DM Screen

What do you guys think of the DM Screen?

After reading/watching a few reviews it doesn't look very functional.   It certainly looks great, but I could see myself replacing most of the panels with more important tables and charts.   For example, actions and standard equipment lists are non-existant.

I like it overall, but there is some info I would swap out if I was designing it.

I just printed the other info I wanted to a piece of paper that I keep behind the DM screen when playing.

It has everything that I need to reference on it, but doesn't waste much space with details so common that I have already memorized them. I like it.

It could have more tables, yes, but I prefer it as is because it aids me in remembering the mantra of "rulings, not rules." which helps me keep my sessions moving forward - if it isn't on the screen and the players and I don't remember the rule, I make a ruling and we play on, and look up any such things later rather than spending time during the session referrencing the books, and there not being a whole lot on the screen is just that much faster because I can actually read the text without leaning forward.

I really like it. Ruling on mechanocs don't typically hold up 5e, though having the conditions for reference is excellent. But having a couple random table to fill in the gaps in narrative should really help me keep the pace of the game up.

I think it is interesting that Gale Force 9 made a DM screen for Tyranny of Dragons . It may be odd to have a screen still around after runing the adventures, but it seems nice to have NPC information and some visual aids where you don't have to keep flipping pages in your book.

While I think that it could have included a couple more things (like the tracking table from the DMG, and some other odds and ins), it has most of what I'd want as a DM (standard equipment isn't something I'd want or expect on a DM screeen—that's more of general handout material).

What hasn't been mentioned, though, is that this is the sturdiest DM/GM screen that I've ever seen. When I told my friend that I had it, I said that if they had added a layer of kevlar it would have been bullet proof. This thing is pretty solid and of excellent quality, and was well worth the money I spent.

There are a couple of tables from the DMG that I would've liked to have on it, but otherwise I love it. I've already made good use of the Something Happens! table.

I really like the DM screen, but it is missing one of the tables that I REALLY wish it had: the table that tells you what dice to roll to find out how many targets you hits with AoE effects when using TotM. Oh well. I will just have to print that one myself.

Actually, instead of the visibilty table I would have liked the XP budget table for building encounters.

As I mentioned in this other recent thread about the DM screen:

I like it. It could be better as others have mentioned but overall worth the money.

It definitely saves time with conditions because we were constantly looking those up. I've also used the random NPC name generator, tavern generator, encounter distance, and travel speed tables a few times.

I don't find I like what it has on it to actually buy it... so I didn't.
