So looking through the Basic pdf, and oh dear, Damage on a Miss is now gone from the Fighter's Great Weapon Fighting style.

But DoaM isn't gone from the game - the goddamn WIZARD has it!  Potent Cantrip is DoaM!  For the WIZARD!

Dear Lord, it's official - Next is Caster Edition.  Get ready to be useless caddys again, Fighter Fans.

Cute graphic.

But no.  As has already been pointed out, Potent Cantrip does literally nothing (there are no wizard cantrips with saves), and fighters still out-damage wizards.

Who says DoaM is entirely gone?

When reading the pdf, you must remember one thing:

Math!!!

Of course I've got math. Here:

http://community.wizards.com/forum/product-and-general-dd-discussions/threads/4107171

The comparison is between Evokers and Archers as that is the most balanced comparison (ie both attack at range). The fighter has a lot more HP (10 per level vs 6 per level), but the fighter suffers disadvantage when next to enemies

while the wizard does not.

The wizard also does more single target damage while simultaneously doing a whole lot of AoE damage. The fighter only beats the wizard at level 20 when he gets his 4th attack. From level 7-19 the wizard wins handily. Around level 3-6 their damage is fairly close. Level 1-2 the fighter is better.

This comparison son ignoresthe fact that the wizard could simply cast sleep at low levels to end encounters without dealing a single point of damage.

How does this swing the balance between two handed swrods and great axes?  The new great weapon fighter benefit is a roll of a 1 or a 2 for damage gets re-rolled.  You oly have a 1 in 36 chance of getting that reroll with the sword, but you have a 2 in 12 chance of getting that re-reoll with axe.  Yeah you have a 2 in 12 chance of getting that result agian but still my guess is that might  correct the .5 damage thing people had an issue with, though it might over correct.  I didn;t really see the issue as it was just .5 damage but others did.
