Did I Miss the 5E Forgotten Realms Map? (contains spoilers)

I've looked all over for this.

I was finally able to get out and get Rise of Tiamat, and seeing how it takes place in other areas other than the Sword Coast .... where can I find the 5th Edition version of a map of Faerun? The only map I currently see, is of the Sword Coast which is in Hoard of the Dragon Queen.

One of the encounters in RoT is a succubi that is seducing people and having them kill people and then has the seduced murderer commit suicide. It says that to find her, you have to go to a certain ward of Waterdeep ..... but there isn't a map of Waterdeep anywhere? Same with with going to Thay. Where is Thay?

The last map I have for the Realms are the 4 quadrant maps that were in Dragon magazine during 3rd Edition. That's fine I suppose, but what about a DM who is just starting out that doesn't own a gray Forgotten Realms box set, the '93 version of the 2nd Edition set, or the 3rd Edition Campaign book? Same thing with the Waterdeep map. Not everyone has a Waterdeep map that they can reference, and the City of Splendors set is now quite expensive, (so is the Waterdeep Trail Map.)

Any idea of where there is an updated Forgotten Realms map for the new edition? (probably isn't one .... sigh)

I use the 3.0 poster map that came with the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. A quick google search for "forgotten realms" in images brings it up immediately.

Here is the map of Faerun pre-4E (from the 3.0 FRCS).

And here is the 4E map of Faerun. With few exceptions, the maps are largely identical.

I think part of the reason why there is no "official" 5th Edition Faerun world map yet is because WOTC is still trying to figure out just what the heck happened between 4th edition era and 5th edition.  They are still probably still arguing among themselves trying to make sense of the mess that the Sundering and Spellplague did, and how to best present it in 5th edition without sounding like ridiculous corny sci-fi fantasy.

My understanding is that the Sundering occured during the (later) years of the 4th Edition.... and that by 5th Edition, the Sundering had already run its course.  If you guys read the small little date (year) clues with the 5th edition "Playtest" adventures, like the ones that were made for D&D Next and the Adventurers League, there were dates given that indicated the years about 1480s or so.

I'm talking about official WOTC published "DnD NEXT" adventures like:  Dreams of the Red Wizard Dead in Thay, Scourge of the Sword Coast, and Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle.

I can only deduce that 5th Edition era starts not very long after the end of the 4th Edition "Sundering era".  Which means.... 5th Edition takes place maybe a mere 10-15 years after 4th Edition.  Anyone else care to add any other clues from recent NEXT sources?

I'd rather much of the world to be left up to the players to decide what happened where. Maybe just some kind of gazeteer that presents stuff that was already detailed in the novels and published adventures in a more convenient way.

If WOTC was on top of their game, then posters like the OP wouldn't have to ask questions like this.

They would have updated the Realms already...

The gods forbid you use your imagination and make something up! Does every inch of the "forgotten" realms have to be mapped? Every intrigue spelled out? I couldn't DM in the Realms because I would have players correcting me at every turn...

I hope for a Gazetteer style book release of the Realms. Give specifics but leave plenty open for DMs to create their own space. I like the idea of a fantasy melting pot but I need to add my own spices in order to be interested.

Strider13x:

I don't think anyone above was suggesting they want everything spelled out for them.

Every inch of the Fr setting isn't mapped our or every intrigue detailed.  That's clearly hyperbole on your part.

The original poster for instance, wanted additional infor to help him run the adventure path because stuff was missing from the hardback's coverage.

That's a very reasonable request.

Yes, oh big footed one, hyperbola extraordinaire!

I really dont use the realms because it has too much history. I would find it confining to have a world so mapped out ( and not just maps, but organizations, religions, etc...). I do respect others desires to set a campaign in a known setting, I just can't help but mock the fact it is called a forgetten anything! No stone is left unturned in the forgotten realms!! That is why I like the idea of a gazetteer, pushing forward certain conventions of the realms while leaving open spaces for individuals like me to play in. Some folks like me found it unusable which is why I hope the 5e approach is different. I would like new players to feel comfortable in my game because they recognize harpers and elminster, but I dont want players losing immersion because I didn't include some minutiae from book 12 of the dritzz series.

So to the OP, use what you know. Don't sweat the details, let your heroes be just that, heroes of their realms! Not anyone else's.

I find it easier to build my own world than to have to read all the FR stuff. Having mever read any FR stuff myself, all those places you mentioned... never heard of any of them! But folks like you have done your homework and all current adventures are firmly placed in FR. My point is DMs are in short supply but lots of folks want to be players, and because so much more has been published folks like the OP feel a pressure to supply players with the realms experience. My out for LMoP is simple, since I don't want to further expand that campaign into the realms I am going to have the party shift dimensions! Once they leave Wave Echo Cave they will find themselves in the mists of Barovia!! Hahaha!! After the fall of Strahd who knows what's next. Spelljammer, anyone?

I9 Ravenloft IS the only one! (the only reference I have anyway)

I will be using my interpretation of Spelljammer based on the Dragon magazine article by Pazio. Sorry, no space hampsters...

Glad to see my hyperbole matched!! +1

Reius-

That's where I'm at now. Some players were asking questions that I handwaved. They shrugged and we moved on. I feel they would have prefered I knew more about the FR because I mentioned Neverwinter (LMoP)

As far as no space hampsters you may have a point. I shall include them!

John-

Players can have high expectations when you site specific locals or characters. I am not inclined to read up on all the realms. I prefer the world to contain mystery. What lies beyond the mountains of the east? Only one way to find out!

The group I game with knows little of Ravenloft and nothing of spelljammer. And spelljammer is a term I use loosely in this context. FR on the other hand is huge as far as lore is concerned.

enough thread highjacking. Maybe I will use the 5e Realms when it comes out. There is enough interest and im looking to expand my group. Here's to finding a 5e FR map, Guest1790093391!
