be a serious menace for a martial artist.
